but i've gotta say, hearing this gives me a better appreciation of what jagger brings to the table - nobody can make this song sound as filthy as mick, and let's be frank, it's a song about euphebophilia
covering the stones is like trying to sink a 50-foot putt - it's easy to get it near the hole but impossible to nail it
@Andymalcolm1 hell no man there good but alice in chains when layne was still breathin was the gretest grunge rock metal whut ever u wanna call it band there was
I'm not sure if I'm hearing things, but to me it sounds like Cornell has a bad habit of trying to imitate the person's voice whose song he's covering. Not all of them obviously, case in point being the Come Together cover where Chris rips it. But on a lot of other covers, like the very beginning of this, he tries to keep the vocals in the wrong wheelhouse. When he just lets go, like halfway through this song, it's fucking brilliant.
Sorry to answer to your question so late, I didn't notice that my point of view had aroused such reactions... Just listen to the Stones, it has that sexual tension which is nomore present in Soundgarden cover and I confirm that I like Soundgarden... Sorry to be able to criticize what or who I like !
No need to be so defensive. I was just curious about your reasons, is all. I have no problems with criticism, but my only point was good criticism includes justifications.
That's Okey ! I just didn't think that saying it's disappointing is really a criticism... I didn't say it's awful ! ;-) I'm just disappointed cause I think they could have done better... ;-) Happy New Year !
this is great

Cornell and Mark Lanegan are my favorites from that time frame in my world...both will go down as two of the best frontmen of bands...

@MultiNickDanger That's right. This version isn't badly done, but it's completely forgettable in comparison to Mick's vocals on the original version.

@MultiNickDanger I like your simile.

Comes pretty damn close to topping the original. The Howling Dogs' version is great, too.

It's true.
Chris Cornell is one of the best vocalists of all time, he doesn't need to copy things exactly.
