  • Absolute beauty! Thank you!

  • Holy crap, Batman! That is all I can say.

  • @craighmacy LOL! Thanks all for the nice comments. Being a huge TD fan myself, I just downloaded the 6 song remix of Oceanea (available free if you're on his list). Looking forward to hearing THAT!

  • This is incredible! Amazing job!

  • beautiful....

it's one of those songs that stay in your head 4ever after hearing it once. Nice 2 hear it broken down 2 its barest compounds.

    well done....

  • Really really wonderful. Great work. I also love the singer you work with. Lovely voice.

  • All I can say is incredible!

I was a big fan of Thomas Dolby in my younger days and have just found his new music, have to say your interpretation is fantastic, just listened to it 3 or 4 times on repeat and could listen all day.

This is what YOUTUBE is all about...giving the chance for incredible talent like yours a chance to be seen and heard!

  • Moved to tears by this version . . .

  • Unbelievably beautiful. Just stunning. I saw TMDR last week on his birthday and as a true fan of his I praise you for such a soulful and mesmerizing interpretation. I too look forward to anything you do by Prefab Sprout...well, since I am now a big fan of yours, I look forward to hearing everything you do!

  • @Tonyous Thanks! I have a 39 song double album coming out in a few days called Travels. All original material over at doughammer-dot-net

  • Wow...Absolutely fabulous. This song has a very haunting melody that really shines when played on piano. Superb playing and interpretation.

  • Just one word: superb

  • Thank you for sharing this with us, you play it so beautifully. A wonderfull tribute that you've managed to put your own emotional touches onto. Thank you for this..and very happy that Dolby has heard it ^_^

  • Hi, if you like Thomas Dolby, are you also a fan of Prefab Sprout? If so, please perform some of their songs too. This is wonderful.

  • @Aviva2121 I am a HUGE fan of Prefab Sprout! I will consider it!

  • @doughammermusic: Gosh, I love you then! 'Desire As' is a good choice for a piano interpretation, don't you think?

  • I posted 3 months ago that I was listening to this over and over, I still am!

  • @blackadder3 :)

  • DAMNNNNNN YOUR AMAZING. i would give anything to play like you do.

  • Very nice! - Thomas Dolby is a genius, and it shows through here.

You might want to try working up a version of The Flat Earth and Screen Kiss from his Flat Earth album - both equally strong and emotional pieces of music.

  • Superb..

  • I like that little tasty scale run you did around 2:28. Nice.

  • STUNNING.

  • This is a beautiful rendition, I'm sure TMDR is proud, great job! I've listened to this over and over!

  • There is something amazing in the way that you play, dear Doug. I keep coming back to this song and dream away... THank you for the sweet escape.................

  • This is a wonderful version of a master song from a master songwriter. I have added it to my que of Thomas Dolby songs. Thank you for being passionate about this melody.

  • Gorgeous rendition! I love it.

  • So wonderful. I keep coming back to listen.

  • How can this be breathtaking and feel like a breath of fresh air? Very moving ... as moving as the original.

  • Absolutely beautiful. This song has been haunting me too.

  • A fitting tribute to the master. Well done!

  • very fine.

  • A truly wonderful rendition of a wonderful tune. This will find its way into my weekend playlists from now on.

  • I hope TMDR himself has heard this. It would make me proud to hear any song I created rendered so beautifully. Well done, sir!

  • @g8rsound He has:)

  • well now you've made me go and get all gooey. Thanx!

  • Had to post on this one. Oceanea is my favourite tune right now - and I have a feeling it's going to be one of those tunes that stays with me always. Your treatment is superb, and as you say, shows the strength of the source material. I too have had those mornings since first hearing the tune on the 'Wired' podcast, when I would up with it in my head for some reason - particularly since my mum passed away last year (I think it's that 'nightingale' line). Excellent, sensitive job.

  • @TheAmazingMrBlunden Thanks for your kind words. The "nightingale" line is particularly haunting. It's playing in my head right now!

  • Beautifully played, sir.

  • Do you have an mp3 recording of this? Would love this on my ipod.

  • Beautiful... Found this as I searched for TMDR's version- and this is as haunting as the original. Finding this is what you call serendipity... I've now placed an order for 'Solace' - I've a feeling its going to take pride on place on my Ipod playlist.

  • i hate to be the heretic here, but this version might actually be better than the original because it illuminates the brilliance of the chord progressions in a way TD's recording can't due to the imposition of vocals. your treatment is extraordinarily tasteful and doesn't lack at all in keeping the listener's interest in spite of the lack of special effects. almost makes me wants to throw out my synthesizers…almost….

  • @kemaxiu Well thank you for your comments! The beauty of a great song lies in its ability to be morphed and arranged into all sorts of things. Your praise is really aimed at Mr. Dolby for writing a great song. I absorbed this song rather quickly and needed to get it out of my fingers. We can thank Thomas for that, writing such a haunting tune...

  • You clever man.

  • TMDR's original is gorgeous, and so is your playing, Doug! Beautiful.

  • Nicely done!

  • Awesome Doug!

  • amazing as always <3

  • beautiful

  • TMDR tweeted you, congrats!

  • Wonderful job.

  • Absolutely wonderful!

  • An excellent reworking of my favourite recent Dolby tune, thanks for sharing :oD

  • It is great to hear a piano cover of a new Thomas Dolby song in good old 2010, and absolutely beautiful I must say.

  • Seriously nice piano. And a nice re-working of a fresh Dolby tune.
