To leafsfann9917, It is all about balance on the ski. Take a lesson from an instructor you like and who concentrates on teaching proper balance. Just like learning to ride a bike, once you have the balance all the other techniques follow. It is just not possible to learn in the reverse. You will find you progress much faster and have much more fun if you will give this a try....Good Luck
Point your skis downhill, then do a sharp turn edging your skis into the slope until the skis point upward slightly. You should come to a complete stop.
@leafsfan9917 Yeah I'm beginning to ski and I have been having the same issues. I am getting the turns but I can't seem to stop! I have tried this but I just end up either turning without slowing down very much or catching an edge and eating shit lol. Am I not leaning into the slope enough? Or could it be an issue with the spacing of my skis?
4:21 True True True. I have bad form for I am a new skier at the age of 29. I am in reasonable shape but I get exhaust so fast due to my form. My goal this year to have better form and Learn Powder skiing
I find it helps leaning forward, especially, off piste, I find it helps me balance better, I've never been told to lean forward as much as it shows on here.
You should not lean that forward, but you must put pressure on the front of the boot (and the skis), so that you can steer. The rest is keeping your balance while the front of the boots is under pressure.
depends on the type of snow your skiing on say for instance deep snow you need to keep your balance more to the back or centre but skiing regulary on a prepared sloped your shins should definatly be touching the front on the boot
it also depends on what kind of skiis you are using.. in this video they use the older straight skiis where the bindings are attached further to the back of the skii. as a result you would then have to lean forward a bit to keep the balance to the center of the ski, unlike the newer skiis where the bindings are more or less on the centerr of the skii, and you therefore don't need to lean forward to keep the balance centered.
I am a ski instructor and thought it would be fun to see how they ski/teach. Worst tip ever, "pretend you are a bouncing ball, and mover your body up and down." That is horrible for skiing, you want to take all upper body movement out. PSIA would frown on that tip, maybe even scowl.
well, I don't think they wanted everyone to follow that tip. It sounded to me more like that tip was specifically for people who always stay totally upright. Sometimes exaggerating helps a little in order to initially learn something or break a bad habit. I can't wait to ski again and apply some of this stuff.
i may be worng but if ur new to sking u want to bonce to help keep u steady and when u get better u keep body still. but ive only been sking 2 years so yh
This is a good and wellpresented series for anyone learning to ski, period. Some years ago french instructors tried to ban danish instructors from their resorts, but that was only because they felt threatened by the talented and friendly danes. That may be the cause of some of the more "serious looking" bad comments from "professionals".
I am starting to shoot some kayaking videos and I'm trying to learn how to achieve unique camera angles. From about 2:33 to 2:55 the camera shot following the skier appears to be from a much higher angle than any others, higher even than a very tall person could achieve. I would like to know how that segment was shot. Was the camera being held overhead on an extension pole or from much higher up on the slope through a zoom? Thanks again.
I am very glad I saw all the mistakes I do and I knew about but didnt see what it looks like..The whole video was like...haha..that´s me:)Now I just really have to try to do it the way skiing is supposed to be and not to be stubborn and do it my way
krunchie63 be more specific in your criticism it may help us to be better skiers. or better yet produce your own video! seriously these ARE the best ski vids on youtube so if you can do better please show us.
These videos have helped me better than any thing else so far. As a fairly new skier I found my faults by watching these videos and have since corrected them. Great videos. Thank you.
The biggest barrier I have seen recently to skiing are these videos. I spend all season trying to repair the misunderstandings my pupils arrive with from instruction just like this. Sorry - it's hopeless.
I watch this video, and I believe I understand very quickly why it is that what I do results in the "bad skier" traits shown here. This helps me by telling me how to recognize when I am exhibiting those traits, and what to do to fix them....this seems like good advice.
I have a goal of hiking and throwing down on the back wall at Breck this year, so I hope I'm making the right improvements - can't afford a guide!
Great videos. I watched them all. I learned a lot.

Yes, don't agree with leaning forward. Should we stay center on the skis?

the newer skis ARE good, but they don't do the work for you; you still have to lean forward. unless in deep powder, leaning forward is critical...
