Speaking of which; No, we really shouldn't allow light bulbs with mercury vapor in them. LEDs will likely kill them off though, so I'm not sure it's something, in the big picture, to worry about.

The point is that this is the same type of bureaucracy that is responsible for telling us whether it is safe to drink flouride or to take a new perscription drug. This is the process by which we determine whether second hand smoke is dangerous, and to what extent. If the process of honest scientific review is corrupted by politics, we all suffer.
