Farther away will give more sustain but go to far and you'll lose your tone. The closer the pickups, the more the magnetic field will hinder the vibration.

Stevie did NOT use Yexas Specials per se, he used over wound stock pickups which were later called Texas Specials.

They sound very twangy through a my grind it DOD tube amp,I think that they may have more twang than a telecaster
