Wow, as I watched this again, she really does look absolutely terrified at the beginning. She reminds me a bit of Maria Butyrskaya (the 1999 world champion), who was usually flawless in practice but famously lost it to nerves when competing. Here's hoping she is able to find the JOY in skating again, because that's what it's all about. You really need to love it in order to be in the zone.

It always makes me sad to see her stumble so badly in some of her free programs. She seems like a really sweet person, and she is obviously stunningly beautiful. It seems that her fundamentals were not properly trained, and recently she has been going back to the drawing board, so to speak. I agree with others that such performances remind us how hard the sport is, and how in awe we should be of champions who are able to be consistent.

this has to happen for the public to realise just how difficult it is. if it never happend they would not know.

Tragic. So good to see her come back and do better since then. How do we as fans let our favorites know we're behind them without having them feel so much pressure that they implode at the crucial moment, or feel devastated even at a single missed rotation?

I so dislike seeing this happen even when a skater is NOT my favorite.

the only thing that missed in the winter ol 2010, was sasha cohen... its so sad to se the skaters, and know that your favorite skater not comming. and the sadest thing is, that i believed hat she could take the gold medal that year :-(

As much as I want to support a fellow Italian, I don't think I've ever seen her skate a clean long program. It's sad :(

i've never really liked carolina that much, but i find it extremely sad that she went so bad in this performance.. you know.. working a whole year for this competition and doing so bad

Sad to see such a gifted, artistic skater perform so afar below her potential. I'd love to have seen her program the way she performed it in practice

She was so loose on this day.

Music was also a loose piece of string.

Never should have used these kind.

Considering her other performance she unfortunately performed only 80 percent.

This may be not her day but the costume probably costed her best olympic chance.

She should have focused more on aerobic part because she is clearly out of gas before the half time.

She surely did not feel comfortable.

She did not enter this favored but this is sub par performance for her.

poor carolina. She is such a good, talented skater. I think the nerves got the better of her on that day. She can skate so much better than this and when I saw this I just thought , 'no, no, no!' She has to remember that she IS a world silver medalist and a two time world bronze medalist, which makes her a great skater. I'm sure she'll learn from her mistakes and hopefully one day capture a world title.

i don't know why she keep making mistakes. she is such a wonderful skater but she made too many mistakes here and 2009 worlds. hope she can fix that problem.

aw, she looks like she's about to cry at 3:06 :( I'm so sad that she had such a rough skate, I've had the same problem- mess up on nearly every jump.

What's with the male commentator with his remark "I don't think she ever will (deliver)"?! That is simply disrespectful to the athlete and her fans. One might have that thought, but it's definitely his place to say it on air.

Carolina is such a lovely skater, so sorry for her for this disappointing performance, but this season she's been one of the very best both at European and World champs
