  • Could have used one more level of smoothing to kill the edging on the horns. Your normal maps around the belt does not match your prepainted material. Other than that, good work.

  • @ProdMods Thanks, The models are old, my first noobish attemps really. BTW they are not horns they're tails coming off the head.

  • @skardart what program did you use for this?

  • @SuperJason1217 Did you watch the clip to the end?

  • @SuperJason1217 I used Maya, Z-brush and Photoshop to create the models, and Adobe After Effects and Premier-Pro for the video editing.

  • What program is this made in?

  • im 14 and im making a music vid using this program still having trublle but im getting there

  • thumbs up if you came here for 3:13

  • Hi, can you please make a tutorial on how to make a 3d human figure with animation? I've learned how to extract an image of a cup from other video sources but the human figure with animation is all i want to learn. No one has a video demonstrating how to accomplish those features.

  • any1 help like i just just got maya 2012, id need like a starter/learning guide/tut, any1 knows where i can find 1?

  • @GummybearQcStyle check gaudencez's Channel, he explains alot of the tools used for modeling

  • Do you have to know how to draw (like with pencil) to be a good molder or animator? Or can you still make it without any art background?

  • @KakashiHatakeJH An artistic background is a definate asset, modeling is artistic

  • @KakashiHatakeJH I am second year at a high school based on arts and I can say that if you don't know how to draw you can still be good at 3d art. If you wish to do something in art that can help you in 3d then do sculpting or clay modeling because it definitely helps a lot.

  • awesome dude im currently going to college for computer animation and i hope to get to this level of modeling do you have a job in the gamming industry ?

  • @Twonzeey

    Thanks.

Not at present, I'm currently working on my portfolio

  • @skardart Ohh well post your portfolio when you are done I would enjoy to see it and is their any tips you could give to a upcoming computer animator ...also any good books you recommend

  • @Twonzeey there are alot of good books out there, I've found books by Anthony ward to be quite helpful, also videos from the Gnomon Workshop look really good

  • DAT ASS

  • @LordOnyxxVEVO I was gonna say that :(

  • I have a question as a beginner in modeling. Is it right to model the whole character (his legs chest arms ets.) out of the single poligon object (don't realy know how to name it) or I should make body parts from different meshes and assign skin modifier separately? Because I am having troubles in skinning process with joint parts like shoulder and pelvis where skin follows bone movements unnaturally=(

  • @Everlovingful It really depends on what your actually doing the level of detail, and the meshes involved. the primary body should be one mesh, other things like shirts, armor ect should be made as separate objects, then combined into one mesh later as needed.

  • @skardart Thanks=)

  • amazing

  • That is a really sick looking character. I want to see a game with that thing as the main character :P

  • this is awesome looking model! may i ask what its for and what the poly count on him is?

  • @cbc911 I have a few versions one is just under 8k, the one in the video is just under 22k

  • @skardart very impressive

  • Do you work on video games? How much do you charge for someone to have custom characters made for them? I have a video game script and I was told it is fantastic but having charcter images behind it would push it along more. I would surly give you credit.

  • this is truly impressive, i had zbrush but just couldn't get things the way i wanted. shame.

  • The bottom of his staff looks like the Tech N9ne symbol

  • how much does this program cost? is it more than 3ds max?

  • @AndYeaah

    Alot.

    As you can see at:

    store.digitalriver(DOT)com/DRHM/store

Autodesk Maya, depending on what you choose to do as far as your configuration, will run you anywhere from roughly 3500 dollars, to over 4000 dollars USD.

You can also get a free 30 day trial, I've not used it, so I'm not sure if it's the equivalent of the full version, or if you can just renew it over and over like with other programs, but it's definitely a start if you really want to use Maya.

  • @AndYeaah

There are other similar (albeit arguably inferior) modeling programs out there available for free such as Blender.

Though I say "arguably inferior" I mean that in the sense that Maya, in my very limited experience with the program, is much easier to pick up and take to than Blender, but that's all personal preference and opinion.

In all fairness, Blender is every bit of capable of making amazing 3D works of art as Maya, Maya is just set up differently.

  • @AndYeaah

It will turn out much easier on your pocket if you choose to master a free program like blender than to dish out the thousands of dollars it will cost to get Maya.

(I found out since my first post that you can get Maya for ~500 dollars/year, as well, and the 3500-4000 price is without subscription and you keep it forever)

    You can get blender at:

    blender(DOT)org/download/get-blender/

This brings an end to my long-winded response, and I wish you the absolute best :)

  • @AndYeaah

Also, it costs roughly the same amount of 3ds max, give or take a couple hundred dollars.

  • im not insane enough to do that

  • Am I the only one who heard the Leo and Satan theme song through out this whole clip?

  • How hard is this to do? I want to try it but I'm not sure if ill get anywhere with it. I've used blender and I can make scenery with it, but I'm crap at humans/living things. Also, where did you learn to do that? Its awesome!

  • @jordannw2010 I went to college to learn the basics of modelling, classical animation, and fundamental art. It basically takes alot of practise and hard work. Just keep at it and you'll get better.

  • did you learn all this yourself ? If you didnt can you recommend a guide or something, please. And did you go to a university or something?

  • @bgainable Most people now.. me included lern 3D shizzles really .. I mean REALLY fast!!.

There are so meny guides and tutorials on the net ..

When I started .. I had an Amiga 500 with 1 MB of RAM.. And a test render took 30 minutes.. if I raytraced it..

severeal hours (It was Imagine I used at the time)

Using blender atm (after a few years break) and I find that the most annoying thing is loosing all the basic models I used and perfected over many years as building blocks for any scene..

  • @bgainable I went to college to learn the basics of modelling, classical animation, and fundamental art. You can find lots of tutorilas on the net, and if you can find modeling books by Antony Ward, thay are pretty straight forward

  • Do you prefer Maya over 3DSMax 2011?

  • @TheMadSackboys I've never really used max, so maya

  • good models but the textures made them look kinda low quality

  • what programme is this?

  • @bru83549 Maya, Z-brush, and PhotoShop

  • dude this is heellllllll gooood

  • 5:15 5:29 5:48 DDDAAAYYYYUUUMMMMMM!!!!!

  • 4:21 dat ass

  • so beautiful models and so bad texturing..

  • THAT IS SICK....I am learning right now on Maya....O.o I can not make stuff like those!!! How do you do them??????

  • im only 12 and i was just trying to learn how to make things like this but would i be capable of using this software?

  • @Bulldogxplaya I don't see why not, all you need are the programs and practice

  • @skardart Im 12 also, its pretty hard, but im getting used to it, just cant see to be able to animate. -.-

  • @jjnguyenn use cinema 4d, easy as pie for animating!

  • @Bulldogxplaya im 12 too, but im completely stuck on making people with cinema 4d

  • @Bulldogxplaya ikr

  • Try Blender

  • @shinzohotoroki

For Hell No... Shut the fucking Mouth....

  • @Bulldogxplaya but also keep in mind the programs cost ALOT of money...haha. in my oppinion at least

  • @Bulldogxplaya

    No, U need Cinema 4D and Z-Brush...

    But first Photoshop....

HEY!!! I´m Using Photoshop since my 12 years old, and C4D since my 14 years, And well, I´m 19 years old... ts Possible :)

  • @Bulldogxplaya it will be a long life of torrenting and illegal downloads of thousand dollar software....... but yes. Follow your dreams and screw over companies like autodesk in the process!

  • @Bulldogxplaya Ofcourse, anyone can use it! even a 10 year old, you just have to practice and follow a LOT of tutorials!

  • @Bulldogxplaya Yeah, easily! In fact I am as old as you and learnt in a MONTH! Check out my channel for tutorials on a FREE 3d software called Blender!

  • @Bulldogxplaya hey kid im only fifteen and im using software like this (not as highe quality) but still try blender... for scenery try Bryce from Daz Studio... i think they have a free version you can download... when i was your age i wanted to learn this kind of stuff but never had the right resources... so i had to settle for MS Paint and Movie maker.... anywho... keep at it...

  • @MrOceans343 Their is must comparisons between us! :/

  • @Bulldogxplaya You can do anything you set your mind too young man. You would be amazed at the things only 12 years have done.

  • @Bulldogxplaya probably not, its better to start off making simple things like chairs in blender for example to get used to the 3d environment then when you get to a more mature age and start specializing then more advanced techniques and programs will be that much easier to learn

  • @Bulldogxplaya hey im 12 too and i make things more rylistic than this ... sorry if i have wrong spelling my real language is not english ... and i said u can make nice stuff if you try

... come on dont be a silly its a great skill u make your own peoples and animals and monster oh my gosh ... lol kidding

hey if you started making 3D characters tell me from this Email

    wall_chasm@yahoo.com

i want lots of characters for my game

    and ...

if u learned too much i have a group u can join :

  • I actually like blenders ui better, but I have only just started in Maya

  • Im making a portfolio to get into a university. Do I need to have models of this quality? Considering how I want to go to university to learn how to do this, I am not sure.

  • @Aniamaze I wouldn't think so, I didn't have any experience with any of the programs before I started it in school. I'm sure it would be beneficial. I did have previous schooling in classical animation, so i did have some drawing skills. You should check the university requirement for the classes you want to take, it should tell you

  • @Aniamaze hey I'm in school right now for 3d animation the only thing you need is your diploma or at-least at the school I'm going to and its one of the best. Vancouver Film School

  • Does it cost any money to do what's done in this video?

  • @TheChannel4Laughter well you'll need a suitable computer, and the programs can be downloaded, plus time

  • @TheChannel4Laughter

The author here uses Maya, photoshop and Z-brush which are expensive software. However there is some free alternatives. I'll just post names and send you a private messages for more details. If anyone wishes to know more, just poke me and I'll give you the info.

Modeling : Maya/3DS(Student version only), Blender

    Sculpting : Mudbox, sculptris, Blender

    photo manipulation : GIMP, paintnet

  • @MrWilliamSide There always Torrents :p

  • Hello Derek! My name is HollyMari and I am a recent Maya 2011'er (just bought it), and a soon to be owner of Autodesk Maya. I was wondering if it was okay if I emailed you, or you could email me with your rates for creating characters that can be used (rigged) for animations in Maya. I thank you in advance and am REALLY excited to be working with you.

    HollyMari Andrieson Holly_andrieson@yahoo.com

  • @zanidy13 My rates depend on the level of work up needed for the character, some characters would require less time than others, while more detailed characters would require more. Usually starting at $500.

  • @skardart you mean you sell a model for 500$??????

  • @botukasLT A custom model, yeah

  • any ideas how to make maya 2012's interactive split tool act more old school? it's snapping is driving me nuts

    thanks

  • @1038892 sorry, no, I still use 2009. Have you checked the tool options?

  • @1038892 Easy, if you dont like to play with the options, just swtich to the old bly shift+right click -> split and select the old school split tool or play with the interactive split tool box and low the values.

  • Can you post poly counts please?

  • What do you think about blender?

  • @AndrewLLFrazier dunno, I've never used it

  • @AndrewLLFrazier i think the consensus is that blender has a more complex ui than maya whereas maya has a customisable workflow which makes life easier. Still blender is free and open source so there are heaps of mods for it and custom toolsets so i guess its just personal preference.

  • Can you use the models for 3d games?

  • you should do this job for some video games and movies coz you are very talented im not joking!

  • Yep, I do Draw my own Characters

  • @skardart Did you draw your own characters?

  • After you design your 3D model, how do you make it move and with what software please someone let me know I would really appreciate it ; )

  • @DragonBallENR I used Maya for my animation

  • Really nice models. I love the dragon glove, especially they way you have chosen to texture it as well as the colour pallet. I'm doing a 3d degree at the mo, inspiring stuff.

  • cool stuff

  • Hey what is better for character models and such? 3Ds Max or Maya?

  • Check my channel for a face created in a professional way...that means; not made out of a cube but out multanimationiple planes. Please rate and subscribe!

  • What did u use to create that and once uve created the model can u animate it? e.g make it sit then stand up to jump . - :)

  • @TurtleGoneBad I used Maya, Z-Brush and Photoshop, and yes ther are Animatable

  • hey man good work truly inspiring

  • i use 3ds max photoshop and UDK i love ur work ur way better then me

  • @RYnYzZ just keep woking on it and learning and i'm sure you'll get things looking as good as you want

  • What video card do you have?

  • @darkdudironaji I have got an Nvidia Quadro FX 1700 video card

  • @skardart 2 more questions.

    1. So you did all of this with a low grade workstation card. Can you animate them smoothly?

2.I have Maya, and I'm considering buying zbrush. If I do that, would I be able to model in Zbrush and animate in maya? I have a FirePro V3750

  • @darkdudironaji had no problems animating, had a lower card when i made the demo. If you have a better one I don't see you having any problems.

  • @skardart thx

  • omg hi man. this is exactly what im looking for. my passion is computers and i love art. I have come first in my grade 2 years in a row and im 15. Can u plz upload a tutorial or something because i want to model characters like world of warcraft and stuff

  • Awesome models...

  • great fn ass.

  • how many times did u spend here?

  • @latangadelavieja I don't remeber, I was a noob

  • @skardart if this was when you were a noob, I'd like to see you when your good.

  • dat ass

  • whats better 3ds or zbrush

  • @boom911boom depends on what your doing, both programs are good, 3ds for lowpoly, z-brush for high poly, learn both

  • @boom911boom you create the 3d model with 3ds max, maya, SoftImage XSI, then export it to a sculpting package such as mudbox or zbrush to create a super high polygonal version of the mesh, then export the normal map from the high poly version back to the low poly version inside of max, giving the illusion that the low poly model has the same detail as the high polygon version. learn the basics of normal and bump maps and you shall understand what I am talking about :D good luck!

  • your normal map is pretty good horns could have more detail though maybe like elephant horns but that aint texture was blah thats like gameboy quality

  • hey nice work, was wondering you can give some feed back on mine.

    Search Blood metal saga

  • Nice, very Drenaei ;)

  • @Jasonsummersgill Thanks. Had the Drenaei comparison before, even though I didn't really know what it was when i made the model

  • @skardart: What programs did you use?

  • pentagram -.-'

  • @tenegon old logo, more for my Heavy Metal, don't worry I'm not a satanist.

  • im only watching this cos i want to work for valve

  • Holy cow, how long does it take you to make such a model?

  • @PICLex I don't remember how long it took me to to do those, cause I was a noob at the time, and worked on them during my off hours. But depending on the level of work up It could take any where from a week to about a month.

  • @skardart you were a noob when you did this? Im a noob it took me twenty minutes to figure out how to use the paint brush

  • nice 3:25

  • Excellent work, truly inspiring

  • can maya make video games?? like you can make them move with your arrow keys and press buttons that make them do stuff.

  • @LuckyCharmKitty As far as I know, Maya is for the creation of the 3d assests that go into a game, What you're thinking about is a editable game engine like the Unreal engine. But their may be a an add on to maya, but I've never heard of one.

  • @LuckyCharmKitty blender is a 3d model maker that also makes it possible to make a game with them

  • @LuckyCharmKitty You should look into c++ and as skardart said, an engine.

  • Liked the first one, thought the second one was kinda mediocre (both the idea and the execution).

  • Nice and perfect combinations

  • Hi there its nice. How much time did it take to create one ot these characters? Thanx

  • @freeedom22 Ican't remeber exactly how long it took me to do these two as I was a noob at the time, But depending on the level of work-up needed in a character it could take any where from a week to about a month to complete one.

  • @skardart, do you find modeling in Maya like learning how to draw all over again? I have been drawing for a long time but I feel instead of drawing what I see in front of me. With Maya I'm trying to find what I want squeezing an pushing shapes together. Moving vertex's etc.

  • @x900lbGorillax I never really thought about it but, looking back I guess I did. You just have to practice and find the way that works best for you. If you haven't already you shoud learn A high poly detailing program like

Z-brush, or mudbox. I use Z-brush for high poly detailing and sculpting. It definatly has more of a "drawing" feel to it.

  • @skardart, Thank you for the reply an help! I will try that out!

  • @x900lbGorillax it is often said that with 3D modeling you dont even need to be able to draw a stick figure its that different and does require completely new learning even for a seasoned artist.

  • @IIZODIIAC, I see, wow! Yeah I kinda felt that being inside of Maya trying to learn. It does feel very different and completely new approach for me. Thanks for the comment!

  • @x900lbGorillax yeah its like drawing a clay pot and then trying to sculpt it, but i would assume that artist would have more creativity so i guess its a bonus working with 3D art tools.

  • Hello, I like your stuff, I want to put together a small team and get a small demo of this game idea i have made. i would really like your help, im goin to keep searching for ppl and really try to get this made..because i think its amazing and will change the history of gaming plz watch this...../watch?v=SF22hwvAPdI

anyone out there that knows ANYTHING about making games plz contact me so i get a small team going, thanks

  • Hey, did you post a video on how to transfer the normal map from the high poly model onto the low poly model? I'm about ready to start texturing a model ive worked on for 6 months but im worried about transferring the normal map from one model to another like that

  • @CokeSupply sorry no, but i used the z-mapper in z,brush

  • Where's the rock and roll?

  • thanks

  • i will not enter my text there!

  • How did you get started on B'rolock. I'm relatively new to 3D modeling and i opened Maya the other day in Scivis and i was lost (i've only used 3DMax) i understand how to do the texture mapping to a degree but i'm curious about actually making the character as a 3D model basically getting them to that point you think you might could explain that to me cause my teacher is about as experienced as i am and i'd really like to get some ideas turned in to 3D models

  • @axeamnas He actually started out just as a 3d doodle, hacked together from other models, but i ended up finishing him. Usually I start with good research, concepts and model sheets.

  • fing the user gaudencez for Maya tutorials

  • Is Z-Brush Free And If Not Know Any Sites That Are?

  • thats amazing....... are you making a video game, if u r, wat will be the name of it, i would definatly buy it!!!!!

  • i am wanting to put something like this in my movie is there any chance you could import this into a ovie and animate it?

  • great work.... for what did u use photoshop????

  • @Betoladodgers texturing and normal map clean up

  • @Betoladodgers xDDD so.... dumb..

  • how do you do those high poly graphics, i only know low poly modeling. please someone help me
