i am just discovering Paganism..qwik qstn 4 you please? do you beleive there is a difference between the Underworld & Hell? #2 Do Pagans in general believe in an Underworld or a hell?
@Gingerinbetween All Pagans will believe in different things about this. But the underworld is not hell. Most pagans do not believe in hell as that is an Abrahamic belief. The Underworld is a place of peace and death, in preparation for rebirth - it is not a firey pit of demons and so very positive Gods live there too.
my friend is helping me with this path...she was with me for my dedication ceremony..and she was with me..she has been a wiccan following hakate for 3 years...but she says she only did 4 things..did the dedication ritual, made an alter, studies/reads everything about hakate and wicca, and then she has a book of shadows she said she made and never token out after that....my question is...is my friend really following this path, or should i find someone else?
maybe Hekate is more then just a Maiden, Mother, Crone because shes the Goddess of magic and magic has many different aspects as well as power over all forms of nature
She's bifurcated because the same darkness that brings fear & dread can also bring life & solace.I know her as the life-affirming aspect of the darkness.Darkness can be a protective cloak. It can bring the peace of deep slumber. It can be the crucible of dreams. Our most solemn prayers are breathed into night’s dark veils. Our most intimate hours are those in night’s enfolding cloister. It is just as dark in the womb as it is in the tomb. That’s why she can be loved, desired, & feared all at once.
Well, now I am sad I have to wait til August to focus on Hecate (at least for this challenge). The new camera is on hold for now, but I am still going ahead with the challenge. This video is wonderful, great information and well thought out discussion. I do see Hecate as Dark Maiden. I chose Nuada of the Silver Arm and Sedna for January. It was an intense month. Both have sad, beautiful and powerful stories.I am taking notes. Hopefully I will be able to share eventually.
From what I know of Hecate, she is the maiden, mother, and crone, and she appears as all three aspects. What most people do not know is that She takes on all three aspects within the course of a day; in the morning hours she takes on the form of the Maiden, who is blonde; in the afternoon hours she takes on the form of the Mother, who is a brunette; and in the midnight hours she takes on the aspect of the Crone, whose hair is silvery gray. However, this is how She is explained to me. Great video
She is very positive and quite a mother too...yes, She has the 3 aspects: the Maiden, the Mother (that's this positivity and love and protection you feel too), and the Crone (with all this wisdom).
You described Her exactly as I experience Her!!! A beacon of light, a goddess of light (well in fact of everything light and darkness), you experience this appearent "contradictions", because She really integrates the 3 aspects. She is the Queen of Witchcraft and Magic, Divination. I must congratulate you for this video!!!
I'm glad you really connected with her ^^ I just did my rtual to Pan earlier today and I connected with him a lot. Bit choppy at the end but I got the point ^^
How beautiful. Since Hekate is my Matron Goddess I love to see others learn about her, I love that you found her ancient pre-Greecian roots and experienced her as more than a dried out old Crone. Blessings on your path to knowledge.
thanks for sharing your experiences, I don' know much about hekate at all, and this video and edca me to some extent ie basic info, so thanks for that :) Being on a hellenic path it didn't occur to me that Hekate was originally a greek goddess. So you have opened m eyes to her now :) Hail the Olympians and Blessed be )O(
Hecate is a remarkable goddess. I learned so much more in this video. I actually did the Her Sacred Fire rite and the performed the Withes Armour afterwords. Truly a powerful moment.
Due to her chthonic nature of withdrawing from the world and her role as watcher over the crossroads, I find similarities between Hecate and The Hermit card who holds the lantern and guides you introspectively.
LOVED this video. I am so happy to find someone who understands Hecate as I do. A lot of people talk about her with fear and as you say she isn't about that, she is about light.
I completely connected with this video and your experiences with her are very much like my own. Not to mention the logical thinking part. I often describe myself as a sceptical psychic as most mediums I know say everything is a spirit were I always look for the reasonable explanation first. )O(
Although I have connected with the Goddess aspects since I have been on my path, I have had problems connecting with one in particular. I used to connect with Artemis, but it did not feel completely right. Lately, I think Hekate has been calling to me. I keep seeing Her pictures, hearing about her (like this vid!) and my brother has mentioned Her many times. As some of the other commenters have noted, I fear Her a bit, but I am starting to feel more comfortable with asking Her into my life.
I'm mostly a Sea Witch, but I've honored and worshiped Hecate for many years. She scared the hell out of me at first, but as I grew to understand her she became more involved life.
I was happy to hear about your positive experiences with Hekate! I have been intimidated by her in the past, too- it was reassuring to hear about positive her energy can be!
Great video. Hecate has been pulling me toward her very much so over the past 5 months so I have been working very closely with her lately. Sometimes I see her as a maiden, but this past dark moon, she was very much the crone to me. Hecate is a very interesting Goddess to me in that I never know exactly how she will appear until she shows herself to me.
The 27th of each month is her day, I don't remember where I got that day, maybe 3 X 9 = 27. She is one of my favorite Goddesses. Have a crush on Medea too. On your next book report, read Ovid's "Metamorphosis", the chapter "Jason and the Argonauts". Silver RavenWolf's Solitary Witchcraft has a section on Medea, the HPS of Hecate, a moonlight ritual/spell invoking Hecate with a lot of emotion, gives me a rush. Video of "Jason and the Argonauts" preview is on IMDB BB )O(
I see her has a dark maiden goddess too :) Hekate sounds AMAZING!! I cant wait to look into her next year and experience her, thank you so much for sharing this :) <3

I've been feeling Hekate lately. This gives me a little starting point of study. She's the first Deity outside the Egyptian pantheon I've felt.

When she is seen as a crone it is usually to punish as far as I know, as young it is to bless.
