  • how can you have been building it for a year? are you self - machining it or did you buy a kit? is it finished yet?

  • @skybluedragonator - It didn't take a year to build- it took about a year to get around to building it. It only took a weekend to assemble it, and then a few hours after to tune it and break it in. If you'll look at my other videos, you can see videos of the Ruby running. We've had it running since July of 2008- although I put bigger cylinders on it the beginning of 2010, and built a new cab out of wood a few months ago.

  • I assembled Ruby kit,but i did not have any compressor so that i I could not help omitting air test. Test on fire without rehearsal was very strained and the tension has been pleasure.

I have one question:Did'nt you use steam oil when you test by air?I think that the best way to test by air is to connect ilne from compressor in front of the oil tank .

  • How did you connect the air compressor to the valve assembly? It looks like zip ties and some kind of plastic tubing. Did you have a special nozzle on the air compressor or anything?

  • alex- I used a small piece of fuel line from our racing karts- but any kind of rubber hose with the right I.D. can be bought at your local auto parts store, and it's hooked up to a $5 Harbor Freight air nozzle that I use to blow crud off the top of my workbench and drill press. Really, it was improvising with things I had laying around.

  • Thanks for the reply. I'm going to try to conjure something up to test my Ruby kit tonight before I add the boiler.

  • No problem- I know a lot of guys use those garden sprayers with the hand pumps. Having a compressor handy just seemed to make light work out of it. Good luck with it! The Ruby was a fun project for us.

  • Skip-

I'm not sure. I had heard that Accucraft stopped making the kits. I got mine from Quisenberry Station, but that was almost 2 years ago. I've seen a couple on ebay 3 or 4 months ago. Good luck!

  • can you still get the kits?

  • I just bought a kit from a guy in Colorado. You can call Accucraft and ask them for the contact info of a distributor near you.

  • @SkipW yes you can.
