  • thank you for posting!

  • Thompson twins will be performing in heaven throughout eternity

  • I just decided to do search for "Tompson Twins" just curious as a heard the name............What is this? I LOVE IT!!!!

  • @arrisstuff The Thompson Twins were one of the greatest sounds of the Eighties...check out there other hits.if you like them you will also like Howard Jones as they were similar in sound.

  • the Dislikes are probably abusive pricks.

  • so wunderful song bring me back to the early 80 . Feeling cold and lonely and listening to this kind of music. If I had a time machine i crawl back and never come back.

  • my goodness.. gives me palpitation. thats how the 80s do it. thank you for posting.

  • everyone enjoys steak

  • ...so does the name "Thompson Twins" come from The Adventures of Tintin or something?...you know this beginning part is a lil bit dramatic for me, I prefer the standard version that's on The Gap.

  • @NeuralNetProcessor If memory serves I believe "Thompson Twins" was a British cartoon strip about a pair of detectives.

  • @dolfnfan Nope. They were named after two Herge's characters from the Tin Tin series of comics, books and animations. Tin Tin was French, though you are right about the detectives part :)

  • @dolfnfan Not quite right. They were named after two Herge's characters from the Tintin series of comics, books and animations. Tintin was French, though you are right about the detectives part :)

  • @NeuralNetProcessor They are indeed. The Thompson twins were tow detectives that featured in the Tintin stories by Herge. They were later translated into english, and that's how they came by the name.

  • Awesome!!!!! Christ I am old!

  • @nonterraqueous YOUR NOT OLD.....YOUR JUST GETTING BETTER......

  • @nonterraqueous

Not old! Vintage! I'm vintage too!

    LOL.

  • I LISTENED TO THIS SONG ON TAPE & CD SO MUCH THAT MY TAPE SKIPS THIS SONG & THE CD DOES THE SAME...I'M NOT AN ADVOCATE OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE BUT CLOSE YOUR EYES & LISTEN TO IT AGAIN & YOU'LL FEEL HER PAIN....THOMPSON TWINS MADE THE 80's FOR ME

  • I'M SO GLAD I DISCOVERED MUSIC VIDEOS ON YOUTUBE CAUSE I-TUNES SUCKS & NEVER HAS THE TOTAL CATALOG FROM THE ARTIST ......NAPSTER BLOWS DONKEY ( @#$% ) & DON'T ME STARTED ON E-MUSIC

  • I miss them .....

  • Great track my fav!!!! Got every thing they did even as a 7 piece and this is still my fav!!

  • They had some of the best videos out there, those

  • "Close to the Bone" got bagged by a lot of critics but the lyric writing is some of the best imagery pop/rock music has ever produced. "Long Goodbye" is worth a close look.

  • Saw them in concert so many times, they are awesome, wish they would have a reunion tour I'd be there in a heartbeat with my husband who was a huge fan. This song was so incredible in concert I love it

  • This song is so musical, well written an well delivered, i loved this as a child and still love it now

  • Where did you get your info from Tabstarkin? Alannah and Tom are still friends, but can't live with eachother and never really did! Joe is fine, I spoke to him last week and he is looking forward to seeing Tom and Alannah in the British summer time!!!

  • Fantastic song.. strong lyrics.. certainly don't make music like this these days...

  • This has always been my favourite song by the group. It has a deep quality of mood to it. A beautiful but unsettling song.

  • Had all the albums, still played loads on the ipod. Awesome!!!

  • She lives......then the fantastic piano chord. they were so good

  • This is just so good. Big it back, please!

  • brill takes me way back thanks tabstarkin

  • lol! the dead dude is The Simon Bates of Radio-1--sans Spec's :))))

  • Cool hairstyle ... might get stuck when grandpiano's top crashes down, though ... huhh, these 80ies ... how ... hahaha ... dangerous they were ...

  • one of the best albums from the 80s

  • glad its on here, thoughtful lyrics, moody synth, and real atmosphere, it was songs like this that made the 80s a good time to be in, you just dont hear quality like this now....

  • @sonnythetwit

I agree with you totally. They don't make music of this quality today do they? I was a teenager back in that decade and I miss it for sure. Good times back then and not a care in the world.

  • Quite honestly, the video disappoints me a little. I always thought this was a song about a woman finally breaking after years of domestic abuse. That it's about adultery is just underwhelming.

This is still far and away their best song, though, and one that still touches me 20-some-odd years later.

  • Possibly the best ever TT song. Never thought they made also a video. Any chance to find the collection on DVD ?

  • None of the Thompson Twins videos have been released on DVD thus far! (as of ec 2009) The only DVD avaliable is of their Side Kicks tour concert in Liverpool 1983

  • test

  • wow this is what happens lads when we fuck about behind r wives backs...........................cud of been worse she cud of cut his balls off.ha ha

  • Hard Candy is the scariest movie ever!

  • classic! there were so many in the 80s

  • thiss one of the most beautiful song l ever heard touch me deeply inside great voice thompson twins will never die

  • This song started playing in my mind the other day so I had to look it up. Great stuff.

  • Brill Song Ahhh the 80's

  • Why did Joe Leeway leave the band?

  • Just listening to this makes me want to pull out the ol' records, and 45's, even though I've down loaded them! (sigh) This just brings back soooooo many memories, and even the fashion, loved it, and glad to say I had my day of it too! Thanks for posting such a classic of a song and band! They made sooo many great songs back in the day! ; ) 5*****

  • They must play this song at a lot of "old navy" clothing stores in America.. mrskool078 and QuestingElf... who's going to be next???? Great song though.... total class.

  • I heard this song at old navy clothing store in chicago and had to come home to find it!! Don't you just love the 80's?

If U like this song search turn back the clock! beautiful

  • Such an amazing song, and unfortunately, such a sub-par video.

  • This takes me back to being a kid at home listening to this on my cassette player. Amazing song - timeless

  • I just heard this song yesterday at Old Navy in San Jose, CA. Excellent!!!

  • This is my fave Thompson Twins song. I think they were totally underrated.... they were pure class.

  • are you all there ?

  • Great vid, although a bit gruesome! The song is the best...!!!

  • @clairelouise34

There had to be at least one....

  • @clairelouise34

They were only a little group...

    Totally forgotten...

  • @clairelouise34 they were the best!!!

  • *All-time top five song beginnings

  • If you can find a compilation album called "Living in Oblivion vol 4" you will find this great remix to "Sister of Mercy" used here in the video! I miss you TT!

  • This is an incredible song by an awesome band. Thanks for posting this!

  • Great great song. Tom had the coolest hairstyle. If I had hair like his, I would wear it the same way today! Not only that, I would bare-knuckle fight, any modern cream puff that give me shit about it, so there!

Can't wait for the eighties to come 'round again........................

  • well said !!!

  • A beautiful song. And a fav of mine from way back when. Thanks!!!

  • who needs a Tardis when ya got classic music like this to transport ya back in timwe, lol

  • Remarkable.

This has been on of my favorite songs of all time from TT and now I discover they made a lovely video of it!

Thank you for posting it. 25 Years and its just the same. ;-)

  • This was easily my fave Thompson hit record. I wonder where this band are today?

  • Tom and Alanah are married and live in New zeland, Joe still does music somewhere. they are planning a reunion.

  • Actually, Tom and Alannah are divorced now; she lives in London and Tom lives in France with his new wife, Lauren. Joe lives in LA and works in the field of hypnotherapy.

  • And they are NOT planning a reunion. None of them are interested. Alannah has been quoted as saying that she's "rather puke on her boots."

  • @Tabstarkin

That's a damn shame. Hopefully they will change their minds. At least Tom & Joe should reunite but it won't be the same without Alannah. I'd like to think if Curt Smith & Roland Orzabal could have a TFF reunion given their history (they'll be in NYC for a concert in August), that it could happen for the Thompson Twins too someday.

  • @Tabstarkin

Reunions are great but not doing one isn't the end of the world. Doesn't change the awesome music they left us.

  • Lost love, perfect anyway!

  • this is so my faviourite song of all i love it

  • so great

  • One of my favourite 80s tracks...just brilliant

  • I bought this record at that time a LP 1982???, and i listen, listen,....

  • Forgot how talented these guys were. Their music is timeless! Geez, why can't we get "artists" like this today?

  • "artists" today can't play piano... or anything else...this is timeless..

  • @mdmdoink There are many artists/instrumentalists that play piano these days! You just need do a slight search for them! :)

  • re the last comment from hmcs2... thats amazing !! i think I stayed the same night at the Portland as you !! They were holding me up at check out the following morning and i had a cab waiting outside !! They were tiny !!! and brilliant too !!

  • They stayed at The Porthand Hotel in Manchester, And they bought me a drink. Top Song though.

  • Remember listening to this on cassette in my bedroom as a kid...it's still brilliant

  • Why don't the really good 80's bands like the Thompson Twins ever reunite? Why is it always the talentless ones?

  • The T-Twins probably won't reunite because of Tom and Alannah became a couple leaving Joe kinda out in the cold, and now her and Tom are divorced....that would be an awkward reunion.

  • Haven't herad this for years, they're still as good as ever to listen to. SAD 55 YEAR OLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • this is so weird, i have been a TT fan for over 25 years now. GOD that sound old - first time seeing this video. THANK YOU!!

  • Easy way around feeling old.....ignore the 90s completely (pop culture wise). Works for me!

  • check out BABBLE - Former Thompson Twins Tom Bailey & Alannah Currie's group with the song 'Take me Away ' on youtube, watch?v=0tf9rMCDkGU

  • How do you think Tom's piano in this was set up? Is it a regular acoustic piano run through an effects processor, or an electric piano (like a Yamaha CP70)?

  • I noticed that. He's sat at a grand but the sound is electric. I think the piano in the vid is for effect.

  • @sergeastorms67 Yep. You called it right! LOL

  • The intro is completely different than what I remember from the tape, which I used to have. I remember it having a different syncopation & speed. I actually like this intro quite a bit more!

  • TT at the max

    Thanks for these songs.

  • damn dude.. alannah's hair at 2:28 while she wails on the instrument, so awesome!!

  • Nick Rhodes!

  • In 84 I used to cycle round Lincolshire after work lissening to this album (on my MP3, sic)and forgot about it till now, great memories Thanx

  • in 84 I used to cycle along the beach in san diego and listen to this tape non stop. this song really takes u back....

  • Damn this is fine. This is different to the original album cut. I've loved their music right from the start. I've got them live at Live aid in 1985.

  • The TT knocked out some good tunes didn't they? Along with some magnificent hair cuts. Man, his hair is alive in this one. I'm sure it's Basil Brush in hiding following his tax evasion.

  • IAlways liked this - great production as always (3.08 - 3.25 especially). First time I've ever seen the video..

  • Totally agree with you, the production is bloody good on this one. His hair was something else altogether though, I'm sure it's a live stoat jiggling to the music.

  • I love this song. Wow! It's been some years. Thanks for posting!

  • Great music endures.

  • God this reminds me of being a 'new romantic' in 83/84!

  • in high school i was a BIG fan of the thompson twins. (so you can imagine the teasing I got since i have the last name Thompson) :P

  • LOVE THIS SONG

  • I forgot how amazing they were and how much I love them.

  • good music always makes me smile.. funny how that is..

  • seen them feel in love great to see them on here

  • my wife came running downstairs,oh my god wot a song!

  • I found a sealed thompson twins singles collection cd in my bedroom tonight and thought i,ll play that.I love this song but i don,t remember it from the 80s or when ever they were around. only remember hold me now and doctor doctor but i look on you tube for the video used to have to wait every thursday night for top of the pops. Not any more. THANKS FOR POSTING.

  • was one of the first tapes i had for my walkman!! class...

  • whats a walkman? Is that one of those things they discovered in King Tut's Tomb?

  • one of the greatest songs ever written!

  • This song is absolutely INCREDIBLE. I recommend it to anyone.

  • This the best Thompson Twins song. The vocals are hauntingly beautiful.

  • Love this song, nearly 25 years on and i still can't get it out of my head.

  • This is one of my favorite songs!

    Classic 80s synth- excellent.

  • Beverly D'Angelo? Surely not.

  • Looks like her, but isn't. And stop calling me Shirley.

  • I hope they DON'T reform. Let's not taint our memories with a half-assed reunion. Let's keep it special; let's keep it in the 1980's.

  • Brilliant- 80's classic, thanks!

  • I remember seeing them live back in the 8o´s.Fucking brilliant !!!!

  • just googled frances tomelty, she has this year been doing "cupid strikes" a radio play for the bbc,as narrator

  • That woman in the video,is stings first wife, frances tomelty !!

  • not sure about that she died quite a few years ago, drugs overdose, due to server depression

  • i dont think your right there, check imbd or wilkapidia, they still give acting credits for last year, besides i dont think she is that kind of person,i could be wrong but, check out imbd.

  • Thanks for this great video! I am from Asia, and my friends & I all love the T.Twins! We grabbed the deluxe versions of Into The Gap and Q.& Sidekicks the moment they were released - awesome remixes and b-sides!!!

Tom's hair is pretty cool in this video, in fact I think this 80s hairdo thing is slowly making a comeback, more and more teenagers in my country are beginning to look more and more like Howard Jones and Limahl, haha. : )

    80s ROCKs!

  • I have not heard this version. I really like it. Thanks for posting.

  • Great music of the 1980's and a great band. I don't care what people say but the 1980's is my favourite decade for music as I was growing up and I still listen to the classics today 20+ years on!

Thanks for sharing I will check your other vids out to see if you have any more 80's gems such as this one!

    Best wishes

    Leigh Ann

  • well said, my feelings exactly.

  • Wow. It is so great to see all the positive comments about this song, and this band. They defined a large part of the 80's. Terrific stuff, up there with Tears For Fears, ABC, OMD, and Haircut 100.
