  • can the root be undone?

  • I was concerned about rooting my phone because I had read so many comments from people who had problems and bricked their phone while trying, but really wanted to get rid of the Sprint bloatware. I followed the instructions here and on the other video about installing a different kernel and everything worked perfectly. I was running Gingerbread EL30, Firmware 2.3.6 and had no problems. Thanks.

  • When i try to install the package it says install aborted can you please help i will subscribe and rate

  • Thanks bud a noob proof method! Greatly appreciated

  • If u just need a wifi tether app and dont want root then just download foxfi app in market

  • Thank You for the video, it worked just fine for me:) I was wondering if it is necessary to update to the latest build of ACS or CWM? can i use CWM5 instead of ACS for this particular root? Just wondering for the future. Thanks again!!!

  • @thespunone71 Either or works!

  • @qbking77 Another question, the wifi doesn't want to connect to the same router it has been connecting to. Amy suggestions please:)

  • @bm21081 Do you have drivers installed on yoru PC?

  • now my wifi wont connect? is this related to the process i used to root the phone? or maybe the tether app i have..

  • GOT IT!. THANK YOU SO MUCH NOT SURE WHAT I CAN DO WITH THIS i only needed rooting for a wifi tether! im sure i will learn more about this and what i can do with it

  • i connect my device to put these files on it and my device isnt being seen by my PC..i had it connected a little while ago and the PC showed it connected. ive been connecting and disconnecting the usb numerous times selecting the mass storage option and still no device is seen on the PC

  • @dkbluedvls77 nevermind, im a noob and had to update my driver

  • you awesome dude

  • cant get it to work...

  • Your videos work great, I have had to replace my phone 6 times now and every time I follow your lead I get supper user....thanks for the great vids!

  • Any links on how to do this on a macbook?

    Thanks

  • YES mine only took 7 seconds

    HAHA KING

  • eveyrthing is good till the point where i reboot the phone and try to instal su zip from sd card it keeps on saying "cant mount sd card" help please.

  • @dajian88 Take off your back cover and pull your SD card. Then put it back in and standard reboot. Don't let the phone boot up! Immediately hold the CWM keys to boot back into ClockworkMod and you should be good.

  • @daRKiERAWR i tried that didnt work. any other tips? and thanks for the reply.

  • i hesitated for a while to do this but finally found a good video very easy. Thanks!!!

  • Thanks, this is a very helpful video. Just to clarify, are these the only steps you need to follow to root the Epic right out of the box, along with the linked video in the description? Thanks for your help.

  • @jsmbc101 That is correct.

  • @qbking77 my epic is rooted and running 2.3.6 el30. Do I have to unroot to go back the ei22 modem. El30 modem has only given me issue. What's your opinion?

  • @00duce84 No you do not have to unroot, however there is no modem tar you can flash to get the EI22. You will need to Odin in the EC05 modem and then flash the modem delta in CWM. Look for the video "How to flash a modem"

  • Worked flawless. Screen shots, soft resets work great. Now onto wifi tether. Thanks!

  • Thanks qbking77 for the epic 4g root, phone working GREAT!!!

I also have the Samsung Stratosphere..........do you have a video on how to root the stratosphere???

    Many Thanks

  • @rajah80863 Not presently, however others have put out videos and procedures on this. A quick Google will give you lots of results.

  • if it never glows on the bottom and the samsung screen just stays lit up does that mean im bricked? -_-

  • @1GSN1 No. Bricked means it is dead, no power. You are sponged. Get a better cable, redownload the files and try again. You can also google "how to recover a semi-bricked Epic" and follow the instructions in that XDA thread to get you back to stock EL30.

  • its not workin when i connect my phone wat do i do

  • @mavsfan619 Follow the instructions I gave to 1GSN1

  • Help! I followed all directions in the previous video (uploading ther Kernel using Odin), uploaded the ACS Recovery, booted into the ACS Recovery, I installed the Super User ZIP successfully using the ACS Recovery, no errors come up, but Super User is not present on the phone and apps cannot run with Root permissions. Any ideas? D700 on Gingerbread EH17.

  • @TheSandman0925 Try updating Superuser from the market.

  • @TheSandman0925 Same exact problem, did you ever get any help?

  • i just finished both videos and my epic is finally rooted after trying for almost 3 days. thanks for posting this. but at the end when i installed superuser you said busybox would be installed. idk if theres supposed to be an app or something, but my root checker says busybox is not installed. what do i do?

  • @lolahola89 Easiest way is to download Titanium Backup and when you open it, it will let you download and install the latest busybox.

  • My other samsung epic is now rooted...but I had to use a samsung program to remove everything and reinstall it...but it allowed me to root my epic after following your video when it wouldn't before.

  • I have two Samsung epic 4g both on gingerbread 2.3.6. I was able to root one of them by following your video but the other will not allow clockworkmod to be installed. Each time I attempt to download and then restart my phone it shows the triangle with a "!" in it and the droid logo.

  • Im having trouble at the end for some reason i cant find the su zip on my sd card ive put it on there like 4 times any suggestions?

  • @matsuei95 Look in the download folder on your sd card.

  • @Kennyglass123 ya figured it out i kept extracting them into my sd but it works now thanks

  • will downloading odin give me a virus?!?!

  • just did everything and it went right but when i open superuser....no apps are listed. Did i do it wrong??? Superuser v3.07.7 Su binary v3.0.3.2

  • @rajah80863 try and use an app that needs root access

  • @qbking77 YATZEE!!!!

  • @qbking77 I also have samsung stratosphere...do you have a video to root the stratosphere or would this same procedure for the epic 4g work also.

    firmware: 2.3.5 kernel: 2.6.35.7 E12 build #: SCH-I405.E12

  • @rajah80863 Sorry no, and no. However I think Google turns up quite a few links for the Stratosphere with step by step instructions.

  • worked perfectly. u just got another subscriber.

  • Worked perfectly!!!! Great tutorial!

  • Worked like a charm. Thanks :)

  • @QBKING77 WOW, thanks Big Time! It worked just as you your video said, great vid! Im clicking the donate button, and anyone who benefits should too!

  • nevermind coming from an evo that passes to my wife forgot to use camera button to select damn it

  • Thanks for the vids. I rand them on my sprint epic (with keyboard/EL30). All worked well, except my default launcher didnt have phone/contacts/message icons. only the application icons. How can I get the other icons back? I didnt have a custom launcher and dont like launcher pro/etc. any tips? I figure I have to dpwnload the default launcher or such but dont know where/how

  • @cschaffer1 Oh, that's a tough one. If you have a backup from Titanium Backup, restore data to twlauncher. If you have a backup from CWM you can do an advance restore data. Otherwise you will need to reflash your phone. A good alternate that is more customizeable and just as fast is Zeam launcher. I have used that on every ROM.

  • @qbking77 Nevermind, i think i fixed it. the [COM:03] showed up, i clicked start, it rebooted, and said (PASS 0:8)

  • hey i did everything right but it didnt install clockwork mod :(

  • @gamerking2020 You need to follow my other video before this one.. its linked in the description

  • @qbking77 ooo thanks man now it worked u just got another subscriber

  • @gamerking2020 Awesome :)

  • @qbking77 I just did the first video with the kernel thing. now im doing this, this time when i go into download mode on my phone it works, but when i plug it into the computer the, [COM:??] ??= random number, does not show up. and the download link for the ACSrecovery is(ACSRecovery5-1.0.0.0-epic4g.tar.md5) instead of your (ACSRecovery1.0.0.5.tar.md5)

    PLEASE HELP!

  • Good stuff, rooted my EL30 using your method & files, Go ACS!

  • Im rooted , followed parts 1&2 of your videos. had to reboot both the phone and computer , odin froze up after the samsung drivers were slow to load. Had to redownload and reinstall SU zip on the phone, first Zip file on the phone wouldnt install the first time around. . one thing i have a little problem with is that the wireless tether program sends data very slowly and tether program seems unstable. Anyone have any wifi tether suggestions?

    Thanks for great instructions.

  • @pogytime Look into a custom ROM. Some have tethering built in.

  • Thank you for this awesome tutorial.... however I did have one problem with this maybe you should update since the new phones now have 2.3 and it is a little more to it than what you have here... I remembered something from originally rooting my intercept.. first time doing it your way cwm did not stick on reboot... to fix this... on odin do not have reboot selected... once odin is done pull the battery and replace battery now boot in to recovery and there you have it install su and thats it!!!

  • @Wizzdome1 There is a seperate video on how to root EI22 and EL30.

  • @QBKing77 If my epic 4g has been rooted on EI22 then I have except Sprint update. Now it is EL30. Do I have to unroot first then use your method to root again? or I don't have to unroot and just reroot again using Odin for this new El30?

    Thank you

  • @reachkuma Once you accept the OTA and it succeeds you are unrooted.

  • I LOVE U MAN, no homo

  • Thank you. I was able to go from rooted with the Legendary Rom EI22 to Stock to EL30 and rooted again. Now I just have to choose which Rom I want now. You're awesome qbking77!

  • hey, @qbking77 .. i got up to the part where you pressed the camera button , power button , & the volume down button .. options came up but not the ones that you described in the video also when i try to select options the camera button wont allow me to.. is there a specifc reason for it ?

  • @kaseemnasir You need to follow the video I linked to in the description first

  • @qbking77 i followed he other video , im still having trouble

  • Hi. qbking77, I really appreciate your videos and reviews. i have SU permissions but when i get into recovery to attempt to flash a rom it never works and it doesn't seem to be able to delete data. When i try to delete it it just returns back to the previous screen. What's going on?

  • @Sista4rmDaSouth just go to install zip and select pre rom install wipe

  • @qbking77 i tried that too :) no good. I'm running on EL30 trying to flash Syndicated Ice Touch wiz. Could that be an issue? Also, could trying to install ACS recovery again help even though it's already there?

  • @Sista4rmDaSouth this is for the epic 4g.. not the epic 4g touch....

  • @qbking77 so do i follow your vid for the EI29 epic 4g touch root method or the other one?///

  • @qbking77 my phone looks exactly like the one in the vid.

  • rad. rooted for EL30. :) Thanks for this tons.

  • also I am trying to root from stock EL30.does this matter thanks bro

  • help when i plug my phone in i dont get the yellow box with com 14 any idea as y

  • Ok this probably sounds retarded, but the link in your description takes e to a download which shows up with a .tar.tar file extension. When I load it into Odin it shows up as a .tar, not a .tar.md5 like yours does. WTF?

  • @iggy151 That's fine! Just use that one

  • @qbking77 Thanks for a good video, it worked perfectly!

  • i hope this worked

  • @Racosta2010 oh thank god

  • I did this but with CWM 5.X

Works! You are Godsent, QBKING! I did ask in the other video if we can flash a different kernel without losing root. Lmk please!

  • Has the ACS recovery been updated? If so, I am trying to root from stock EL30. Are the files the same as the EI22?

  • @ggoofy5 The rooting method is the exact same as EI22

  • Hey QB, the link to the ACSRecovery seems to be broken. I dont know where to get cwm4 from. can you help?

  • @jpbxking Just use the one under acs recovery tar

  • what is EI22 and EL30 and how can we tell if we are on it?

  • @MCNiiCK Menu, settings, about phone build version

  • i love you. thanks worked. i was kinda confused cuz i had cwm5 1.0.0.0 and SU3.0.7 but everything was fine

  • Worked fine when I really followed directions.

  • 3 fingers, not two. sorry.

  • I just got a brand new epic 4-G from Sprint and have tried many times to install the recovery, but can never get it to go into recovery mode when I hold the volume down and power up. The phone came with EL30. I followed the directions in the previous video where I installed kernel-GB-3a.tar.md5

  • Thank you man im 17 an rooted my first phone thanks alot for theses videos im subbing an liking your vid

  • @2bigcannon Remove the battery. If Odin did not complete it should say failed (1) in Odin. Remove the battery and Odin with it out. If it still gets stuck your cable may be going bad. Get a better cable like one from a Blackberry.

  • Thank You Man!!!

  • hey thanks a lot I can finally get rid of the bloatware on my phone! Great Tutorial

  • Did it and it's working perfectly. Thanks!

  • @JohneKirkwood it works fine. Hundreds of XDA users have used it.

  • @hiphopster01 dont unzip it. flash it as it is with CWM.

  • I have the ACS Recovery install (with blue pic and font) but I dont think the Kernel is working for me cuz i do the odin technique and says passes but when i do the free wifi it says my phone isnt rooted...

it still says Gingerbread EI22 when i look at phone info... message me for what i did wrong

  • All the other times I have tried rooting gingerbread on the epic 4g (not touch), afterwards it hangs on samsung splash screen and I have had to go back to froyo factory settings. I was hoping someone could absolutely confirm that this all works on epic 4g (NOT TOUCH). If so, I'll unroot, upgrade to gingerbread and root with this solution but it is a pain in the butt to get back if this doesn't work. Please someone confirm that it works or does not as I've described above. Thanks!

  • thx you just earned a subscriber, i got everything done but how do i get free apps and games?

  • Hey i just got the samsung galaxy player 5 and am trying to root it but this method doesnt seem to be working. Any suggestions?

  • @altamont731 I'm not too sure how to root that device.

  • lol i got my phone clocked at 1.3 im going to see how long i can keep it going

  • I keep getting fails, I followed the Gingerbread EI22 kernel video, but it fails anyways.

  • @DrBrobot I guess you are talking about Odin. You probably need a better cable like a Blackberry or HTC. Also try it with the battery out. When you plug the phone into the computer quickly put it into download mode and Odin.

  • im stuck in odin "recovery recovery.bin

  • @SynPandaBear This is common with either a bad cable or bad download. Get a better cable such as from a Blackberry, Palm or HTC and try it again. Also try it with the battery and sd card out. Use the computer as the power source. With Odin up connect the Epic without the battery and quickly put it into download mode. If none of this works try redownloading the tar file.

  • Hey, Thanks for this. Phone is working as phone with no prob. but doesn't connect to data on carrier (Sprint), only thru wifi. It's probably in here somewhere but to many comments and I kind of need the data service soon. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  • @MrCompufixer Sorry, forgot to mention I'm on an Epic 4G (slide kb not touch) runing GB EG22 ver.2.3.4

  • @MrCompufixer Try updating your Profile and PRL. Also toggle Flight/Airplane mode. Also check with another Sprint user close by to make sure it is not a down tower.

  • I have stock EI22 on an Epic 4g, and want to end up with CleanGB 1.0.5 (the MTD version). I've read that some versions of CWM aren't compatible with MTD. Which Recovery do I need?

  • @10ring Always best to grab the latest which is CWM 5.0.2.7. After conversion to MTD you will have a custom MTD version of CWM 5.0.2.7 which you must use.

  • So if i root via this tutorial then upgrade to modem EI22 after will I be fine or will I have to do the extra step first?

    Thanks

  • phone wont recognize the SU zip file, im unsure if im putting it onto the SD card right. when i extract it, it seperates the meta inf files and system files, if you understand help?

  • @hiphopster01 Im having the same problem please some 1 respond.

  • @hiphopster01 Dont extract/unzip it, put the zip on the card

  • chris41g.devphone.org/ACSRecovery1.0.0.5.tar.mds and chris41g.devphone.org/ACSRecovery1.0.0.5.zip files are not found

  • ok i followed these directions in both videos and i now have su on the phone HOWEVER when i try to do the free wifi teather it asks me for su permissions and i allow them but then it tells me that my device is not rooted. Then it say su has granted access then it tells me that there are files missing from the teather apk that i downloaded from one of your other vids.

  • @gamertagtjoker Try flashing the SU zip again

  • @gamertagtjoker Try flashing the SU zip again

  • Thank you for the speedy response. Now I have a DROID x flashed to cricket running 2.3.3 do you know how I could go about rooting it? Without losing the flash? Or do you know someone who does know? If you don't.

  • ok i just downloaded it again and it showes up ACSRecovery5-1.0.0.0-epic4g.tar but on my computer it looks like a ziped file and i can extract it it dosent look like yours in the video.

  • @gamertagtjoker That's fine.... different zip programs handle it differently. Just use the one you downloaded

  • The acs recovery link i download is in the form of a zip file is that a problem?

  • @gamertagtjoker The recovery file should be a tar file.. not a zip. I just re downloaded it and its a tar file

  • hey listen i did what you told me and i got a fail in odin i have gingerbread 2.3.5 on my epic not my phone doesnt work and doest reboot how do i fix this problem because you said it works on gingerbread

  • Thanks. had trouble with gb kicking me back out of adb after reboot :D

  • what's a good rom that has the wifi hack?

  • @kd7hpe No that will not be necessary.

  • @kd7hpe Works just fine for me... should automatically download it for you

  • my phone froze on odin trying to download recovery. screen turned green and took longer then 9 secs. ( waited lik 5 mins) so i turned off my phone and tried doing the whole process again but my phone doesnt boot up just shows a phone icon and computer icon i can go into the downloading screen ( android with the shovel ) and have tried downloading tar recovery but just says fail. any help :,(

  • @humbertobenitez Try using different cables, different ports, reinstall drivers, take out sd card

  • Does WIFI work on this Root??

  • @aaronhud100 Yes it does

  • @qbking77 I have followed this vid and wifi does not work

  • @qbking77 sorry about the earlier message, didnt realize it spammed you. Just stuck at this one point. Did everything in your vids twice, still no root. Any help is appreciated.

  • @expertgmr26 Hmmm.... So did you follow my Ei22 video?

  • @qbking77 yes i did. Even did it again and got the updating acs cwm5 (it was 4 before). Still no luck when i install the su zip. It says its completed just fine, no error messages that i see, but when i reboot, no superuser or busybox.

Only other thing i can think of is maybe the android version is keeping it from installing. When the gingerbread updates started rolling out, i used a file i got offline to manually update instead of waiting to get the over-the-air update.Maybethatsit?

  • @JohnCorleone23 im not sure...i did everything it told me to in this video and the one that it said to use before following the steps in this vid. Im running EI22 and when i boot with vol down/camera/power button, it brings up ACSRecovery v1.0.0.5 CWM4 Based. Is that what is supposed to appear when u use one click root?

Also clicked on qbking's one click video, and it said in red letters, that it doesnt work with gingerbread (so im not sure i should use that yet)

  • Thumbs up Rylegit's comment just because he is Rylegit and makes the best dubstep ever.

  • I can't seem to mount the sdcard in recovery mode, advice?

  • @Rylegit Try backing up your files and formatting your sd card and then put your files back on... if that doesn't work try and flash CWM again with odin. If that doesn't work, you might have to unroot and re root

  • @Rylegit omg ry legit if you read my comment YOU ARE JUST EPIC!!!

  • @Rylegit OH MY GOD ITS RY LEGIT!

  • im not getting the zip file on the clockwork thingy..? help please?

  • @zarnighianbros Fixed! Sorry about that.

  • Hey qbking77,

  • @BryanH85 Fixed! Sorry about that.
