@moonstafari That's a 14x6.5 Ludwig Black Beauty Super Sensitive with a good 'ol Remo Coated Ambassador on there. There's Evans EC2s on the toms and an Aquarian Superkick II on the kick. This was a great kit. But Ive since sold it and Im rockin a Yamaha PHX now. The Bentley of drum kits :)
@rageta1 Hey there. That's a little something I've made myself, dubbed the 'Crap Stack'. :)
The recipe is as follows...
1 old Zildjian 10" A Splash with a crack in it
8 rivets
1 13" CB Percussion hi-hat top (or crap ass equivalent from any starter kit)
1 very thin sliced cymbal felt
Here's what I did - Took the cracked splash and popped 8 rivets in it. Then put newly riveted splash underneath the CB cymbal, separated by a thin felt. Boom. Done. It's Crap'tastic!
This is great. The first time I watched it, I heard it as though he was clicking the hats on 1 and 3 instead of 2 and 4. I eventually heard it correctly, but I have to say that was an interesting experience. More from you! I'm subscribing.
Lemmie clear up this RIGHT HAND TRADITIONAL thing. When I was younger and first starting to play, I remember watching a Police video. Might have been Roxanne or somethin. Anyways, Stewart was the first guy I ever saw use that grip. So I copied what I saw...but with the wrong hand. It just stuck. I'm actually right handed but I've done it for so long in the beginning that the whole muscle memory thing locked it up. Im usually matched but some licks just feel better with the traditional grip. :)
@penski77 .... I know what you mean ... I usually play matched but I switch to right hand traditional when I play a country style train beat ...it just feels better with traditional
@penski77 same here, i played drums snare and middle school and used my left hand for the traditional hand, and i'm actually left handed. i just play match grip now, unless i'm playing just snare.
That's a cheap ass ghetto stack that I made with a 13" CB Percussion hi hat top and hidden underneath is an old and slightly cracked 10" Zildjian A splash that I popped 9 rivets into. Some of those cheap Chinese cymbals off them starter kits make great trashes, man!
Those are Evans EC2 clear heads and just a Remo Coated Ambassador on the snare. It's a Ludwig Black Beauty Super Sensitive, though...so that will account for a percentage of the awesomeness. haha
Thanks for the props, man. This is actually a three mic setup. Two overheads and there's one on the kick.
I believe, unless you're actually recording the kit in the studio, it aint really necessary to close mic the hats. You'd be surprised just how much hats the overheads will pick up on their own once they're placed right. I did sweeten up the mix a bit during editing but I didn't do much at all 'cept for boosting the hi's just a touch.
that's a little 'Frankenstein' stack I put together using one half of a cheap ass set of 13" CB Percussion hi hats and an old 10" Zildjian splash that I popped about 9 rivets into (cause I noticed a crack in it). the splash is hiding under the 13". Never throw out them old cymbals, man!
Honestly, the wood hoops were thrown on purely for asthetics, man. However they did actually warm up the drums quite a bit. Definately a difference from the die cast hoops that come with it. I also have a Pearl Vision kit in the same configuration and threw the die cast hoops from the Reference kit on it. Very nice as well!
dude i'm personal friends with rob and he doesn't stick toss! the only reason he does it here is cause of the timing. and i also know he could whoop the hell outta you on drums so take your rob bashing and blow it out your ass. rob's the shit, ten fold!!! PAYCE
Muito bom !!

yo, why do you play the trad grip in the right hand, when your set is built for a righty? is there any especial sence?

Hey rob great playn but i got to know, why do u play some traditional with ur right hand? assuming ur right handed (cuz of the kit set up)
rith5 1 year ago
hey rob, what is that cymbal you are using over the last floor tom? looks like a splash but has a kind of "trashy" sound to it.
