@coventry125 i respect your opinion but i want you to relize that if you wanna become a real bassist you have to branch out musical wise. if you make him your idol everything else you try to play will be harder. itll be like learning all over again. just look into the musicans i gave you.
@coventry125 no legend. hes mediocer im sorry. i mean maybe if he played fretless id have more respect. and i was a huge blink fan and mark was my influence BUT i branched out found better. like flea or jaco or cliff burton or victor bailey or frank bello or hell even tom araya from slayer
@Toolsquatch thats why i said or even tom araya. and half the stuff mark does is "mirrior" thats what they did in punk. and if no punk there would be no pop punk like blink. so even if tom does "mirrior" atlest he does it fast and brutal. btw its called following
Yeah, but that's ALL Tom does: at least Mark has the balls to deviate instead of mirror 24/7, how is it fast and brutal if you can't even hear him? *shrug*
I love mark but he's just an average bassist. Many justify him by saying blink's music limit's him but Simon Gallup or Peter Hook would do a hundred times a better job than him.
@PrisonBreakFilms ¿? This is punk man! (or at least pop punk) you`re not supossed to be good but original & inspirational, for example Dee Dee Ramone wrote kick ass simple bass lines!
@Leojk87 oh absolutely, but what i'm trying to say is if you put a guy like peter hook or simon gallup in blink, who also play quite simply, they would do a way better job than mark hoppus
@PrisonBreakFilms Well those 2 are great bassists with simple lines its right, but i think mark has very fun lines to play, even tough most of them are just root notes.
Hey guys, my name's Josh, I'm a 17 year-old bassist and I've been playing bass for 3 years in a band I'm in. We're influenced greatly by Blink and it'd be awesome if you guys checked on of my band's videos on my page. Thanks!
@182AVAFan182 Tonight (literally an hour ago) I bought a black fender squier precision bass, really cool with a cherry red pick guard, cant wait to jam to some blink :D
@182AVAFan182 hey i had i squier when i first started and i dident een know u were supposed to start out with one but now i got me a fender jazz special
FUCK YOU 0bassface0, are you??? nope, im not either, but i dont tell people that they suck... i bet i am better at than you. i can play all these songs on bass.
Anways now i know what the the third song is, its Mutt, from "Enema of The State" album.
Nice choices of his amazing bass playing talents, by the way the beggining is Carousel, 2nd song is Josie, third song i forgot LOL, 4th song is Man Overboard, 5th song is Online Songs, 6th song something from Plus 44, 7th song is something from Pluss 44 too
well yeah because Rancid's got ska influence, really if you count sublime as punk they'd have the best bassist. Mike Dinrt is a really b adass bassist too, much better than Mark Hoppus in my opinion
@JiggleyPuff95 yeah green day rocked like that (they are my fav band). though i gotta give tom credit for creating some cool non-power chord riffs/licks
@Guitars165 I love Mark and Blink, but Mark isn't the best bassist, his lines are easy, but I personally find simple basslines to be much more funner to play than the harder stuff.
the thing is... theres a million people in the world that can play any difficult song no problem. And anyone whoe pplays this long every day of their lives will have finger strength develop and be able to play hard stuff its just his choice to play what he does. and Some stuff is really cool! anyway
I love mark and btw give him a ton of technical skill credit for playing the intro to man overboard and singing it!
As with most bassists and guitarists, what you hear in their commercial music is only the tip of the iceberg. Mark is i dont think better than Victor Wooten and those people but he can play wayy better stuff than what you hear in blink and +44 songs, just look at some clips in the studio to see. also he is perfect as the bassist for blink, they have such good band chemistry and that makes it all work
That's what I said in one of my reactions man, that he can make moeny whit it and I can't't. and it's not that I hate Hoppus or something but he's just very limited in his bass skills. And that's a fact nobody can deny. But he is a good stage performer and a reliable singer.

A bassist's job in a band is usually to play the rhythm. It, and the drums, make the backbone of a band which the lead, usually guitar, plays over.

Mark hoppus is a great bass player thats all there is too it . He is a great songwriter very successful producer, awesome live, he can sing , he has so much to offer to the musical world and thats what makes him a great bass player, one of the best . Im sure if he was selfish enough he could focus on personal skills and blow us all away like all these no names people come up with. but he has different ways of being a great musician. So please grow the fuck up
