  • Many were inspired her and though it's seldom mentioned, definitely Peggy Lee in both style and delivery.

  • Fascinating video of a "super nova" star. I just think of the nerve, the glamor, as well as the intelligence that comes through in Mae West's delivery here. She was truly unique and you just can't take your eyes off of her. This is what star power is all about! The flame for stars like her is indeed eternal! Thanks for posting.

  • @Thunderstormwitch - Well put! So glad you enjoyed it.

  • Mae West loved being dressed! she loved being photographed as well. She had such

a magic that illuminated before audiences. Her full featured beauty was refined and

classic. Yet she was down to earth like a family friend, with a kindness that warmed

your heart.Mae West was the best` because she had true talent thats hard to find

    today.

  • @musique1975 Mae was definitely a Blonde Bombshell, along with Jean Harlow. They are both beautiful, talented and among my favorite actresses. But Mae had been around for quite sometime before Harlow. From early in the century, she had been writing, producing, starring and honing her persona on Broadway in plays that later turned into her films out of Hollywood. She was one of a kind, and never tried to compete with the rest of the blondies of that era.

  • This woman not only had it all but she just personified solidly what a star could and should be! Indeed she was a super nova that was white hot! Wow! Thanks for posting!

  • I saw the movie the other day and was struck by her rendition. So I decided to hear all of the sung version (and some just instrumental) here at the tube. Verdict: West rules. Her way of accentuating and giving vibrato at the same time to some of the words thrills me like no other version, Holiday included.

  • She reincarnated into Chrissy Hynde:

"it's just the night in my veins"

  • What a haunting and beautiful old song -- and with funny lyrics!

  • Her voice was amazing. Why anyone would prefer Monroe's soft baby-talk to West's characteristic accent is beyond me!

  • @theyforcedmetosignup they're both sexy in their own way! but mae west was undeniably the stronger personality, and her voice is so funny and awesome, i love it

  • The Duke and Mae! How great is that?

This movie is loosely based on the life of Lulu White, the madam of the ritzy New Orleans bordello Mahogany Hall. The real Lulu was mixed race (black & white) and not as pretty as Mae West, but well known for her fancy dresses and diamond jewelry.

  • @w9j15g - wonderful to know, thank you!

  • Thank You so much for posting these Mae West videos! I love her! :)

  • You are welcome! Glad you're enjoying them.
