I thought something was slightly wrong when I was watching my season four dvd set...now I know. Has the season three intro on the dvd set also been altered? I don't own season three yet.
LOL I used to watch the reruns during summer break on daytime tv in the 80s...TOTALLY AWESOME!! LOL again at 0:10 of the video as they don't BLINK an eye at the "explosion" behind them as they simply turn as if someone was calling their names...LOL I LOVE IT!! :-D
This isn't the original one, but it's the one I was looking for with Mantooth flicking the tube seals in the air. Thanks for posting this! Watching the old one's on Netflix and didn't see that scene.
This theme here was just from Season 5. The old original theme was used for Season 4 with the original theme footage, but it was an updated version of Riddle's theme. Both were ditched in the syndication package in favor of the Season 6 opening. Unfortunately, Universal failed to include either version (original 4 and 5) in the DVDs. How maddening.
@case139 I was about to make the same comment. I have the DVDs for all six seasons, and the final series of two hour movies that were done in the late 1970s. It's a real shame they didn't add the the original themes for season four or five (with the exception of the episode "905-Wild", that was supposed to be a pilot for a show that Jack Webb was trying to pitch about L.A. County Animal Control, which, of course, didn't become a series).
Wow I have not seen this in forever! Back in the mid 90s (1995-1996) they used to re-run it on TBS (I think) right after The Love Boat and we'd watch it every night after dinner. But the intro is a LOT different than I remember. Maybe because it was syndicated? And who can forget the alarm tone? lolz. This show was on when my dad (who later became a volunteer fireman) was a teenager.
Man, I have been racking my brain on this for 10 or so years now... i'm pretty sure it was this show-- I was only 5 or so, and maybe I mixed it with something else... anyway, one of the 'emergency's a young boy had managed to lodge his head into a coffee table that had to narrow of a gap between the lower wood and the bottom of the top-- it wasn't funny at the time, but I know If I can find that show people will get a kick out of it. They had use Vaseline... if you know, please tell me!
Those are not from season 4 and 5. I have all seasons except 7, and in the openings you can hear Randolph Mantooth call in an emergency. At the end of the opening he says "We're on our way Rampart."
@acesobrian Yes that´s true. But those on the DVDs are not the original openings that were used back then. What you can see on TV and on the DVDs are the openings of the syndication version. This is the original version that was used back in the original airing during the 70s.
@paramedic51 This is the opening that i remember as a kid. I only saw it in syndication on Saturday afternoons in the late 70s, never primetime. As a kid this opening footage and music was extremely exciting. it still is. Flairing trumpets, explosions, panning shots of speeding emergency trucks, men in action with equipment and gear. Thrilling stuff as a child. The music sets the tone. It's the most important part. Today's shows are missing it.
@paramedic51 I remember watching this in syndication as a kid on KTLA in Los Angeles. They used this theme for every episode. Then one day they switched and started using the theme with voice overs. Bummed me out. LOL
I was born in '71 and only remember Emergency! from its syndication run on KTLA (1978-88). THIS is the only opening I ever knew as a kid--the way it was shown as Emergency! One in L.A.. Thanks for posting!
these was the visuals used for the last two opening, but in season 6 (and some later syndication prints of season 1-5), they used the voice of the actors.
I don't remember this opening at all. Odd thing is that I was 9 years old when the series originally ended, but the only opening I remember is the one for the first three seasons (where it zooms in on the biophone at the end before it fades to black).
Uk can get the DVDs on amazon.co.uk in the film and tv listings.

One problem that no one else has mentioned. You start about 5 seconds late. You left out the station two tone alert.
But it's at least done with good resolution. I hate when someone post a vid sooo bad you can just barely make out what it's about.

@paramedic51 Actually, it's the season 5 intro. Season 6 used the "dialogue" intro that you find in the syndicated and DVD releases.

was the scene at 0:40, the 'bicarb thumb pop' an actually cut from one of the episodes? If so, could you tell me with one? Thanks! Love Emergency!

@arkangel519 Hi! No all those scenes where shot only for the opening. They were made during the shooting of the episode The Old Engine Cram.

When the show ran in syndication on Channel 32 in Chicago. They only used this version of opening credits when airing all 7 seasons of the show.
