what the hell are they doing with those flails at 00:20 ? i get a feeling that this man was chosen randomly to do a slow-motion, big-words based show, and here is the result
Unless it is a very weak wood, you aren't going to chop it off like that with a sword chop. Chip it, take nicks out of it, sure. Chop a propperly made spear in half with an arming sword. not happening.
@supersmash43 They suuuuuure are...The original gun control, the nobles banning guns to make sure the peons couldn't fight and didn't get any big ideas like democracy or human rights. Oh such fantastic political analogies I can make
Come on!, they get hit one time and they're floored and rendered useless, and how can you say using this weapons was exhausting! These Medieval warriors did nothing from their puberty on but train for battle, you cannot compare our endurance to these weapons with theirs, I'm sure the only way you could stop them was by choping their arms, legs or head of or by inflicting severe internal damage trhough long intense blow exchanges, not these ridicule dances, is like teaching karate with puppets!!!
It proves that these tools may be called "tools of murder", but ultimately, a tool is a tool. Unless the weapon has a mind of its own, the killing intent really comes from the one using it.
@bartieboy93 ....he wont if he does it right. to use the ball and chain you must swing it in a ferocious figure 8 pattern. but not all the time or youll get worn out. do it in burst's! like with an M-60!
@lolofdoom If you look at the warhammer, add a long spike to the top and bottom, enlarge the hammer bit and lengthen the curved hook on the other side and you have the poleaxe, a larger, more deadly two handed version of the warhammer.
@elgostine no. however, technically, yes. A poleaxe could have a hammer OR a sharpe axe head on one side, but it was still called a poleaxe.
Fun Fact: The poleaxe was a favoured weapon of the English knights throughout the high and later medieval periods for when fighting dismounted. Sword/flail with shield came in a close second.
Seeing the flail reminded me of the nunckus, both are the flails and as suggested needed skill to control, the big difference is the Europeans had ones with longer handles and they had made other developments making them into more sophisticated weapons.

i tought the flail was also used to hit people hiding behind there shields because the chain makes this possible
thebowman2 1 year ago
@thebowman2 IT Could Happen, but very Unlikely. The Chain wrapping around the shield Would be an advantage for the Shield Weilder.

@lolofdoom the poleaxe was used since the start of plate armour.
The poleaxe's other name was the warhammer.

titytit 10 months ago
@titytit that explains why theywield it in medieval 2 total war when dismounted
i also know the billhook is a english favorite.
elgostine 10 months ago
@elgostine billhooks were peasent wapons, used by the (very well armoured) billmen who guarded the longbows.
Standard formation was 2-3 ranks of billmen guarding 4+ ranks of longbowmen. Its what made the english army so deadly.

schizoidboy 2 years ago
@schizoidboy The nunchaku more of an agile, defensive, disabling tool, while the flail is heavier, offensive, and meant to crush armor
