MGM released four albums in total in this series: "The Legend Lives Anew: Hank Williams & Strings", "I Won't Be Home No More", "More Hank Williams & Strings" and "Hank Williams & Strings, Vol. III". Not sure what the order of release was. One reviewer at that time said something along the lines of "this album is like painting a mustache on the Mona Lisa". See my other comment as well.
This was MGM Records' attempt at copying the "Nashville Sound" created by Chet Atkins at RCA in the early '60s, and reinvented Eddy Arnold and "Tennessee" Ernie Ford as Easy Listening artists. In the '60s when they released this, MGM didn't have many country artists because their biggest sellers were The Animals, Herman's Hermits and Connie Francis. Hank was always their biggest country act.
REMINDS ME OF THE JERRY LEE LEWIS VERISON OF YOU WIN AGAIN.. HANK SR. IS AND WILL ALWAYS BE THE BEST COUNTRY SINGER EVER. O WHAT ID DO TO GO BACK IN THE 50'S TO WATCH HIM
my dad had this record, and i have it now somewhere. believe me, if you like hank sr., this is a good album to have. the whole album is good. there are back up singers too, and its a nice record.
I have the album "Hank Williams and More Strings". Some think that these modern overdubs are a travesty but I like them as much as the original steel and fiddle. Also I believe that more people would listen to Hank Williams if the songs were modernized as in this album. Some folks won't watch a black and white movie but they will watch a colorized version.
Hank is best played raw and straight as he himself intended. These MGM albums are pure junk.
