  • that packer is SLOW!!!!!!!!

  • @TheOTTO2732 the throttle control mechanism used to speed up the packer was inoperable since it was a prototype that never went into production so they didn't fix it before firing it up for us.

  • @shadofax96 yeah they m/as out here are really slow!!!

  • wow, that's one of a kind truck

  • How fast can it go? Did you get to drive it on the road?

  • sweet never seen a side loader like that before awsome

  • GREAT CLASSIC!!!!

  • Wow...that was really pretty cool, loved the full-eject design and packer didn't have bad speed by any standards, enjoyed the little ride around in the cab too :) Thanks for documenting this awesome truck, probably was the first full-eject MSL ever!!!

  • There's an awesome truck with an awesome engine... I really respect those Detroits, produce some mad sounds! So were these Bowles MSLs ever put on the product line or were they just a test? Liked the shots you got of the ejection from the rear and front POVs, cool to see the ejector cylinders in operation. Got some nice shots, the driving was pretty entertaining... you guys must've had some good fun! Dwane's a real nice bloke to power it up and let you take it around for a spin :)

  • WOW! That Hydrostatic rear drive sounds sinister, I like it!! That bowles cab sure looks like a CCC & the Detroit 6-71N feels right! That's the best MSL I've ever seen esp with that ejector blade! That's 1 mean truck!! Great Job, 5 Stars & Fav!

  • great video, i like that sound of a Detroit Diesel screaming with a vengance and holy shit a truck that is driven by hydraulics thats just too unreal, you guys are having too much fun lol, keep em coming!

  • Its great to see some of these older trucks! Thanks Bill!

  • It might use a full football field to make a U-turn, it seems? Axle distance is not made for European cities, that's clear to see ;-)

  • where do you find trucks like this? really cool to see old stuff still around, but i like more modern built trucks and mainly ASL's. 5 stars for this great find

  • What a beauty! I always wondered how well hydrostatic drive would work in a truck. Construction sweepers use it, and they can hit 45 easy with comparitivly tiny pums and motors, but are usually limited for safety. Kind of creepy sounding, just like the sweepers but bigger. Overall one crazy hunk of metal, and you guys got to drive it!!! Just one thing, how old is it?

  • started in 78 finished in 84

  • Mad Max trash truck!! The hydro is most unusual, a method more typically found on off-highway vehicles. I think the only other refuse truck to use it was the T-100, and then only as an assist and not the primary drive, as this truck has (Any idea what the top road speed is?)

I think you also get some extra harmonics from the empty body as well.

You guys did a great job as always, and Duane went above and beyond This is unreal to have access like this.

  • hahahaha....fuck-tard...you cut out some of my witty comments! oh and just so you all know...when Bill's driving...its MY (Zachary's) point of view....Billl....get it right Billl...

  • I hope that truck never gets scrapped. Very interesting to see! 5*

  • awsome.

  • Fantastic video. This truck hould be preserved in a museum

  • WOW, don't know how you and Zach pulled this one off but I am very jelous of you know...LOL!

    That is one bad-ass truck!

I have never seen anything quite like it with that push-out panel and all.

This is a true piece of California history. If you post pics on Flickr I hope you add them to my group, "California Refuse Handling Equipment"...

5*, wish I could give you more...;)

  • Right turn FAIL at 5:30! That thing is as evil looking as it sounds, but it is an AWESOME piece of machinery! Lucky bastards! lol

  • Grreat video the back doors are exactly the same as the old remple disposal trucks

  • very nice! ive heard that destinctive whining sound in an older amrep asl in Orange, have they been around long or do you think it was rebuilt with the hydrostatic rear end?

  • Great video! I can not wait to see more of this truck! 5 Stars.

  • that is one bad ass truck nice job you 2 when i first seen it i thought it was just going to be a normal MSL lol boy was i wrong 5 stars guys
