  • It's a poor recording.

  • google the poem and the author will pop up

  • Does anyone know who wrote the poem to this piece?

  • Does anyone know who wrote this poem? I cannot find it anywhere.

  • damn, the pianist on the right is so hot!!!!!!

  • 1:47 is the best part :P

  • @squishfly1 agreed! it's really what it would look like if an elephant tried to do a jig....slightly awkward, hoping no one is watching!

  • hehehe The guy playing double bass reminds me of an animal

  • I like the unneeded shifts. 'Just shows that by practicing you can have more fun with your music while performing instead of worrying about other things.

  • the bass is truly as beautiful as the cello nj

  • I'm a cellist; and even though I play with a transcription of this piece is really fun to play it gives a lot of space to expression and show to the audience you're having fun. :D I love to play saint-saëns' the swan and the elephant.

  • A real double o agent must also act as a fine reader sometime. Great job mr. Bond.

  • I remember when I frist got to play dis song as. 7th grader now I'm a sophmore n can play da mess put dis song

  • what bassist docent use german bow?!

  • German bows suck DICK.

  • Time to let the Bass shine! : )

  • Is that Roger Moore?!!

  • @surfcello I was about to ask the same...

  • Hey guys don't be so hard on him, basses don't get alot of solos, I'd be happy too!

  • Great performance. I would have expected more trumpets.

  • someone seems to be enjoying himself :D

  • Followed by kangaroos xD

  • Is this a 3/4 Bass, or 4/4 bass?

  • @FilmComposeRaHoppe It's in 3/8

  • @RAZubieta Really? Couldn't have been wronger :D But It still appears to be really huge. :D

  • lol u love his sparklying shirt, he can figure skate too i bet

  • musicians are mimes who speak through their instrument. or at least i think so

  • Pretty awesome :D

  • Sounds great. Though is really strange why he sometimes goes from the A string Bflat to the E string Bflat and then back.

  • Our orchestra is inserting Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer in the middle of Carnival of the Animals for christmas laughs

  • Am I crazy for thinking the bassist kinda resembles Doug Bradley?? I think it's the ears...

  • Double bass strikes back

  • I love it when music speaks, this was absolutely charming and adorable!

  • That's the shiniest shirt I've ever seen on a classical bassist. Awesome. :D

  • IS THAT ROGER MOORE? THAT RULES!

  • Dark trailer voice by Sir Roger Moore

    Instrumentalists enjoying the interactive play

Bassist playing every note entirely correct (which, by the way, is extraordinary)

Best performance of this piece I've ever heard.

  • one of the only performances i've seen on youtube that the audience simply laughed at the end instead of applauding, and for very good reason :)

  • 11 people missed the like botton

  • That is some intense/amazing vibrato! I would kill for it.

Fabulous skill, fabulous stage presence. Very very very inspiring.

  • This guy makes me proud that i'm a double bass player.

  • how cuuuuuuute I love how he rolls his eyes :D

  • oh man...i just started playing the bass 2 years ago. i just finished playing capriccio italian, 1812 overture, and themes from symphony 7. (they aren't the original versions, but they are still grade 3 or 4) this guy puts me to shame! haha now i wanna go get the sheet music for this and try to play it! =P

  • @aidenstiger you'll find it in the Suzuki bass school book 3

  • @aidenstiger It's not overly difficult but it's beautiful.

  • rofl XD

  • excellent!

  • I played this for my grade 3 piano. Watching the professionals playing it makes mine sound rubbish!!!!! :D

  • He makes it look so fun and easy (:

  • i remember playing this in 7th grade. haha i was good. e flat major ftw.

  • i am practicing this piece for a solo concert, so im lookign at professionals play this and i hav to say, this guy is 1 of the best ive seen ... absolutely!! :D

  • what an amazing bassist

  • There's not a lot of really awesome pieces for bass like this out there which is half the reason that this piece totlly ROCKS!!

  • And the hemiones?

  • This is a great piece for bass guitar! Try it out bass players!

  • Bass ftw ^_^ I can play this. Good fun to play.

  • that was lovely!

    great musician!

  • Great Stuff!

  • haha we aer playn this now at our orcheser and i play bass ^^

  • that's a jolly bassist

  • That is one sparkly elephant

  • Excellent!

  • man if I could of done it all again I would have had my mom sign me up for bass instead of violin when I was 7 lol

  • Stacey Watton is great!! Saw him performing yesterday in Holland. With Igudesman & Joo, very funny!

  • when we played this we had the tubas play the melody

  • who's the performer on the bass? The best I've seen yet.

  • Stacy Watton

  • You just know a performer is enjoying himself when he's making faces and being goofy. XD

Nice theme + funny playing = epic.

  • @DeltaSilver88 I wouldnt describe it as "being goofy". Im pretty sure he is feeling PRECISELY what he is playing. Its the connection to the instrument and the piece that makes his facial expressions so accurate to the mood of the song.

  • @DeltaSilver88 Couldn't agree more, watching the artist enjoy playing makes the whole experience overall just more enjoyable for the audience as well.

  • @DeltaSilver88

That ''being goofy and making faces'' is called Expression. Yes! It has a word!

  • Em - you surely know that's Roger Moore making the introduction (amongst others a famous James Bond actor)...?

    TheAkelei

  • nah i just thought he looked a bit gay...and sounded. i was in the mood to bitch about people at that time :/

  • Absolutely sure!! He's performed a series of concerts like this together with Janine Jansen. Great duo :)

  • my favorite one of all

  • I personally believe this piece would be even better if played on a bass tuba. I saw a performance of this at the Proms this year, and the piano just drowned out the double bass. No danger of that with a bit of brass!

  • love this vid we are learning about the carnival of the animals in school too

  • that bass has got a real rounded sound

    beautilful bass

  • I'm in year 8 and i'm doing the same peice on double bass

    very, very hard

  • Wow thats awesome..i gotta play this on my trombone at school and i didnt quite no how it went :D

  • although im not a fan of classical music.... this really helped with my music project 4 skool !

  • Amazing:

Guy Tuneh made a great comment to this video, although his Video present this work in a very uniqe new light...

  • 1:47 lol. he played this really good

  • I love when it looks like the musicians are truly enjoying themselves and the music....beautiful!

  • I saw this concert last night and our bassist who's still in high school was amazing

  • Best playing I could possibly find.

  • this fits so perfectly :D!

  • I love how expressive he is!!

  • i played this piece as a final exam...i aced the exam but i know i made a few mistakes compared to this gentleman

  • first time i heard this was in music in high school =D

  • I remember this from Milo & Otis!

  • I love this!

  • 1:43 and 1:46

omg i love the way this guy plays these parts hahaha

  • alguem teria as partituras do piano ?

  • One of the few melodic double bass solos, almost everything else written for the bass is either very percussive or at the extremes of its range. It's pieces like this that remind me why I play bass, the rest of the time I find myself wishing I was a cellist.

  • Comment removed

  • I see what you mean, but you have to consider what the actual song is about. In certain pieces going to the extreme ranges does make sense in the context of the song and not only there to show off (f.e.:Bottesini-Elegy) such as here it stays in the low range to make those elephants dance!

  • manica di sfacciati...

  • the base player is cute but i wont to know what he keeps looking up for?

  • I think he's too engrossed in his music.

  • look at the other movements and youll see the people like to facially express their music."pianists" is a good example

  • does any one know where i can find the poem at the begining of this vid

  • plays nice..

dunno if the glitter really serves the music.

  • beautiful;)

  • aww he doesn't slide but still great performance

  • i like it better without the glissando/ slide. I find it gives it a more refined sound. But it sounds good either way.

  • it has not to be refined, it's an elephant!! and the glissando it's an imitation of them

  • Maybe elephants are supposed to be regal, elegant creatures?

  • it sounds really cool on cellos 2! this is amazin! i played this in a concert 2day.

  • his bass is amazing! i play this piece after 5-6 months of playing the duble bass. this piece is PERFECT for the double bass. I LOVE THIS PIECE!

  • i think the pianist is cute

  • im playing this for grade 5 bass, my 1st bass exam ive only been playing for a month. Ive played cello before though. This bassist is brilliant.

  • I'm doing this for my grade 5 too! Wise move to switch- bass is soo much better :)

  • geez that bass sounds amazing

  • ce theme vient de Berlioz c'est " la danse des sylphes" de Berlioz mais jouée avec un tempo d'escargot .

This song come from Berlioz , it's the " danse of sylphes" but played with snail tempo.

  • haha he's got dumbo ears!!

  • This is really great. The bassist is gorgerous! What a feeling and sence humor!

  • im doing this as a double bass exam for university its a good piece not overly complicated but great!

  • i can't watch this without laughing, not at his expressions although they are quite funny, but at how low and grumbley a double bass is!!!!! lol

  • after reading your comment you got me lol

  • very sexy double bass player *thumbs up*

  • the players expressions are so great!!! We're doing the carnival of the animals at school

  • I love the player's expressions!

  • i am doing this as a cello solo for my exam :)

  • I love how the bass doesn't really "speak" like the rest of the string family; it more just mumbles.

  • im not being rude are your mocking the double bass?

  • good

  • I love this one especially cause I play the bass and we never have the melody!

  • i hear you there

  • I totally agree.

  • same here

  • i am doing this as a solo its pretty hard

  • On what instrument?

  • double bass

  • Does anyone know where I could get a recording of this and all the other pieces in the entire performance?

    Thanks

  • This must be the only tune I know played on double bass

  • Why do bass players feel the need to 'hug' the bass when playing low notes? I am learning to play the bass, and I am having the same problem...I also tend to lean the bass away from me on the 'high' notes...

  • it seems easier to get a good tone when you're at a better angle, i tend to do the same thing but i don't see anything wrong with it

  • how many years have you been playing? ive been playing for almost 7 years and i tend to pull the bass away from me when i play E but other then that i dont pull away unless i want to do a big finsh

  • I think that piece would work nicely on a tuba...

  • lovly music

  • Why so critical? Obviously having fun, and great performance

  • Roger Moore is the fuckin MAN!

  • i never thought of a double bass as a solo instrument unti8l now

  • I don't see why that is. All strings can stand alone.

  • Im not sure. Its not loud enough unless your playing on an amazing instrument.

  • Basses are actually pretty loud, especially in the lower range. Waay louder than violins, for example.

I think there's not a lot of solo repertoire because of the technical limitations of the instrument and the lack of well-know virtuosos.

Awesome playing, both Mihaela and Stacey. I wish my bass tone was even a bit like Stacey's. It's kind of the complete opposite, unfortunately. Love this video!

  • yeah bass istuments go hard and im playing this on double bass it really fun and i only been playing for half a yaer

  • yay that was so much fun to watch I love it when musicions really go for it he looked like he was having such a good time and the pianist was smiling through the whole of it to :)

  • whats the level of this piece?

  • i believe this specific part of carnival of the animals in probably an intermediate level piece due to the lack of instruments in its tempo.

I've played this in a full band with brass reid and strings and it wasn't very hard

  • Shut the fuck up!

    He is not a begginner

  • its not beginner, considering the range of notes used

    i'd say its about grade 5 or 6, i can't remember, i haven't played it in a while
