LMAO that first shot slayed me, juxtaposed with this vid's title. He is masculine many times too depending on the situation and the person he's with (like women, whom he obviously adores.) It's the gay community that will need to be equally accepting when they realize they can't claim him.
In addition to his talent, which sometimes gets eclipsed by superficial silly stuff, Johnny Weir has guts and good humor. He's also smart. I hope he'll find something great to do after he takes off his skates.
is he related to his African-American cousins by blood or marriage? wish that guy would have got more into learning about that ,instead of asking & trying to figure out what sexuality he is.
He seems kind of sad in this video:(, altough the reporter is not offencive or anything (even asking about sexuality etc). I love that guy, so genuine and graceful on or off the ice.
What's important about it? To answer that question.... you being a role model for young gay kids who can ahve someone to look up to, someone who is OPEN, and not ASHAMED of who they are in any way. All of us in the older generation didn't fight for our acceptance from him to be all obtuse when he's had his path to gay acceptance paved by US.
Maybe he just doesn't know himself. It may seem really obvious to some people, but he hasn't had a relationship in years. He could be bisexual and hesitant to say that he is just gay.
Even if he is, why should he be a beacon for homosexuality? To him he is a figure skater first and foremost, and too much attention is spent defining him by his sexuality. Not every single gay person needs to take on the duty to be a spokesperson for homosexuality. Give the guy a break and just let him skate.
DAMN that last sort of speech of what's to be a good American, just made me love him even more D:
I'm Mexican, I live in Mexico, I have never been to the USA, and I dislike the people who feels they're better than other 'cause they are Americans, so hearing this from him really means a lot, people should think more like him and this would be a better world.
"and I think you're going to pee a little bit..."!!! That's awesome. I won wrestling championships, practiced MMA, rode a bicycle from Charleston to San Fran, & will soon marry an awesome woman. I am a "man." Yet it "took work" to accept that I like flowers and Grey's Anatomy. I appreciate art and musicals and culture and good conversation. Oh, and I'm still a "man." And I respect the heck our brothers and sisters like Johnny who broaden our hysterical definitions of a "man" or "woman"
As much as I hate to see him being one of these people who wear fur, there're so many wonderful qualities about this man, one of it is that Johnny Weir is so natural at all times, he's very true to himself, this is a good example for others to see, we've got way too many pretentious people in this world, and his talent is beyond measure.
what an awkward interviewer.

Is that the fur he got hate mail over?

No, it was a small tuft of silver fox fur on the left shoulder of one of his costumes.
