Bono always diplomatic and sympathetic. He singing this one minute tribute to MJ was better than some long speeches I've listened since MJ's passing. Well done. love both! Little known fact: in the summer of 1976, just as the lads were coming together in Dublin, they went by the bandname of "Feedback". They had a rotating lineup with different players coming and going, including the Edge's brother on bass guitar, before ultimately settling on the Final Four members.
One of these temporary players who didn't make the final cut was 18 yr. old Michael Jackson. He played the tin whistle. As Casey Stengel used to say, you could look it up. True story.

You know, at one point U2 was the coolest shit in the world through their style and music.
now people hate on them,, it'a usually the people that are too young to remember the flava... Joshua tree came out and blew EVERYONES minds commercially .
before tha U2 was on some raw political steez.

@frostflow u2 are still the coolest. That is despite doing everything uncool. They are not the classic rock stars. Saw them in boston and it was awesome. They have kept morphing. They were different in 80s and 90s and are different now but have been awesome all the time.

This just shows you the greatness of Michael's voice and its 3.5 octave range voice. Most everyone else's voice pales in comparison. Sorry Bono. But at least Bono gave a tribute... unlike all the other self absorbed narcissistic performers on the MTV video awards who didn't even mention Michael...even though the whole night was dedicated to him and no one did video better.. Only the old school pros like Madonna a Bono really get what a HUGE loss Michael's death is to the world.

People, please. Those commenting that Bono did MJ wrong by singing "this way" or was poking fun? Come on. U2 and Bono in particular have always had the highest respect for him, and Bono expressed sympathy for him, onstage and in an interview, when the first allegations hit waaay back in 1993. So hold off on the cynicism. I a huge fan of both - U2 rock for this tribute. And btw, Bono ALWAYS changes around words to songs - including his own - to fit the occasion/mood.

Bono always tries to pay tribute to great artists. I've heard him sing the Beatles, Patti Smith, Jimmy Hendrix, Bob Marley, Smashing Pumpkins, among others. You're right, he doesn't always sing at his best when he's covering them, but at least he plays covers. That simple fact is awesome when you consider how HUGE U2 has become.

I'm a MJ and U2 Fan but I agree learn the words Bono, still a good effort though. I'm glad Bono took a chance though, it showed his human side. That was just AWESOME. Just AWESOME. To me, the best way to pay tribute to Michael was just the way U2 did it, through song. Through the same art form Michael used to express himself.That was simple great and so respectful. Again, totally U2 style. Loved it.And hearing Bono and the Edge try and hit those high notes that Michael does when they were singing don't stop till you get enough did put a smile on my face, and I am sure it did Michael too...that was the idea of that I am pretty sure.....
