  • Awesome video! I like book challenges and find them very motivating to be working towards a particular goal. It really kicks me and makes me want to read more. It's always great ticking off the books as you go along! :L

  • I have that same sweater xD

Also, I totally agree with you.

  • 1:18 - 1:25 I recorded that with my iphone and sent it to everyone in my contacts.

  • @MaxieMagyx You are so gorgeous! I love all of your videos<3

  • I joined this book challenge more details here>>> goodreads(dot)com/group/show/58472.JUST_FOR_FUN_Reading_Challenge_2012

  • I totally agree lol :)) I'm glad you got the fault in our stars high five! and oh the moment I saw the will grayson will grayson book I was like MaxieMagyx was talking about this one way back I also immediately purchased that one XD

  • This is so random, but you're so pretty! You look like Zooey Deschanel and sound like Jayma Mays :) Oh, and what camera you use?

  • where did you buy that sweater?? so cute! I really like all your videos and book recommendations! Please continue with your thing! I will be one of your faithful followers.. ;)

  • @JennyAnnaLinnea Haha, thank you :) H&M! lol.

  • Well, I did the 100 book challenge last year, but I did it in four days on my holiday week so that was pretty insane. And they weren't even all short books, either. Most were 300 pages + O___O that's why thudded year I'm aiming to read 1000 books.. Should be fun :B I'm still age to enjoy a story even with the sort of time constructions you've mentioned, so I'm good to go any way you set me up :DD

  • I'm doing a Big Book challenge this year for books 400 pages or more (in addition to other books). I'm only doing 4 with two of them being over 1000 pages that I've had on my shelf for over five years. Numbered book challenges do burn you out after awhile.

  • Yes I am doing a book challenge. I am doing a numbered challenge. I am hoping to read 25 books. I am a slow reader and last year I read 23 and this year I want to read 25 and I am starting college. I think I can do it! =D

  • I can so totally relate to what you're saying, I'm constantly stopping myself to see how far along I've come. I have challenged myself to read more this year, but I haven't set a specific number. I want to just get back my love of reading not compete for how many books I can devour in a certain amount of time ;-)

  • I completely agree with everything you said! I also did my first book challenge last year, and I never want to do one ever again. =P

I went for 30 books, and by the end of december I only had about 100 pages left to read to complete the challenge, but I guess I was burned out or something like that, because I just didn't care anymore, so I failed it haha.

It was nice to try it out, but it can suck the fun out of it...

  • I read 24 books last year. This year I am aiming to reading 30 books. :)

  • @MakeupChameleon 30 good books we hope :)

  • I can so relate to what you said, that's why I decided not to challenge myself for 100 books. 3 days per book is just not realistic, sometimes I just need more time. So I'm trying to read 70 instead and more from German authors (I'm German and only read English books). Also I fell in love with stampunk last year and want to dig deeper into that genre! BTW I agree TFIOS is amazing!

  • I'd say start small, 50 or so books, but go into it with the assumption that you are going to fail, that way anything you achieve will be an accomplishment. If you exceed the goal add a bit more, and keep the mindset of failure so that whatever you accomplish is a success. Work for me when I enter NaNoWriMo (as someone who's written a novel manuscript I knew it was doomed to fail, but I did it for you, since I knew you were doing it).

  • @Samthescienceman "keep the mindset of failure so that whatever you accomplish is a success" x'D... LOL. I can't decide whether that's an awful thing to say, or whether it's 100% pure genius. I usually go into things thinking nothing. My mind is an absolute void most of the time. That also works.

  • I'm doing a 50 book challenge and the Goodreads Big Book Challenge. This is my first year doing any book challenges so I'm excited to see how well I can do. Hopefully they won't ruin my life too... Haha! xD

  • 365 book challenge??? I'd like to see what books she read...

  • im doing the 100 book challenege ive read 9 book already :D

  • bye see u next time

  • I was attempting the 100 but once classes started I got behind and all I could think was..... "omg I have to read faster!"...so I lowered my expectations and now I'm only attempting 75...

P.S. totally met John and Hank Green last Friday when I got my #tfios copy :D best autographed copy ever!

  • I must agree with you in some ways. I sometimes page count. NO WAIT I always do it, and its annoying, I do like challenging myself though. But I am starting to relax a little because it was getting the point I was freaking out like in the first week of January O_o

  • Yeah, I am doing quite a bit... a kill the TBR pile, DAC, support your library, out-do yourself, ya-book, and the goodreads one...where I chose 125. I do agree that I also see what page I am quite often...but I make sure that I enjoy the book too...most of the time... :-)

  • @MaxieMagyx I luv you too K-dawg..! lol

  • I agree! I'm doing a Debut Author Book challenge this year, oh and I saw on goodreads someone completing their 1,500 book challenge last year! That is insane! I bet that person wasn't human, more like robotic.

  • I'm doing an 80 book challenge and whenever goodreads tells me I'm one book behind, I start panicking >_< and you're right, it does feel kinda like a chore because I haven't felt like reading much...

  • I agree completely. It becomes more of a chore than anything. I tried to do it last year, but I've decided to never do it again. I'd rather just enjoy the book and pay attention to the story rather than the page number.

  • I set one but i dont normally finish it :P I read books slooowwww

  • Nice video K-Dawg..

  • @ocean123ert I love you.

  • would be nice to read 50 books this year or more... I'm a slow reader so I set my challenge to 50 :D... people who read faster are supposed to comprehend more content? i read that somewhere, or does it depend on the content.. hmm

  • I find the same thing when people recommend me books and then lend it to me. I feel like I have to read it quickly whether I like it or not :(

  • I'm doing a 75 book challenge on any book of my choosing. I feel like I could read more but I have two daughters, under the age of 5 and a husband. I'm a little to stressed, most of the time, to bother adding more books.

  • I'm doing a 100 book challenge. Off to a good start already :)

  • Yes Im doing a 50 book challenge just cause I know I can do it. :-)

  • Hey,girl!

My love for books turned me into a total freak, and yeah,i'm actually working with books right now. But,anyway...

I posted on my blog a "classic" Challenge. Only classic books allowed.

And i'm having so much fun. "A Tale of two cities" by Charles Dickens and "The Catcher in the Rye" by J.D Saliger are my first two classics of the year.

    Xoxo,

    @Marina_MVL

  • I don't do book challenges, I just count how many books I read in one year (:

  • Your eyes look exceptionally beautiful Kaisa! I am screwing all book challenges this year and I'm going to read whatever I feel like reading whenever I feel like reading it! I have gotten just like you lately, I'm counting the pages until I'm done a book and that is just not right!

  • I'm doing the 50 books challenge. It's a challenge because I usually don't read that much but it's an achievable one since I actually really like to read but usually get distracted with other stuff.

  • At the moment I have like 10 books I bought but haven't read yet, some are over a year old. I was really excited about them at the time but the more I keep telling myself "I need to read these books instead of keep getting new ones" the less I actually want to read them. :( It's actually a known phenomenon called the overjustification effect.

  • I completed a 300 book challenge. Though i had a grade 8 teacher who thought homework was unreasonable. It was a good year. I don't intend to do it again in numbers because when given bragging rights i tend to abuse them.

  • oo and a random add moment I love your nail polish color!!XD

  • I have a phase where I read a $#!T-TON of books, and then just stop for a period of time.

  • This is my 1st year of saying that I will read 65 books this year...I looked at the % thing..it says that I am 2 books behind 4% behind...its is so upsetting..LOL ahhhh read faster!! My next challenge which isn't a challenge "I will watch Miss K everyday" Yes I love your vlogs. Totally do some unscripted!! YOU ROCK!!

  • I wish I wouldn't do a book challenge. Cause I always slack-off and only read 25 books. And it's always a disappointment. xD Maybe this year I'll just read for fun.

  • @dmfriend25 Yes please do :DD I will definitely be doing that :)

  • Last year I wanted to read 50 books.....I think I read like 22. This year I'm doing it again and I've read 10 already. For me it's more of a goal/motivation than a challenge though. I don't particularly care if I read 50 but I want to because I want to read a lot more. I never force myself to finish a book or rush through it. If I want to take a month to read a book, I will.

  • Yeah I'm doing a 75 book challenge this year, because last year was pure crazyness! In December I was ... I was... SO pissed about books in general! And I just wanted it to STOP. But with the 75 book challenge I've stopped counting pages and stuff. I guess that's the amount that I'd read anyway so... Probably it's useless to make such a challenge then, but whatever! ^^

  • I completely agree with you. I did 100 books challenge last year and I was rushing through books instead of enjoying them. I like reading classics but last year I dint because they would take too long than other books. Instead of being a pleasure it became work at some point, which sucks. Even though I have a goal this year in my goodreads I m really not bothering about it. Will try to read and enjoy like I used to.

  • I'll never be able to do a numbered book challenge. I don't like the though of having to read something. However I do think your idea of doing a sci fi challenge is a good one. Seeing you do sci fi book reviews would be cool.

  • If you read one book a year, that would be more than enough if it was a good book. There aren't many good books. Goods books make you think your whole life long, they're worth reading again. In a good book, the same sentences can take on new meaning years later. Reading 50 books a year doesn't guaruntee 50 good reads. You don't rush good books either. Good books are like fine whiskeys; you savour them. 50 books sounds superfical.

And, your hair looks great. What shampoo/conditioners do you use?

  • @TheLucHurley LOL! Nice finish there :P I don't really know. Nothing special. Actually, I don't really use shampoo that much. And when I tell people that they're like: WHUTTTT???? But it's true. I use it maybe once every two weeks, and then I use conditioner every day.... hrm. So yeah, now you know :D

  • Nope no book challenge for me.

  • @yhctower Geewwdd.

  • OMG I completely agree with you. I've been doing book challenges for about 3 years now....and I'm doing 50 books this year because. Of. SCHOOL. BUUUUT I really do hate them...yet I feel obliged to do them because if I didn't I would be extremely lazy....

    -Rae

  • @winkyblinky1 LOL! No, don't feel that way!! You can do this challenge instead: "constantly be in the process of reading SOMETHING." That way, you're always reading, but you don't have any pressure about what or how fast 8'D

  • Im doing a 50 book challenge, its the first time Ive done one and at the moment its going well but it's still early days. Ive combined it with an alaphabet challenge though so I need to try and read one book for each letter of the alaphabet which may be easier said than done with letters like X, Y and Z. Havent a clue about Q either

  • @chocolatequeen20000 Dude! I can't even figure out how to use those letters in wordfeud. Good luck! OoO

  • I went way overboard with my challenges this year. I cant even count them, thats how many they are! But I love them and couldnt decide which one to chose so I try to do all of them! And my Numbered Challenges is 52 Books. That means 1 a week, that seems doable. Also I just finished reading TFiOS, it was awesome! but without j-scribble :(

  • @KT256 Awwww =OOOO Well! We can all agree that it's the STORY that matters :)

  • @MaxieMagyx True but it was still a little bit of a disappointment... no j-scribble = no chance for a hanklerfish or a yeti. But might reread it as I didn't get some of the words and it took me nearly a week to finish it because I haven't had a lot of time to read.

  • I am going to try to read 100 books! But if it doesn't work out,I will be ok!!

  • @notsotinydancer13 So will the world :D

  • @4everSasuSaku Det låter bra ändå! :D Kör hårt!

  • woah, your eyes are fucking beautiful man.

  • @coollikebeans thanks man 8'D

  • How does the Debut author challenge work?

  • @JoceyLovee Well, it's basically that... you try and read as many debut books as possible. I think when people say "debut author challenge", they're mostly talking about The Books Siren's challenge. So go to her blog. :) If you're interested.

  • @MaxieMagyx i think its the story siren :) ur soooo pretty

  • @gossip142 lol, you're totally right, and the fact that you finished that comment with a compliment is sweet x'D kinda like: "aww, you're dumb, but here's a cookie" Thanks for the correction! It's the story siren people!!!

  • I think I might try and read 150 books :D

  • @zarafinahensfeld Lol, Good luck to you x'D I hope it doesn't screw up the fun factor of it all!

  • Reading books should not be a challenge, that's like say if a Gamer was challenged to play 50 games, like gaming, reading should just be done for fun and education. Good Video.

  • @sfighter991 Yeah. I can't quite imagine what it would be like forcing my way through a game o,o

  • Every time I try to do a book challenge, I fail miserably. OK, I can do the fifty book challenge, but that's pretty much it.

Nope, not doing any challenges. Too stressful with new place to live, new job, and all that jazz.

  • I've challenged myself to read more books than I did last year. I'll be more than happy if it's just one more. Last year I was doing lots of genre book challenges and I couldn't keep up with them. I still haven't counted how many dystopian novels I have read *headdesk* I don't mind numbered book challenges, because I know how fast I can read. I'd never challenge myself to read 150 or 200 or more though, that's just crazy XD

  • 1:50 lol

  • Yeah! Do a Historical book challenge! Phillipa Gregory is amazing! :)

So despite your counting pages in TFIOS...will you be reviewing it??

Can't wait to hear your thoughts! :)

  • @beckyaa100 OOOFFF COUUURSEEE :DDDDD

  • Agree 100%. I don't like book challenges. The only one I did last year was the Goodreads challenge, and I completed it waaay before the year was over and had to keep increasing my numbers. But that was because I read a lot of graphic novels last year. This year, I'm doing the Goodreads challenge again but I'm already stressing out whenever I see my status and it says "You're 1% behind". And it's only January. -.- Oh, and I'm also doing the Debut Author Challenge .

  • @xoannaox89 Debut author challenges are really good, me thinks! Supports the profession!! :)

  • I'm doing a numbered book challenge, but not extreme. More like 30 books by the end of the year, but hopefully i can read more books that I normally don't read. I want to read more contemporary and less paranormal and more stand alone books than series :)

  • @iloverats1243 Yes! That's a good challenge I think :) I want to get out of the paranormal genre, m'self (after reading some books that I've put on hold, like.. Silence and Clockwork Prince.) and read some more... sci fi and contemporary and... maybe historical. (MAYBE. I'm not so big on that genre)

  • I agree with you! I had thought about challenging myself too, but I just know that I would fail and reading would become an annoying thing in general.

  • @missburn Well, challenging yourself is good, but just don't... burn yourself out :)... missburn. Hehe.

  • @MaxieMagyx Haha :D No exactly. I'm not ever gonna do it, because of the reason you said too - Reading to me is fun, an amazing hobby. I read when I feel like it.

  • Yes I am doing the numbered book challenge but I'm only doing 60 books :)

  • @anglophilicbooklover :) Good luck!!

  • ive been wondering why almost every book I have read since last year was not enjoyable. I am serious (except for Anna and the French Kiss) I havent enjoyed ONE book. I sometimes just wanted to get through the book and I half skimmed half read...HORRIBLE! I think it might have been cause of the numbered challenge... I am just going to read what the heck I want.

  • @iheartbooks22 Dude, that is the best thing I've heard all day! <3 AWESOME!

  • I'm just trying to read as many books as I can because that way I dont have a number to reach :)

  • @AmzlyTee GREAT plan.

  • I love the ending to this video. Period.

And I agree with you. I don't do book challenges either because sometimes it can take me a really really long time to finish a book and if I have a book challenge on my mind that tells me I HAVE TO FINISH SOON then the book will be kinda ruined for me.

  • @ParaPuk Some books I actually found myself skimming. That's when you know you've taken it too far!! Yey for enjoying ourselves!! :)

  • I agree :) I was stressed out last year when I didn't have a lot of time to finish my challenge, and it sort of took the joy out of reading, a little bit. So this year I'm only doing a 35-books challenge. And that's nice. Don't have to stress at all. Will probably read more that that, but it's just nice to know that I don't have to stress - but I still have a goal.

Can't wait to read tfios myself. Happy reading!

  • @angellmarlene Yeah! That's the attitude I love :)

  • You basically spoke my mind completely, dear. <3

  • @LeanneJaseyRae That's cuz your mind is awesome. <3

  • I'm doing the 50 books challenge. It seems reasonable to me, provided I don't find a series as long as The Song of Ice and Fire again >_> Otherwise life will become failtacular!

  • @TheDreamingEva x'D I'm assuming you mean those were long-ass books? Yeah, I started off my challenge by reading The Wheel of Time. Man... stress levels were high.

  • @MaxieMagyx That is exactly what I mean! Starting with The Wheel of Time must have being crazy hard. Speaking of which I must read them sometime, they are on mah list!

  • I agree. I've got in goodread like a week ago and now i'm obsessed with the percentage i need to take that thing outta my head like NOW haha. I usually don't have time for reading cuz school consumes my life o.o last year i read like 2 books but i'm proud to say that i loved them and i wasn't about how many just about having a great time. This year i'm gonna try to make time to read more because it's something i love.

  • @LauraxEliz Isn't school bleh that way? I have this friend who loves reading, but she's afraid of picking up a book for pleasure now, cuz it'll consume to much of her studying time. IT'S SO SAD!

  • @MaxieMagyx now that u put it like that, well... it is. everyones deserves a fun time as well. but sometimes school gets really crazy it's all about making time i guess.

  • I decided to read 60 books this year. I'm a pretty fast reader so I'm confident, and I got lazy reading last year so I thought the challenge will make it more fun for me...and it actually did! Plus , I can still get lost in the book. So....... it is fun for me!

  • @genevieveswan I'm glad :) If it doesn't stress you out, it's all good.

  • I think I've long been spoiled as to reading for pleasure. I have to read for uni, I have to read for review, there is no more reading slowly, there is no more reading for pleasure.

I'm doing the Terry Pratchett challenge. Read at least 10 Terry Pratchett books this year.

  • @SableCaught That sounds HORRIBLE! =O Your situation, I mean. Not your challenge. I love Pratchett. <3

  • @MaxieMagyx Don't take Eng Lit as a degree XP

  • I am doing a "Numbered Book Challenge" this year. That of 50 books in a year. So I kinda took your advice on that. lol. Good video! I am a newer subscriber of yours!

  • @JdubHimself011 Yey! :) Welcome!

  • i subconsciously set a numbered book challenge reading 100 pages per day and it freaks me out! DX

  • @ilovefunnyvideos216 x'DDD you subconsciously challenged yourself? Well, if you ever get tired after 50 pages and just want to sleep. DO IT! IT'S OK!!!

  • @MaxieMagyx well i see it as "hmm 50 pages, well i could read 10 more. hmm 60 pages, i could read 10 more." and then when i'm at 90 i think "well what the hell im only 10 pages away" it's so unsettling E_E

  • *high five* :D made me laugh!

I can totally see where you're coming from, even though those kind of challenges work for me. It's not really pushing me to reach that goal, but it helps to motivate me to read *more* in general. I'm doing the Goodreads book challenge again (last year: 100, this year: 125) and the Debut Author Challenge (last year: 12, this year: 20) because they motivate me to read more.

And because it's on Goodreads, I see/read books that wouldn't usually be my cup of tea :)

  • @lvngbooks That's brilliant :) I'm glad it works for you. AND GOOD LUCK! 125 books is a lot of books OoO

  • @MaxieMagyx LOL I know, but last year I read 130, so I guessed 125 is totally doable..

    I think I need a life.

  • @lvngbooks NO! Your life is awesome =P

  • Totally agree with your point of view on this. I am doing a numbered book challenge because I have been a lazy reader up to this point and I wanted to put some structure into my reading. However, I decided to aim low and realistic at 30 and if I complete early, I step it up gradually - that way the challenge and the structure is still there, but there isn't the pressure that you spoke of.
