@Djb579421 let me help you with some small part of your ignorance: assuming he uses a standard scale Guitar [24.75-25.5"] it is likely that he uses heavier gauged strings since lighter gauges tend to pull less tension at a given tuning. heavier string gauges would allow tuning down while still maintaining sufficient tension. if it's a baritone guitar [which is possible since don ross is a really big guy], then reverse the above.
