  • @havinfar2muchfun you are right lol. but you gotta admit... that horse is not happy.

  • By the looks of it the horse it has good weight, it's coat is clearly clean and shines. The problem the horse has is in of is fly spray

  • @captainjackstierow19 His ears aren't perked, he looks like a pretty bored / fed up horse to me. Where's water and hay? He does look healthy but bored.

  • HAHAHAHA ok laurabotncy... hate to spoil the secret... but no, you ovbiously did NOT grow up around horses lol!! But good observation because you're right, he is NOT prancing lol... but no need to worry, those legs of his are no source of discomfort.

And all others convinced of injustice, perhaps you should just leave the diagnostics to a trained professional.

  • Sores??? Are you talking about the chestnuts on the inside of the upper front legs?? Those are natural and normal.

If you want to defend horses from cruelty, check out horse-racing and Premarin mares and the foals that go to slaughter.

  • Nope jus the premarin

  • this horse is in great condition . no cruelty at all seen . all horses like to get rid of the flies. you obviously know nothing about horses, or how to care for them . i know you are pathetic. the horse is in great shape . look at animal cruelty in china go and help over there, if you want to do any good you moron .

  • It's a nice horse bugged by the flies.

But you want to see something bad so mutch that everything is an excuse. That's exactly why I dont massage my horse leg on the stand anymore like I used to. Because people always think it's because something is wrong it can't be just love. It's like you don't want it possible to have a driver that does the job in the respect and the love of the animal.

  • Thank you! I watched the video closer and you can see the horse is secured to the wall with a strap tied to the halter just not in the normal place- you can see the rope and tension on the halter right under his jaw- SO SORRY- i just needed to take a closer look- thanks for the stable info! My horse relaxes with one hoof cocked and folks frequently ask what is wrong. It's just the way he stands--

  • watch?v=AjV5TACuRLA

  • he's clearly unhappy about something and I can see what you're talking about with the sores. His tail is twitching and his ears are back, he's also side stepping all over the place.

poor things. I always feel bad for those horses. Horses belong in the country, not in the city (aside from police horses which are very well taken care of).

  • Cities were once full of horses. Full.

  • i would take that horse

  • Looks like the horse is use to a daily routine. He appears to be waiting for his stall to be prepped- or food. He's swatting his tail and bugs and prancing in place- he's clearly not tired- tired horses dont prance. He's eager to do something- i'd guess dinner time. I can't see a lead line on the horse- why he's not tied only the handler knows. His body has good flesh/fat..... looks to be fed well and in shape. I'd love to see the inside of the stable!

  • why don't you enlarge your window and check out the obvious sores on his leg....that's not prancing, his leg is bothering him!

    (grew up around horses)

  • Stable? Where?

  • thats a stable!?!? the poor thing! what awful living conditions for it...I can't imagine what it goes through and the unpleasantness...no food, water, hay or anything available to it...really it is unbelievable that people can do such things

  • moron they are all looked after very well, more than a lot of other horses. your a uneducated fool . the condition of the horse is excellent .

  • poor cutie ;( I can't understand that. NYC Stable. :-/

  • this horse is sick with lack of fresh water and worked to hard ! causing disoreintation !

  • it isnt sick

  • That's a stable? How? It looks like a poor tired horse standing outside a big building to me.

    Crazy. Just Crazy...

  • only monay is importand like it looks! people will never learn

  • Animal abuse is such a serious situation. I have been an advocate for animals all of my life. I am so sensitive to this abuse that I cannot watch the video "Blinders." There are so many influential and wealthy people in our country you would think that that they would come forward and help these horses. There are some that could give a million dollars to make it possible to get these horses off of the concrete and in clean stables with acres of pasture land.

  • damn. poor thing, he should be out in a field grazing or chillin' in a nice stall with appreciation poor lil guy :(

  • where is the aspca!

  • oh my goodness...my heart started feeling so heavy when he began moving his lil hooves up and down...like he needed to be standing on soft hay in a barn. The concrete is hard on his feet because of the weight he is sustaining against it. He needs cushioning and relief. Where is people's compassion, that this kind of treatment is ignored. Thank you for bringing it to our attention by posting this video.

  • not exactly a paddock is it! kinda looks like a garage to me....a bad one, not good and not nice :( few police horses just been injured in london protecting the muppets at the G20 meeting, personally i would have preferred the police to ride the politicians and let them get flash-bombed instead!

  • they call this a stable?

  • awh this is not nice:(

he looks like he is dyeing to lay down

    poor things hope this stops!

  • im visiting the city in 3 or 4 weeks. ill remember about this...

  • God this sort of thing makes me so cross. People who dont know how to care properly for a horse shouldnt be allowed to have one. This horse is obviously in some distress judging by the way he's trying to shift his weight and lifting his feet. A horse at rest needs to be able to lay down and be able to stand on softer ground if working on hard surfaces. I see no food no water, no shelter! I found this video extremly noisy, he cant rest with all that noise around. Its so wrong and needs to stop!

  • I hate PETA I find them very annoying. I Love meat, but I don't think it's fair to let a horse to be tied up. Horses are very beautiful animals and get freaked out easy. People must be careless to let a fucking horse be tied up where it's going to freak out or get threatened and end up kicking somebody in the head, and run away and get hit by a car.

  • You love meat?

You should love the innocent animals, who did no harm to people - but are cruelly slaughtered to death and live a very short and sad live in dark sheds.

  • sad what a shit life. feel sorry for the poor thing. love to see the owner run over by a semi.

  • poor horsie looks like he could be with his horsie friends in the field with hay and grass! Not noisy stuck in the noisy city where people stare with their evil eyes!

  • I watched twice as at first i thought the horse was feeling some sort of leg pain but it was flies irritating him as he also was biting his body to remove them. He looks pretty depressed, okay body weight and shine to his coat. No life for a horse though, they should all get some time loose in a field every day to keep them mentally in balance.

  • wow thats pretty dangerous

  • aw...the horse's front legs hurt..and he doesn't even have any blinders on,...he's kind of just out there by himself, unattended, and in pain. the car that pulled up behind him freaked him and made him turn around...this is sad...

  • Do you know where the NYC stable is?

  • yes on 38th and 11th ave

  • There is one on w 52 between West side highway and 11th avenue.

  • that horse is obviously lame!

  • thats just sick! its clear that the horse is in pain and if it got loose it could easily get run over by a car!>:O

  • OMG!!! This horse was standing out there, not even tied to anything?! Horses spook so easily, and he could have run off and killed drivers, pedestrians, and himself! WHAT IS WITH THESE PEOPLE??? I wouldn't leave my cat or dog outside alone (even tied up), not for a minute! And some asshole leaves a 1000 pound horse standing out on a NYC street, in cross-town traffic, unattended and untied??? ARE THEY NUTS???? The answer is: YES. AND IGNORANT TOO, AND SADISTIC, and also...THEY DON'T CARE

  • I don't have an agenda. the drivers have agenda. I don't have to be a DVM to know cruelty. what is wrong is to have this horse in such a inhumane city with no pasture tied to this "stable". that was the point of this video. it is a cope out to say someone needs to know an horse anatomy to recognize cruelty. I am not a doctor but when I see my friend limping I know she is injured somehow.

  • No, it fact they just took down the video they posted of them harassing a young girl and an elderly woman. they harass people from filming the abuse. I hope you think as well as the source of information. these drivers care about their pockets and not about the welfare of these horses. they even sue the city to stop the horses restricted to the park. Do some basic googling and you will read all the reported accidents and how this industry fights for its money and not for the horses.

  • On another note, it wasn't okay. I never it was okay. I said it was stupid. I also said the carriage driver was being a jerk. I did say that there may have been more provocation than that little snippet of video showed. Think before speak (write) please.

  • From what I could see. The angle on his hooves looked good and they looked trimmed well. There was nothing obvious. However, I should have added the qualifier that I couldn't be sure since I couldn't actually walk over to the horse and pick up his feet. Also, he seemed to be distributing his weight fairly evenly as he move around. Although it appeared he was standing on a slant(?, which could have been just the camera angle), which I would try not to do, especially on that surface.

  • Even a DVM would not give a diagnosis based on this video alone. Even a podiatrist makes you walk as part of his exam. If the carriage drivers have nothing to hide then why are they attacking activists from filming. Those horses in NYC don't even has a pasture. The are tied outside the building as this horse. Bound to a carriage, bound to those small stalls and bound to this building. shame on NYC

  • Diagnose: To determine the identity of (a disease, illness, etc.) by a medical examination: I.E. The veterinarian diagnosed the lameness as laminitis caused by trauma.

I wasn't making a diagnosis. I was speculating about the general maintenance the horse received. I wouldn't make a guess at a problem until I had viewed the horse from all angles moving at a walk and trot, and then picked up his feet to look myself. Don't imply that I don't know what I am talking about until you do.

  • Poor horse it looks so frightened and alone!

  • Do you spend time with horses? I have four. "Frightened and alone", what specious speculation is this? He looks relaxed and bored, and downright sleepy at the end. He looks fit, healthy, clean and groomed, and at a good weight. His feet look good, and he has a conformation that is suitable for his job, (although a little light in my opinion.) The 'discomfort' is almost certainly flies, (which are everywhere, can't get away from that.) So, they should hit him with the fly spray. Not cruel.

  • poor thing...=[...... how can they do that to a beautiful creature that makes their living its just so wrong!

  • i can see this beautiful horse is in discomfort, exhausted and in pain. this makes me very angry!!!! this needs to stop!!!!!!!!!!!

  • That is heartbraking! Horses don't deerve that! They deserve to be running in a green pasture with endless supplies to food and water, not standing on concrete getting eaten by flies!

  • There are horse drawn carriages here in Louisville, Kentucky also. I've seen them downtown while at college. It's really sad their stables are so small, but the main reason this is so dangerous/inhumane now a days is the large amount of traffic and the inability of people to drive. They drive like crazies, and 99.9% of them have no idea how a horse thinks or reacts to situations in general, therefore they still drive like maniacs, if not worse when a horse is around b/c it is just "pretty"

  • Needless to say, I would love to see carriage rides banned everywhere, for the safety of the horses and to allow them to run in the country like horses should be able to :).

  • in NYC, they drive crazy and I have seen horse drawn carriage in time square when the traffic is massive. what abuse. i am ashamed of NYC, we have a heartless mayor

  • Me, too! It's just awful! this poor horse does NOT look healthy!

  • the majority agrees with that but we have some heartless politicians that cater to some lobbyists.

  • Man did you see the flies abusing that poor horse! That's it! I'm going to petition for a ban on flies. That poor creature would never have to endure the abuse of those callous heartless flies if it had been in the country, retired in a field! This is an abomination! Call the Mayor!

  • Of course someone close to J.C.Cutter whose license was not renewed would make light of the horse cruelty in NYC.

  • The horse is just waiting for his stall to be cleaned. And by the way, horses sleep standing up. If a horse lies down for more than 30 minutes it may die from crushing its own ribcage or have serious respiratory and circulatory problems. That's why if a horse lays down (for colic, e.g.) they must be encouraged (strongly) to get back up on their feet. It's like giving CPR to person. It looks violent, but it is lifesaving.

  • yes, but the horse does need to eventually lie for at least 15 minutes a day. Also that stable looks so tinier than a jail cell

  • That is not true, horses do not "need" to lie down for 15 min. everyday. You need to brush up on your basic equine health care.

  • You need to learn about horses since horses need REM sleep .Horses must lie down to reach REM sleep. They only have to lie down for an hour or two every few days to meet their minimum REM sleep requirements.[11] However, if a horse is never allowed to lie down, after several days it will become sleep-deprived, and in rare cases may suddenly collapse as it involuntarily slips into REM sleep while still standing.[

  • 13] This condition differs from narcolepsy, though horses may also suffer from that disorder.

Horses sleep better when in groups because some animals will sleep while others stand guard to watch for predators. A horse kept entirely alone may not sleep well because its instincts are to keep a constant eye out for danger.

  • I already know that the NYC carriage driver send you here to spew your lies. she tell people that if they get rid of us then they will get rid of you. you should be ashamed of yourself for condoning horse abuse. read NYC audit report the confirm the suffering of these horses.

  • The humanrace is sick, we treat our products like cars, clothes, jewelry and furniture better than animals.

It's time people learn that animals are spirited beings capable of (complex)emotions.

Their nervesystem is sharper than ours, they can hear and see better so I think they experience abuse even more intense than we do.

  • this is an example of little the drivers and owners care about their "products". Surely, if they saw it as an animal with feelingsa nd needs, they couldn't abuse them everyday! As for VampyreScream, would you leave a baby unattended when cleaning their home? These horses are like babies as they have no voice or power to speak for themselves. THANKS TO THE FILMING OF THESE SICK CONDITIONS, WE CAN SEE THEIR LIVES BEHIND THE MOVIES!

  • just so people know, certain carriage co. in nyc do send their horses out to the country for months of the year and cycle the horses out as such.

  • But some of them don't and even some of them double shift their horses

  • Please! What business focused on profit puts its' profit makers on months long vacation? Even if this were validated by a 3rd party vs. industry propaganda, HORSES NEED PASTURE EVERY DAY! THEY ARE HERD ANIMALS WHO REQUIRE MOVING FREELY W/O BEING CONFINED TO A CARRIAGE BEFORE GOING TO A SUBSTANDARD "STABLE" - A WAREHOUSE W/ STALLS SMALLER THAN WHAT THEY NEED. THEY NEED 12X12 STALLS TO FULLY STRETCH AND SLEEP. STANDING NAPS ARE NOT ENOUGH FOR THE ANY HORSE ESPECIALLY THOSE DOING SUCH HORID WORK!

  • I was about to tell iderbus the same thing but you beat me to it. Well said, my friend.

  • The city is absolutely no place for a horse.

It is dangerous and nothing like living in the countryside, in a pasture.

The flies are probably there because, I'm going to guess, either the stables are filthy or there are trash cans nearby. Either way, that horse should have a fly mask and fly jacket because they are really bothering her/him.

  • Oh but dont get me wrong. I agree that the horse drawn carriages need to go. It's simply too dangerous for both the horses and the people of NYC. Maybe if it was in a place that was so congested and all, then great. But NYC is no place for a horse and buggy. Nor is Chicago or (and I hate to say it) New Orleans.

    Just too dangerous.

  • I agree with you, cities aren't places for horses.Horses are nervous animals, and the traffic is dangerous.I remember years ago I went to Charleston SC same damm thing.I think it is time to do away with horse drawn carriages, and replace them with something else-such as some type of bus or something.

  • honestly.... you guys are bitching over the horse standing there without considering why it is standing there. Can you all not hear the pressure washers? That's what that hissing sound is. Obviously, it's stall is being cleaned.

    sheesh...

  • OMG i would of walked passed and stole the horse!

just leave it on the street like that! were cars are i feel sorry for the horses in he citys in amercia the oens in our city in melbroune only work on weekends and come up form the country floated

and cared for how can peaple do this?

  • omg i feel so bad for that poor horse

  • thanks for your kindness, too bad the drivers in NYC don't share your feelings.

  • it looks in pain poor thing

  • they shouldn't leave a horse unatended that long...They proubly never send them to a grassy place every once in a while.Poor thing proubly never has a break from the city. All those cars can be stressful...Well at least they are fed & shod...

  • awe.=[poor thing...

&& VV I do aggree that its biting at flys..but ive never seen a horse stomp their foot that often over flys...

and that horse does it every 2 seconds..

  • It looks to me like its feet are hurting, is it in pain? poor thing.

  • nope, it's stomping and biting at flies. when their feet hurt, they hold the leg up that hurts or lean way back. this horse is standing upright. all we have here is a horse being bit by flies. that would happen on the open range, as well. flies need to eat, too. won't someone think of the flies?! seriously, you cannot draw accurate conclusions from propaganda videos. if you want to know what condition the horses are in, hire veterinarians to examine them all. then draw conclusions.

  • Man, i feel so sorry for them, having to sit there, day after day in a cramped city and doing nothing but there life but giving some fat ass ny'ers a ride, i bet they get all scared because of the cars and stuff... not to mention crazy drivers!

  • thank you for your compassion, please spread the word so the abuse can end. peace and love

  • HorsesInNYC,

do you record all of these videos yourself?

If so, why don't you talk to the people who operate the horse carriages?

  • Yes, I have done these recordings. There is a movie "blinders", the trailer is posted in YouTube. I hear that the industry did not want to meet with the filmmaker. Anyhow, I feel if people see the cruel side of this industry in NYC that they may realize a carriage ride is no fun for a horse. Honestly, I read and even hear from the ASPCA, that after years of trying to work with this industry, they realized that a ban is necessary in NYC

  • poor thing this is terrible

  • thank you for feeling for the horse. Please pass the word around that a carriage ride in NYC is no fun for the horse.

  • This is insane. no way for a horse to live. Although, probably the first time in a long time that this poor horse has been unshackled from the carriage and a life of double-shifting.

  • Do they have rats in the stables in New York City?? I was told the stables in Chicago are overrun with rats.

  • That's a long tail! Poor guy needs it for all the flies!
