So in conclusion, technology right now is pretty advanced, proving that more power doesn't mean more speed and would only cost more. Take the F1 cars right now for example, started out with engines well over 900 hp, now they're limited to 750 BUT the F1 nowadays are a lot faster than be4. Proving that tech matters :)

One thing I cant figure out is the old mclaren used a 6.2 litre engine and weighed 1140kg. This one uses a smaller engine. Almost half the size / 3.8 litre engine, has 17 years of technology ADVANCEMENT and friggin weighs 1300kg vs the old ones 1140kg weight .Thats 160 kg more then the old one.And the old one had 1 extra seat :-). In terms of advancement its already a failure.Ok so they might argue the older one had a bigger budget but this one has 17 years of tech over the old one !
Havnt heard anything much from McLaren since the time they were producing their line of Mercedes. Ive seen ONE on the road since its debut. Wouldnt doubt people would rather spend their money on the typical $300K cars such as Ferrari, Lambos, Astons, ect....

Jaguar used discbrakes in LeMans in the 50's so Ferrari got a hint to stop using their drumbrakes. Cooper made the first rearengined car in Formula 1, so Ferrari caught on 3 years later and realized that was the way of the future. Lamborghini made the first midengined supercar the Miura.

i personally don't like McLaren because they where always with MB and copied systems / technological stuff; why do they else have corporated with Mercedes for such a long time
America makes cars that have a ton of power and they have made some all time greats (the original Ford GT-40 and the Shelby 427 Cobra's, but they simply cannot compete with Europe when it comes to great all around sports cars. America goes fast in a straight line, but Europe can do that AND go round a track. Plus the build quality of the cars and technology is far superior. The mighty Vette ZR-1 got beat by the 2009 911 Turbo which is only a 6 cylinder.
Hate to say this but the body of the Shelby Cobra was based on the British AC Ace chassis. Carroll Shelby bought a few of those and got the idea to shoehorn a Ford V8 in this lightweight chassis to make the ultimate racecar.
The Ford GT40 was based on a chassis Eric Broadley of Lola cars had started but never finished. Lola cars is British too.
Did I mention the Viper's V10 engine got re-engineered by Lamborghini from an engine originally meant for trucks.
because the zr1 is rear wheel drive it is the slowest off the line but then catches and passes the rest of the competition: (corvette zr1, Nissan gtr, Porsche 911 turbo) 0-60 3.5 3.3 3.5/ 0-100 7.3 8.0 7.9 / 0-120 9.9 11.5 11.4
those are both faster than the new porsche 911 turbo which runs 7:26.7

Also ive heard that the seats are very comfortable and have seen that the interior is exquisite. Mclaren have an enviable ability with composite materials. The single piece hollow monocell is darn impressive. They don't shout about it, but this is perhaps the most advanced application of composites anywhere. Aerospace manufacturers are far more constrained when it comes to getting the most out of composites, unlike their automotive counterparts and Mclaren are masters at it amoung much else. If I had the money I'd buy it in a heartbeat and be happy to use it everyday. Dream on...

It looks compact due to the design but it must be big. for example you said the zr1 was beaten by the 911 turbo, yea i have that magazine were they tested the two and let me give you some information.
the lap times around the track resulted in the zr1's favor it ran 1:20.1 while the nissan gtr ran a 1:20.9 and the slowest porsche ran a 1:21.3

@Inklebonker1 Now the veyron SS holds the title. Just because Americans can make a car go 250mph doesnt necessarily mean they make the best cars. Quality and speed are two different things. Scientists from NASA worked on the Aero SS, its a goddamn car, its not a shuttle. You miss the point of cars, its not just about going fast in a straight line, Americans always deliver on that no doubt, but they do not build quality and durable cars as do Europeans and Japanese, i dont think so

@fukwaynecampaign2 durability? i watched a review on the ssc ultimate aero and the guy driving it was in the triple digit Los Angeles heat. Something you cannot do with a normal super car. Also ive heard that the seats are very comfortable and have seen that the interior is exquisite. Japanese cars are too busy running away from their owners and european cars cost you your home just to stay in the shop with super expensive repairs.

Mclaren have an enviable ability with composite materials. The single piece hollow monocell is darn impressive. They don't shout about it, but this is perhaps the most advanced application of composites anywhere. Aerospace manufacturers are far more constrained when it comes to getting the most out of composites, unlike their automotive counterparts and Mclaren are masters at it amoung much else. If I had the money I'd buy it in a heartbeat and be happy to use it everyday. Dream on...

I was really disappointed when I first saw the car, but I'm realizing mclaren is using really ugly colors for their display models. I bet it would look much better in black. But it does kinda look like it came out of the early 90's...

first of all they didn't steal a vehicle. Mike Coughlan their former engineer got a look at some of Ferrari's accumulated data from their tests and possible some blueprints for a future Ferrari Formula 1 car. And you seem to be UNAWARE Formula 1 racing has NOTHING to do with the McLaren F1 roadcar. Take a look at a F1 racing car, it looks like your IndyCars but is way more advanced.
Gordon Murray designed the F1 roadcar, which only has the name in common.

you're talking out of your ass. In case you're talking about their roadcar then that was designed by Gordon Murray from the ground up. If you're talking about the 2007 season then you are half right. It's just that ALL teams use info from other teams and Ferrari is no exception. In fact they bought all the engineers from other teams in the 80's and 90's and copied every single innovation in F1 from British teams.

Do you even know what Formula 1 is? It seems you're oblvious to the fact their former roadcar F1 has absolutely nothing to do with the F1 racing series.
McLaren lost all their points for 2007. But in 2008 Lewis Hamilton was world champion with McLaren and this time they proved it to everybody.
Ferrari never invented jack shit in Formula 1. Rearengined cars, monocoque chassis, wings, slicks, ground effect, and tons of other stuff was pioneered by Lotus, Cooper, McLaren etc

It looks compact due to the design but it must be big. He said it's practical so that means this is more of an Audi R8 than a Ferrari yet it will be taking the likes of the 458 Italia and Gallardo LP560-4. I know people would say "I'll take a Ferrari or a Lamborghini." I'll go wit h the Mclaren. It's understated and not much of an "In your face" kind of car.
And I kinda like his accent especially when he pronounced Ferrari and Lamborghini.
