@MishalMooreLover probably to promote the ears to grow in the right direction. If the ears don't grow upright, they might be considered a flaw, not making the dog bad, but possibly confusing how the actual conformation of the breed is to someone who's never seen it. Confusing and weird, yes, but it's the same idea as helping a german shepherd puppy's ears stand erect.
