  • Install Gentoo.

  • Currently running Ubuntu 10.04 on my PC. (It's only os)

Running Mac os 10.7 on my Mac (Main computer) with ubuntu running in VMware Fusion

  • watch?v=SUFwoFWIP0I

  • The only thing that needs to happen is Canonical needs to set up abilities to run windows programs. I use Ubuntu myself, and so if Canonical were to allow us to run games like Portal, or such, without having to install any special things, Ubuntu would probably become at least twice as popular.

  • and stop making them because you're no good

  • ha ha

  • Hey you should try back track 4 it based on ubuntu but the utilities it comes with are bad ads..XD

  • your videos all suck ass man

  • @miamihigh100 huhuhuuh..your videos all suck ass man. it's called a life..GET ONE. if ya dont like his videos..DONT WATCH THEM FUCKTARD

  • Arch Linux is also nice, you start off with CLI and build your way up, which makes it really stable.

11.04 is pretty sexy with the new Unity Desktop.

  • @TWILisawesome How does building up make it stable?

  • @ShadowEater120880 Not sure, lol

  • @TWILisawesome The answer is, it doesn't. You can use Ubuntu minimal and do the same thing. It just makes a more compact, punchy OS. Not more stable

  • @ShadowEater120880 IDK, maybe I just have luck. I have heard horror stories about Gentoo Systems, esp. when updating.

  • Not looking forward to 11.04 and the whole unity interface thing. Using mint now, and sticking with it.

  • Running ubuntu 10.10 as my only OS on my netbook and my main desktop. I run Debian on my Powerbook G4 and my laptop runs windows because I need FL studio to run at a great speed.

  • No thanks.

  • check out sneekylinux and the osguishow for more linux videos covering all distros

  • hahahahahaa ....thats years of windows vista.................that s the reason ubuntu increase %.

  • They can also send you a CD.

  • I just downloaded Ubuntu 10.10. So, I'm anxious to try that out a bit. I'm going to put it on a second hard drive I think. That'll give me plenty of space to run it on.

  • @SoovieFilmsPro It's awesome. I use it. You should try it, you got nothing to loose.

  • yup all both my comps run it now. got my bro on it and going to a loco soon. love it.

  • I wish Chris still made linux videos.

  • @MetalShreader

definitely... linux has gotten a lot better since 2007...

but at the very least he could stop making so many damn videos on apple..

  • @elnegrobembon my thoughts exactly.

  • Chris need to take another look at Ubuntu it evolved a lot since 2007.

  • @TheRanblingjohnny Definitely!

  • @TheRanblingjohnny I think you're right mate, Ubuntu has come a long way. Running Ubuntu 11.04 x64 Natty Narwal or what ever xD and I've had no hardware issues. Best of all, it's faster then windows. And MAC!

  • @TheRanblingjohnny I know!

  • What!? Chris is saying something positive about linux? unheard of! lol i'm using ubuntu, (super OS) its pretty cool, does my laptop more justice then windows ever did, my computer should be on linux, cuz its has so much pictures that my mom does not want to get rid of, and its making it go so slow. ubuntu doesn't go slow when you have hecka stuff.

  • My brother converted me to Ubuntu. Then I started to actually like computers and enjoyed pushing the start button( fast boot up time) . I enjoyed playing games (no more lag). Ubuntu software center is one of my favorite things about it. And only someone who hates open source (losers) would dislike this.

  • I am sorry to jump in like this but , try playing hardcore games on ubuntu like wow or call of duty etc.

  • @Thesaakeman its funny how you pick two of the games that work best under linux ... you obviously haven't used it and dus, no one can take any more of your ubuntu or Linux related comments seriously. do research before you post .

  • @heydude09876 don't come with your smart pants comments about your ubuntu experience try running adobe photoshop or mxit etc. on ubuntu even installing flash player took me some time and half of the apps i use don't even work i mean look at that old skype or that old pidgin etc.

  • @Thesaakeman again photoshop can be run through wine or a virtual machine, there is a version of Mixit for Linux and there are some pretty good alternatives anyway.

flash,Skype and pidgin can all be installed through the software center which is a really simple thing to do. adobe flash will actually come pre-installed in ubuntu 10.10

don't come to me with your uneducated comments about your Ubuntu experience and try researching before you comment.

  • @heydude09876 if you don't have money for windows 7 am sorry for you but

picasa needs to run under wine and you need a virtual machine for photo shop ??

and what will be on that virtual machine ??

    windows

please the i candy might look well but windows stays with the software

  • @Thesaakeman

the whole reason this comment fight started is because you were spreading misinformation about linux and i corrected you. so in the future don't bash another system without knowing what your talking about...

  • @Thesaakeman and stop being a a no life and searching up linux related videos and putting comments that bash anyone who uses that OS

what does that say about you?

    get a life. BLOCKED.

  • @Thesaakeman Dude there is picasa for ubuntu and for photoshop use "Gimp"

  • I dual boot Ubuntu/Windows 7...The only problem with Linux is you need to either dual boot or run something like Virtual Box in order to do things like Netflix.

  • top two comments are both about porn haha

  • im working out if i can switch to ubuntu as my main os. it will take me a while...

  • can you install ubuntu on mac os 9?

  • @kajogbo Ubuntu is a whole nother operating system. It doesn't matter what you have on your machine already. All that matters is what hardware you have.

  • @jbooth300 bullshit , ive spent days trying to get certain hardware drivers AND software (like adobe photoshop etc) to even open (with wine yes i know) ...and no luck , its said ubuntu is easier than vista to install and run = also bullshit , as stated above , i spent days trying to get ubuntu to run like my windows os did , and nothing but trouble , LINUX IS SHIT

  • @jbooth300 bullshit , ive spent days trying to get certain hardware drivers AND software (like adobe photoshop etc) to even open (with wine yes i know) ...and no luck , its said ubuntu is easier than vista to install and run = also bullshit , as stated above , i spent days trying to get ubuntu to run like my windows os did , and nothing but trouble ....if you look closely at the clip , all he is showing you is OS features , not how windows applications run on linux , because its crap!!!!

  • @DMDreaper666 Nobody likes a spammer who has no idea what he is talking about. You are complaining that you can't run Windows applications flawlessly on a Unix operating system? Pathetic. Ubuntu is THE shit.

  • How long does setup on the disc take? Like I put it on my disc and I don't have to install it said and I have been waiting it to load I guess for awhile now. I am just getting a black screen? So please someone tell me how long it takes or is my computer freezing?

  • @master120344 Mine takes 5 mins but i have 8GB ram and a core i7 for the average pc about 15 mins

  • When dad blocked my windows user, i burned a liveCD from his computer when he wasent home, and in that cd was ubuntu. And i'm glad i installed it.

After i little while i went over to Mint, wich is basicly the same thing, but easier for noobs like me :)

Now dad cant block my computer for watching porn! (Seriusly, that is actually the reason. not lying)

  • Baby!! Install that shit son!!

  • When you switch desktops, it better switch audio to the new desktop too so you don't have some noise going on in the background on a blank desktop ;-) if you catch my drift.

  • @RanDoMkId73 so you can wach porn

  • @wozzupgamer You're smart XD.

  • I only use ubuntu. My computers a compaq presario 5000 with almost none of the original hardware so having a lighter os definetly make it faster. LINUX FTW!!!!

  • @MrMaxymoo22 I've just moved over to Ubuntu completely. I was running a dual-boot of Windows 7 Professional and Ubuntu 9.10. Now I'm just running 9.10. Best stupid idea I've ever had!! I have a Dell Latitude D620 and everything works, though I did need to get some drivers for the Wifi, but that wasn't hard at all.

  • I dual boot between XP and Xubuntu on my laptop!

  • Well are you a nerd? xD

  • So you say that i don't have to get my drivers ? I'm using vista in a Compaq computer.

  • i love ubuntu

ubuntu is a real windows and mac killer

  • I have used Ubuntu since Warty (4.10) .

  • I've been using Ubuntu since 9.10, upgraded to 10.04 yesterday.

  • I heard Ubuntu used less resources so when I purchase the Asus Eee T1010MT Netbook I want I'm putting it on there.

  • where can i get that cube thing??

  • why is the video called installing ubuntu when he's running the live cd, he doesn't install shit

  • Popped the disk in the cd-tray? Can you pop the disk in the floppy one?

  • Nerd!

  • @juanlmesl

You're just a troll that wants people's attention.

    Stop wasting our time.

He is a nerd that'ssmarter than your sorry ass.

  • i think ubuntu is far better than anything else.

  • @mattbenluke try using other linux distros.

not being elitist. but theyre just more stable, and just as easy. for some reason all of the "its so easy" praise only gets pointed at ubuntu, whereas its really just how linux has evolved.

  • I have tried others like fedora. i just like ubuntu the best.

  • @mattbenluke try out mandriva :)

it r0x0rzz especially the KDE version

  • i have tried it in vm ware

  • @mattbenluke I like Linux Mint better...

  • @maw88ify Both are good. As long as it's Debian based, not Red Hat, it's gonna be good. Red Hat isn't that great, though.

  • @ProManUnitedFan It must not be that bad seeing how Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server for IBM POWER Premium Subscription (1 year) cost $8,600 ...

  • Downloading it

  • I love Ubuntu I ran windows for years & I got disgusted with microsft when they started doing the activation crap when you had to start installing windows & gaming in linux is excellent I am running mame emulators & windows wine so that I can also use windows software under ubuntu.

  • linuxftw1.blogspot.(com)

  • I got an emachine d620-5133, and it had monitor damage, 3/4 of the screen was covered in white, black, and red. It had Vista, so there was no monitor mirroring... then I installed Ubuntu, and everything got easier for me to use that one laptop... which is not my only laptop, I got this laptop used.

  • The one thing ANY windows OS doesn't have is virtual desktops. Once you start using those, you never want to go back.

  • Im thinking of changing to linux on my laptop, does it run games well? and does it support blue ray player? My laptop has a blue ray player in it and wanted to know if linux will support it when watching movies?

  • fuck me it BLU-RAY not blue ray and no it does not have good game support

  • i have never been a real fan of linux, still i have used before. Now i bought my netbook and i plan to use it to test stuff that wont do on my windows 7 gaming laptop. I just installed ubuntu 9.10 netbook remix on my asus eee pc 1005ha and everything works out of the box, using only 202Mbytes of memory out of the 2 gis I have installed. Its fast, responsive and can do everythin you can do in winxp, vista , windows 7 and is lighter for a netbook. Must have!

  • I love this OS, thought 32bit backwards comparability needs some work. Of course, you c could just install the 32 bit version instead and it'll be fine.

  • I have a newer version of Ubuntu 9.10 and I love it! I coverted my desktop and notebook PC over to the program. everything works. I love the visual effects as well, great OS. anyone want a copy of Ubuntu 9.10 let me know, I will make copies and ship them to you free of charge. the catch you have to subscribe to my channel and if your new you have to subscribe to Lockergnome's channel as well. peace

  • note i can copy the program to a DVD or CD

  • Finally managed a successful dual boot (Ubuntu - XP) ..... but now find myself greeted with a rather embarrassing mouse cursor bug. My cursor is a 2cm x 2cm square of pixel garbage!

Can anyone help with this? My Linux love is fading. Starting to seem more bother than it's worth?

  • try right click on desktop, choose "Change Desktop Background". open "Theme", click Customize, click "Pointer", change the size of the cursor with the slider.

  • Alextimashkov,

Many thanks for taking time to reply to my mouse cursor problem. Sadly, customizing the pointer did not rectify the issue. I've a feeling that it's got more to do with a necessary Graphics Driver (that I've not managed to find anywhere). Not to worry though, and thanks again for your time.

  • Ubuntu MURDERED my PC when I attempted to run it as a dual boot OS with XP.

I'll say no more than: (black screen) "GRUB_"

I'm not the first - and I won't be the last.

Linux curiosity got the better of me. You have been warned.

  • you should reinstall ubuntu and dual boot it then you should log into windows and install easy bcd find the reinstall windows loader and then try rebooting it should kill the grub loader then you erase ubuntu partitions and youre done

  • Thanks for your reply, i2310.

I've since found (channel) cryblood3's excellent dual boot XP-Ubuntu tutorial. I'll definitely give it another go. Thanks for the advice anyway.

  • ubuntu and osx 4ever

  • can you run Adobe Creative Suite?

  • How the hell do I install software in ubuntu? How do I install hardware drivers?

  • i have ubuntu 9.04 and i have problem & the flash player, its not support firefox, thanx for help

  • Oh and Ubuntu does require coding for some things, but there are almost always tutorials on code that is needed for certain things. I duel boot it with Vista 64

  • The desktop cube/cylinder/sphere is GREAT for porn.

Your parents walk in and you just switch desktops and switch back when they leave ^_^

  • =-P

In Which Case I Better Get It

  • I like the way you think!

  • @AmiableAdder That was the first use I thought of when I saw it

  • @AmiableAdder EXACTLY!!!! :D

Parents are noobs, That's what I do with all of my "smut"

  • @AmiableAdder i have noticed that myself also ^_____^

  • @AmiableAdder and flip back your Johnson at the same time?

  • @AmiableAdder LOL!!!!

  • @AmiableAdder LOL placed a camera in my brothers room win a middle of a draw so he got caught, i think u understand what i mean with draw---

  • @AbcEasyAsCsProxY If you mean what I think you mean, that's kinda gross.

Personally I don't like seeing my brother's privates.

    o.O

  • hey thanks, I tried it from booting from the CD and it worked fine, a lot better than windows xp in my opinion.

  • I love GNU/linux but i absolutely HATE Ubuntu. teh new releases made it HELL. I LOVE linuxmint, and PclinuxOS. and i also like Mandriva,. Ubuntu isnt easy to use as they claim. Pclinuxos and linuxmint is EASIER

  • i have ubuntu jaunty now installed in my system but my problem is it is locked in 800x??? resolution and when i installed nvidia driver the resolution goes to VGA and i cant change it to higher resolution cos the VGA resoltuion and other lower resolution is the only option...im using Geforce2 MX/MX400 ty guys

  • if ubuntu gave you problems, and you dont feel like fixing it via the terminal. just try something else that includes all teh closed-source software. try linuxmint, PclinuxOS or mandriva. you will love them. Ubuntu is not teh only linux out there you know :) i personally use linuxmint coz ubuntu gave me hell.

  • I have some questions about this OS. First, will I be able to install it onto my hard drive? Second, If I start clean, am I going to need my network card drivers and what not, or will Ubuntu detect them right away?

  • i have 2 ubuntu machines in my house as servers, i replaced my windows server machine :( i liked it tho

  • it can do much more ^^

  • im using it for my virtual pc

  • you can down Ubuntu for free online

  • A. Simple

    B. Beautiful

    C. All the apps your want.

That just about sums it up. Thanks Chris, as always, great videos...

  • :( it hasn't for me i cant wait till it does though i love linux even if id never used it before the whole idea of community based open source os is perfect for me :) until then though there's always unix

  • largely impossible lol

  • No you could run it off the cd OR install into windows.

  • And do you have to use the live cd just to run ubuntu? like i mean wen your done downloading it and all.

  • yes but its recommended installing it for constant use

  • do you have to wipe the hard drive to run ubuntu? and can someone tell me were i can get a ubuntu that will run on a system that only has 191MB of ram and a pentium 3 933MHz pracessor? and i need a download that still works cause i tried the home of the ubuntu and it wont let me get Xubuntu so yeah please help :(

  • google ubuntu, and itll bring up the website and download 9.04 "Juanty jackalope" its what i use and i have less specs than that XD

  • Many lightweight linux distros will run perfectly on your machine. Ubuntu is too heavy for only 191MB RAM.

Take a look at Puppy linux, for instance, or Antix Mepis or Slax. MacPup is also a good alternative. Debris linux is probably the most similar to Ubuntu as to the desktop. Dreamlinux is also a choice...

I think i could point another dozen lightweight linux distributions.

They all release live CDs, so you just have to download and burn them, and pick the one you like most.

  • ive done about 5 boot disks from different download locations it still doesn't work :S

  • i must say i love ubuntu.

only reason i still have xp on the side is some software that absolutley needs windows for some wierd reason and wont run in wine.

and for the previous commenter i have never had the need for firewall or anti virus on ubuntu. viruses written for linux is so rare and since its open source updates come fast :)

  • does ubuntu needs a antivirus & firewall program??

  • not really, there are viruses but its extreamly hard to get and you would have to try.

  • or you could just be really stupid

  • he doesnt need any of that things, but if you like you have avast antivirus free for download Ubuntu edition :-)

  • nah

  • virus scanner is not that importen but install a firewall (one named firestarter is very easy)=)

  • No operating system in the world needs an antivirus or a firewall as long as you know that the places you download hardcore porn videos from are safe

  • Well maybe, but there are drive-by virus downloads.

  • lol

  • @edlemur Your being sarcastic right?

  • @drmgiver

Not at all. Apparently 8 people agree with me on this too. Viruses don't put themselves on your computer. You have to allow them access.

  • @edlemur If your using Windows without virus protection on it, I can assure you that you have a virus.

  • @drmgiver

If I ran a virus scan with one of your coveted piece of shit antivirus programs it would show my system as clean. But if you think you know more than a systems tech go ahead and continue with your naive assumptions.

  • @edlemur Hey wait here, antivirus programs aren't "coveted" in my book, and neither is Windows. The only OS that I run is Ubuntu. Next.

  • @edlemur just use a mac

  • @skaterboy379 Or pay less For something better and more customizable, granted Linux isn't for everyone but if You have the know how, or the patience to figure it out it's better. More stable, cheaper, faster, sexier and more you.

  • im currently installing on my windows xp laptop. 4 mins left for it downloading. im usin wubi

  • Unfortunately linux has no properly working screencasting app.

Max 1fps @ 720p to fullscreen and only 1 core use while other system is 100% unresponsive (remember other core is under 0% load).

    Linux system C2D e7400 2.8Ghz, 1066Mhz ddr2 2Gb, HD-4670 1Gb

  • My E-mail Client Is A Web Browser Because My Email Addresses Is Webmail Clients!

  • Whenever I find a blank cd.. I'm switching. Bahaha, I've had it downloaded for a while but I have no cd.

And yes, I could get a virtual pc.. but I don't wanna.

  • Should I use this instead of vista?

  • yes vista sucks and ubuntu is awesome

  • Vista isnt for non-nerds.

  • Depends what are you using your computer for?

if you just check your mail, use the internet

or listen to music I would definatly recommend it

also you should keep an installation of windows in case you need a program not running on linux.

you have a choice between partitioning your hardrive or installing it on a fresh one

  • I'm thinking about a virtual machine, would that be a good idea? Please message me

  • Running it on a virtual machine is good way to learn the user interface but you won't get the advantages of running linux(speed, security, etc)

  • ur info sucks

  • i dont understand what ubuntu and linux is, i know its an OP system, but since you load it from a CD, say if i did this then didnt like it, if i booted without the dick, would it have my windows vista just like it was before linux was on there?>?

  • yes, if you run from disc itll have decreased performance. and when your done press shut down, itll tell u to remove u disc, then restart and ur back on windows, however if u install itll erase vista if you choose to or u cn partiton ur hardrive in the installer which is a slider and u choose the amount of space to give to each, if you do this ull have to reformat ur hard drive to get rid of ubuntu

  • use a program called "Wubi" to install Ubuntu/Linux inside of Windows. When you boot up your pc, you'll have two options. WIndows vista OR Ubuntu. Select the one to boot and BAM. Oh, and if you don't like Ubuntu, boot up vista, go to 'Add or remove programs" and now select Wubi and hit uninstall. BAM ubuntu is gone!

  • Ubuntu looks awesome and im definitely installing it but i still like my XP

  • get a virtual pc

  • Make a dualboot

  • down and dirty with the code lol Chris it doesen't eliminate it at all if you want wireless internet or flashplayer and that's just the tip of the iceberg.

  • but i dont know how to get on wifi damn lol

  • Install version 9.04, u will not need to search for drivers.

  • i just got ubuntu yaaaay meee!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • me to Yah

    lol
