If anyone is interested, I have Eddy's "Careless", "To Each His Own", and "Sin (It's No Sin)" on my channel, all recorded off their original 78's. Thanks!
I was about 10 and listened to this at night when I went to bed on my old Farnsworth table radio. I lived in Chicago and there were programs form all over with this kind of music. One of my favs was from the Edgewater Beach Hotel in Chi Town. So many great bands and singers.
una terrible nostalgia me trae esta cancion, como estar caminando por una calle llena de penumbra, pero a su vez el confort que el corazon nos sabe dar cuando hacemos una rememoranza de un lejano pasado, en la que han quedado nuestros seres mas queridos.
It's sort of amazing how you don't hear him mentioned much these days! #1 hits! Wow. A huge star in his day! I like the "sides" I've heard by Dick Jurgens also!
This was my parent's song. Today they are celebrating their 64th Wedding Anniversary. They danced to this at the 60th anniversary party we gave them 4 years ago.
The forties were my teenage years. Married the love of my life when young. All these big Band leaders and their music brings back wonderful memories, We were married 51 year and so many precious memories.
This brings back memories of dancing to the music of Dick Jurgens Orchestra when his band came to the Blue Room Ballroom in Quincy, Illinois - - and of listening to Eddy Howard's "Careless." Beautiful memories!!!
The Great Eddy Howard had his success with Dick Jurgens and with his own band in the 40's and 50's dying very young in 1963.I loved most all his work especially the 1939 recording of "Gone With The Wind" with Jurgens using the sound of a Hoover vacuum cleaner for the sound of the wind, very funny, but good!!!!
Eddie was the greatest. My father, Ronnie Kemper, was with Eddie at the very beginning when they joined Dick Jurgens in Lake Tahoe, California. Dad said Eddie played an "adequate" trombone, but couldn't read a lick of music. His voice was so fabulous that Jurgens clearly wanted him to be part of his band anyway.
I inhearited my father's big band and theme song collection. Have over 1,300 theme songs, mostly on cassiette and lp. I need to be putting them on Cd.
Eddy Howard first recorded "Careless" in `1939 when he was the singer with the Dick Jurgens band -- recorded on the Vocalion label. When he formed his own band, EH re-recorded the song and used it as his theme song.
Eddy Howard was my dad's favorite vocalist. His high notes are just beautiful: his vocals on Careless (of which the intro of this posting is taken) are incredible, his high notes rivaling the Platter's version of My Prayer. If you have any live footage, I would love it, of course!!!!
"To Each His Own" is such a great song, and Eddy Howard sings it so well. Although the video opens with an instrumental version of "Careless," I well recall Eddy's vocals of that song while singing with the Dick Jurgens Orchestra. Great, great, great!
Eddy Howard had his unique style. This is so beautiful. Any chance of you posting more of his music? Do you have his recordng of Dinner for One Please James?
