The bridge was grey?? You must've been looking at The Bay Bridge by mistake - which is grey and also a suspension bridge (SF side at least). Too bad you missed the GGB...which has always been painted orange.
I love San Francisco. I was there last year and walked the bridge, it wasn't as big of a 'hike' as I thought. It was so much fun, and that area is beautiful. Alactraz Tour was a blast, too.
This is such a good video as are all of them, i dream of goin to America and California one day and this would be the first place i would go! Thank you!
@xtinkerbell91x Thank you! It's great to see this is person, and so much fun to drive across. If you have time, take a walk across it on the walking path. :)
As a German, it's important to me that Joseph Strauss, creator of the Golden Gate Bridge, was of German origin! Wikipedia notes it, but other than that, few people know that.
the bay bridge is hideous, and who wants to drive into oakland anyways? that's why the west bound upperdeck leads into the city where you get a great view of the sf skylines as you approach the city; going to oakland you're on the gloomy lower deck foreshadowing the violent crimes in oakland.
when i went there i was walking on the bridge when i spit at the ground not the water and it about 10 seconds just to reach the ground.. you could also see alcatraz and bay bridge from there
Unforunately. There is a documentary called The Bridge that I watched on You Tube. They had cameras trained on several popular jumping places and recorded several people jumping. it usually happened too quickly for police to get there and prevent it.
Good question! It's actually painted a color called International Orange. The bridge was named for Golden Gate Strait which is the entrance from the Pacific Ocean to San Francisco Bay.
unfortunately I traveled over the bridge very late at night coming from the airport so I didnt get to see it the way I wanted or the way yous do ( boo hoo) lol but I can say I was on it lol tks for the visual loved Cali will definately Be back and be sure to see the bridge during day hehe Oh and the sunsets are just gorgeous ty
Thanks for your comments! Hopefully you'll be able to see it properly next time. It really is a magnificent piece of architecture and quite beautiful. Take care! Veronica
unfortuneatly I travel it very late at night from lax and did not get to see it the way yous do ( boo hoo ) but I can say I was on it lol ty for the visual hehe
Living in the Bay Area and driving back and forth on the bridge, the bridge isn't that great of a thing to me. There are other great sites in San Francisco, but when the word San Francisco comes to the mind of someone who doesn't live here, the Golden Gate is probably the first that comes to mind.
Thanks for the comment! We're actually heading to the Bay Area over Spring Break. Can you suggest some of your favorite must-see attractions, restaurants, hotels or things to do when we go? It's great to get someone else's perspective! Take care! Veronica
Union Square is definitley a great place to go. Some great tourists spots are the Coit Tower, Fisherman's Wharf, Alcatraz. And if they like theatre, the ACT theatre holds great productions. Just some ideas. I'm happy to have an input.
Thanks Jenin! I love Union Square and Fisherman's Wharf. We did a video of Alcatraz during our last visit, but I've never been to Coit Tower, so we'll definitely check that out. Thanks again, and feel free to send along more of those great tips! Veronica
Thanks Tim! I wish we had known about the other vista point. It would have been neat to see. Now I have to go check it out on Google Maps! We're glad you enjoyed the video. It was so cool to see it in person and ride over the bridge. Scary, but certainly thrilling!
Fantastic! I was here in October, 2007. There is another great vista point above the one you were at. You have to go up the road at the next exit I believe. You can see this road clearly on Google Maps. The elevation is about 400 feet higher than the lower vista area.
Thanks for sharing the video about our city's bridge! We always tell our guest to rent bikes and ride across it.

I've work by the GG bridge since 1998, and it's never been grey. Could you have been wearing color-distorting sunglasses? Or been struck colorblind?

@TheDJVAQ You were probably looking at the oakland bay bridge, not the Golden Gate bridge...
