Little gays, what I learned in 7 years of catholic school was that I was 5'10 in sixth grade and that no one can tell you that you can't do something. As soon as I left there I found friends I could trust and came out at 14. It wasn't easy lots friends got new ones. I didn't care because i always knew once i graduated i could create my own version o reality and draw in what i always wanted. today at 24 it was worth it. It gets better!

It doesn't get any better than this: Best damn chemistry of ANY show, brilliant acting, amazing writing, and a wonderful message. I remember watching an interview with Rue Mcclanahan and she said this was one of her favorite scenes, because it "totally nailed Blanche's character perfectly." I couldn't agree more.

I always got a laugh whenever Blanche referred to her boyfriends/lovers as "gentleman callers". Yes, the writing for this show and its characters was very clever and insightful indeed.

@cheeriosinabowl Blanche wasn't so worldly. Dorothy was cultured and worldly; liberal, socially & politically minded. Blanche was from the South & as sexual as she was, she was "liberal" when it came to heterosexuality and men. She was clueless when it had to do with homosexuality. Her reaction to her brother's gayness also shocked me at first, but it made sense that just because she was promiscuous does not mean one is sexually liberated. :) She still was close-minded & ignorant.

When I originally said that Blanche was "worldly", I meant it that she was a bit of an easy lay in the hay, quite promiscuous. LOL - I now remember her brother's gayness threw her for a loop. But she was cool with it, once the shock wore off.

@cheeriosinabowl if you think about it, every time Blanche was faced with conflict, she retreated to her conservative side, but came around later. Her reaction's to her Gay Brother, Big Daddy marrying a younger woman, Rebecca having artificial insemination, Dorothy and Uncle Lucas getting married were all the same. They always played her as the free spirit, but she still had the conservative edge she had been raised with and concerned what others would think. Very clever writing.
