I didn't even think this was possible. I thought the level up system was fixed so that you always got between 1 and 5 stat increases. In all my time playing FE7, I've never gotten a zero stat level up or a 6+ stat level up.

@2000sDigitalBoy nah man, everything is completely random unless of course you're successful at RNG abuse... trust me man, I've gotten a lot of perfect level ups and a lot of duds... it'll happen to you eventually. Who knows? You might just sh** your pants lol XDD

Not only does Bartre own Dorcas, but with Bartre you can recruit Karla which is one of the best units [and a Swordmaster].

Dorcas = Better Strength, Skill, Luck

Bartre = Better HP, Spd, Res

Dorcas will definately cap his HP, Strength and Skill (and possibly his luck too) but will have pretty crappy speed (unless you give him Speedwings). Bartre tends to be more well rounded though although mine didn't actually cap anything except HP in my playthrough.

About the Bartre and Dorcas discussion. Dorcas has more BASE speed then Bartre makign him able to double a few enemies at the start of the game. With his Lyn mode stats provinding high str and Skill growths he can keep from getting doubled up till chapter 16-17 easily. His big hits help tremendeously. After that Dorcas gets Benched. Since Bartre has nothing going for him at all he usually gets Benched right off the bat. If you want an axe user get Raven and promote him.

Personally I disagree. Though Raven is pretty godly, as an axe user he ain't too good since his Con ain't amazing (though that can easily be improved with a Body Ring and his speed is good enough). However, Heroes generally have pretty rounded caps, not failing in anything but not exceeding either (like Paladins). Warriors have 30 str cap, 28 skl cap, 26 spd cap (same as Heroes) and decent def and res caps too so personally I go for Dorcas and give him some Speedwings.

that's debatable, because no one ends up having the same bartre, it's almost always different for others, unless you rng or savestate abused him then he'll turn out not far from or at perfection, so there will be people who'll disagree

Alrighty, savestate is a feature of the visualboy advance that lets you save at whatever moment in the game you're at and if something bad happens you can load that state and you'll be right where you savestated at. For fire emblem, most people use savestates before going into an arena so if a unit dies they can load the state and it'll take them back before they entered the arena. Even though this is considered cheating and is sometimes frowned upon, I use it so I won't have to restart chapters

Wrong. According to statistic averages, Dorcas stops being faster than Bartre around level 16 or so, not to mention that Bartre's better speed growth gives him more potential every level up after. Dorcas ending up with better speed than Bartre isn't impossible, but unlikely. Bartre DOES have worse problems with his Skill, though; it starts and stays crap all throughout.

Marcus is actually semi-useable in FE7. His older self in the prequel, however, is only saved from complete shittiness by the presence of a Paladin that's EVEN WORSE.

Marcus is really just a trap in the game. On my first play through I lost a ton of units due to a lack of level. Basically, he's just around to see how desperate players are. Going through the first four Eliwood story's chapters were hell, but the levels were worth it. I'm at 22 and I have three lords just at level 20

There's usually a Jeigan in most of the games I've played. There's Marcus and Seth, for example.

My strategy for using Marcus is to use him as a meat shield for weaker units.

Aye well, Bartre has better Def and Res growths than Dorcas but his mighty base speed sticks out like a sore thumb. Oh and Dorcas also has Lyndis's Tale to level up in which is a plus. But hell use who you like I say. Hell I use Erk all the time and he's not the best Mage anyway. XD

It's the RNG my friend. The Random Number Generator. It's also to do with their growths. There's a way to manipulate the RNG in the gameboy FE's but in Path of Radiance you gotta stick with what you're given. It can be a bitch most the time.
