@Beanick Jeez, is this what happens when old age sets in? Of course you are correct - the Statler Bros did Counting Flowers on the Wall. My Dad used to walk around the house singing it when I was a kid. Where did I get the idea that the song is about housewives with nothing to do? As my Dad sang he would give my Mother meaningful looks when he got to the part about watching Captain Kangaroo! Anyway, your video is great because of the lorikeets wrestling in all of their beautiful birdie glory.
Ok, it's official now. This is my absolute most very favorite video on all of youtube!! It surpasses even "Charlie bit my finger" on the cuteness scale in my humble opinion. Roger Miller was such a good ol' goofy American comic singer - when he laughs at :44, I have to laugh with him. If only you would do a video with your spectacular birds set to Roger Miller's song (can't remember the name) about housewives sitting at home all day "counting flowers on the wall" and "eating bon-bons" ....
@GardianAngel16 I love that question!! It's"Whistle Stop" by Roger Miller and was used in Disneys Robin Hood. A high pitched version was also used in the internet phenomenon "Hamster Dance". Hope you didn't go crazy just yet!!
That's really interesting- because we'll do this with our own Amazon parrot, roll them over on their back and wrestle them with our hands. He loves it.
Also, wherever you live, I want to move there, to see those astonishingly beautiful birds playing in MY backyard! :o
i love this birds they r the most colorful creatures wish i had birds like this come n go i would be in heaven.i do have a white bellied caquie n a maximillion pionus. i did have a female eclectus who past away in november from a heartattack she was 8 yrs old had her when she was 4 months.still sad i miss her so much.do u know what kind of parrots this r that i mentioned?
he had found him self a partner, she even moved into the same cage with him on the apricot tree, till one time she decided to fly away, my little buddy tried to follow her, jumping from branch to branch. I never saw him after that.
I remember the baby lorikeet I found with a broken wing. Took him in and cared for him. We became close companions, he loved to climb up on me and nibble on my ear lobe. He lived in a big cage up near where I found him on an apricot tree. I left the door open for him so he can climb around the tree but he was never able to fly. He'd jump from branch to branch eating the fruits.
Then one day I went outside to play with him and I saw him cuddling up with a female parrot, more to come
ive never seen a bird lay on its back willingly before lol. my Black capped conure sleeps on her back and the first day we had her we thought she was dead lol ! now she says "NO! Harley died!" when we walk past her cage . always teasing us:P theyre beautiful lorikeets :D
@GrowTheCaine - it's called "Whistle Stop" by Roger Miller and was used in Disneys Robin Hood. A high pitched version was also used in the internet phenomenon "Hamster Dance".
wOw, that is the best video ever!! very inspiring as i have a lorrikeet on youtube (swearing possessed lorrikeet), and recently got a new one, would love them to wrestle like this!!!
@julia393n thanks for that, yes I feel very privileged to live amongst the birds in Bayview, which is on Sydneys northern beaches at the south end of Broken Bay and Pittwater.
Great Video! I have that song as ringtone on my phone... as soon as I heard the song I wanted to grab my phone! But the I realized that it was on my computer hihi!
That's one of the most adorable things I've seen in awhile - brought a smile to my face all afternoon. ... and the music is perfect. Thanks for the little slice of heaven.
@toxxicrose Glad you liked it! And yes you are right about the music, it was a Disney production from quite a few years ago, Roger Miller is the singer/whistler.
Sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo cute!!!!! Rainbow Lorikeets are the most gorgeous birds in the world .... its one of the many things I miss about home.
@dougfilmu Nice vid! looks like a bunch of happy birds, will have to look into that formula myself. I wish all ours did was eat, but (as I'm sure you've found) they quite like to excrete as well! Happy birding, and many thanks for the great video response!!
my lori screams flatout when i get home from work, he hears me pull up the driveway in my car, he cant stand being in his cage when im home.. hes a spoilt brat
@ElleEctro I agree, they are "love birds" after all! But when on their own they can often substitute for another lori by forming a close bond with a human which is why they're so popular as pets.
They are very playful and would get incredibly bored and depressed alone, so unless you're with it 24/7, get 2. Any more then 2 and they can start to compete. My mother had 4 and they just screamed at each other all the time. Now I have 2 and mum has 2 and they're quite quiet (unless really playing, or if they can hear me but can't see me).
Keep in mind their special diet and liquid poop. It's rather messy.
@LikeTheBang It's"Whistle Stop" by Roger Miller and was used in Disneys Robin Hood. A high pitched version was also used in the internet phenomenon "Hamster Dance".
I absolutely love all of your videos! I love to learn about Australian wildlife and the lorys are so beautiful! I love my lory, Nikki. She is so sweet and tame. I wish we here in Canada could have wild parrots in our gardens!
@holmsatlarge Of all my feathered visitors, the lorys are my favorite. They are very social creatures, and seem to really enjoy interaction with people. Sometimes I get 40 or 50 all at once and the bickering. playing and screeching reminds me of a kids picnic. And I never cease to be amazed at their truly extraordinary coloring!
I have a green nape lory named Nikki and she is 2yrs. old. She is a wonderful bird! I am crazy about her. You are so lucky to have them as native birds. I love this video! It is so cute!
Just seeing them jump along is enough to make you laugh, how do you get so many wild ones at your house? I also have a pet lorrikeet, it's pretty awesome.
@Beanick Watching your videos is a constant delight for me! I am a real bird lover and have been all my life. I was always trying to save sick baby birds when I was a little girl. I still love to watch them. I have a bird feeder in my front garden. Birds make the world a happier place!
My lori loves to wrestle rolled up socks. She's a riot. She hisses at them like a cat and puffs up steping back and forth like she's challenging them to fight back.
Maybe your lorikeet is horny! I see exactly the beahviour you describe (minus the socks) between bird pairs quite often and it is almost always followed by mounting - either successful or otherwise. It's almost always the males that do it, maybe you have a boy? Almost impossible to tell them apart visually.
Where is this video taken because I use to get a lorrikeet that had this thing growing off it's head like the Lori you have filmed. I have a feeling it is the same lori that use to visit me in Sydney...
This vid was taken in Bayview, south end of Pittwater, Sydney. I reviewed the original vid carefully and I think what you are seeing is ruffled feathers where they are nipping each other in play. There is one lori who visits me with an odd deformity, it has one of its legs and claw in the middle of its back! It hops around and otherwise seems to function perfectly well.
Thanks for the comment! You are right about the music - it's called "Whistle Stop" by Roger Miller and was used in Disneys Robin Hood. A high pitched version was also used in the internet phenomenon "Hamster Dance".
