  • Thank you very much Sir. I think i can build one.

  • do yjis (which i think is awesome) or buy a degital microscope for 50 buck!

  • Stunning work New Scientist, all those brains and some silicone sealant. Tomorrow the world !!!

  • I also make things like weak energy weapons ( microwave minus steel box), floating lights ( flashlight + bowl + water ) and weather balloons ( digital weather station + balloon ) ...

  • Great video. I love the Natural History Museum microscope and have been using it with my kids for a while now. I originally taped an old webcam to one and got some ok results. However, I just upgraded my webcam to a Microsoft LifeCam Studio and have discovered that it fits perfectly onto the microscope. No need for adapters or tape. In addition, things like focus, saturation, zoom, pan and tilt can all be controlled from the PC. The resulting photos and video are superb.

  • british accent

  • what computer are you use ing at 0:05

  • what computer are you use ing

  • I believe that by reversing the lens in the webcam you also create a very effective microscope.

  • But... Will it blend?

  • Give this guy the nobel prize!

  • I did this years ago and didn't wreck the microscope or camera. Just make an adapter to line up the lenses and block incoming light. It's cheap, it works and doesn't wreck your stuff.

  • actually there are some programs (free) that are able to use short video to produce higher resolution picture. you can get even nicer results with such programs ;)

  • So you've ruined a perfectly good optical microscope and a web cam. Why not just buy a usb microscope?

  • Question is: where to get the "acrylic cut to size" - do you cut them yourself, if yes - how? OR can you buy that somewhere?

  • what kind of a shitty microscope wouldn't already have a backlight?

  • Well i guess it's pretty cool if you're between 8-14 yr old

  • I want a microscope that'll fit my Nikon

  • Cool!

  • Stay tuned for next weeks episode, where we show you how to make your digital USB Large Hadron Collider. You will need: 1) USB Webcam 2) Large Hadron Collider...

  • There is absolutely no way that little webcam and microscope weighs 15 pounds!! XD

  • @pabyizzy

    cost. £15. like $20.

  • @lolocaustism lol i know, i was just kidding :D

  • stay tuned to see how to make a digital telescope ( you can use gutter on this one)

  • Cool, now I can use this to find what's left on my payslip after the government have bled me dry.

  • Similiar inventive solutions have been used by amateur astronomers for a couple of years. HD webcams are remarkable.

  • cheap and simple, like me. I'm sold!

  • Next we dismantle one of my many Apple products!

  • Well, a perfect video for the ten and under crowd...

  • Also works with telescopes! :)

Way to ruin your project images and simultaneously highlight the failings of CCD cameras.

  • why would they even consider making this video, what the fuck

  • Nice idea, but the result did gives a bright LED spot light central image amplification.

    Sorry.

  • Will this work with a telescope also? Anyone knows?

  • @CognosSquare The software may not but its just putting a lens of a camera up to a microscope so I dont see why you couldnt do it with a telescope...

Have all people today lost entirely their ability to think for themselves and procure new ideas of their own?

  • @CognosSquare Yes I knows and yes it works. You can get purpose-built more-light-sensitive 'webcams' made with CCD chips instead of CMOS chips, but they cost a bit more, and are best used with Registax software and tracking telescopes, but for bright-source stuff like lunar/planetary observing, a webcam does the job fine.

  • @Squagnut thx man

  • i hate people who put their desktop icons on the right side

  • @fuglypump thats nothing, i know someone who has them in a giant circle around the moniter...most annoying thing on her computer...

  • @fuglypump Its the british, they always do everything on the wrong side!

  • Thats hella sick lol!

  • looks like someone is running out of ideas to make videos I mean you dont need a microscope (with a webcam attached of course) to see that, a lot of lines drawed by a lot of people, a micro robot going apeshit, a baby gorilla...

  • I've been doing this for ages now (with a 'proper' microscope, of course ;-) ), but it really works. You can also hold a compact digital camera there (best with a small tripod).

  • why not just use your fucking eye

  • @marleyboro Your eye is pretty bad at recording, saving the image and such...

It should be rather obvious what advantages this gives you over just "using your fucking eye". And if you (next time you watch a video) could use your time on reflecting about what you just saw, instead of using it on writing stupid comments, I'm sure the world will seem richer...

  • thats a laptop not a computah

  • i think a magnifying glass gives a better magnification, the hair folicle wasnt at all at microscopic levels.

  • Hey guys, do you want to learn how to make your own USB digital binocular?? Just simply dismantle your webcam, glue it to your binoculars, add a LED to provide light, plug it into your USB port, and presto there you go enjoy.

...would you like to learn how to make your own USB digital telescope??

  • @ThatsSoBS ...or maybe even your own USB digital camera, would you like to learn how to ruin every expensive piece of optics you own??

  • next turn a car into a car

  • If you tape a fork and a spoon together you can make your own spork.

  • That's not making a microscope of any sort....the microscope was already there!

I'm gonna have to agree with the haters today.

  • will it blend?

  • @defect530 That is the question! tan na nan na nan

  • so this is what mac users call "making your own digital microscope"

    could have guessed so

  • ive alwase wanted to see your "hayr folicle"

  • good one

  • Nice

  • Nerds are getting cheaps.

  • Here's some more "revolutionary" science ideas:

Physics - Picking up a cut with your arm...what? that is physics

Chemistry - Baking soda and vinager

Biology - Masterbation (also physics related)

  • his name is lewis psyches

  • this is revolutionary .... holy shiot ..... will this help us colonize space ?!?!

  • so whats new, new scientist ?

  • So easy... though, I wonder... how easy is it to find acrylic rings cut to size for your own cam and microscope? o.O

  • this will revolutionize our way to look at the universe...from the smaller to the larger!

  • I need a walkthrough. this is to complcated. How do you put your own hair in a computer o.O

  • lol i tried this when i was 15 or so...

also did the binocular+webcam and the binocular+binocular+webcam combo all the time. also works with digital photocameras and video cameras attached to microscopes and binoculars/telescopes etc.

  • Or you could just buy a usb microscope...

  • wow, this is so genius!...

  • Great stuff. Thanks for the idea. I'm sure by now someone has built a USB microscope. Must look into that.

  • nd if you download picolay you get a 3d microscope for free. or at least you can make 3d pictures with it.

  • these videos are getting worst and worst

  • @momopamlove these comments are getting worse and worse

  • @momopamlove Your English is getting worse and worse.

  • can you use it to watch asian elephant sex?

  • Or you could spend ten dollars and get a real digital microscope that does a better job...

  • what i dont get is why they dont spend this much time on explaining some of the better topics, rather than 3.10 mins on a detailed expansion for resting a cheap web cam on a cheap microscope.

  • cheap cunt

  • damn, top comment spot is already taken :(

  • Crystal meth would have been more beneficial.

  • lol microscope with a microphone?

  • Ok, now teach me how to breath.

  • @gosucoaching dont hold your breath for that.

  • this pictures are really crapy! Pointless video, just take a normal compact digital camera and take pictures trough the ocular! And also; get a real microscope... you can get good and cheap ones on ebay

  • get a life

  • Pretty cool

  • So basically, attach a webcam to a microscope.

  • @nintendopi i agree with you...but funny hahaha !!!

  • now i can find my penis

  • @larry89 lol

  • @larry89 LMAO

  • @larry89 You're Justin Beiber?

  • @larry89 thats disapointing....

  • @larry89 ha you must be Asian xD

  • @larry89, You may need an electron microscope

  • @larry89 best comment ever :))
