the k9 treated the mailman as an invasion to its HOME where it lives....so that is why it did not obey commands because its protective instincts on its home turf overrode obedience. the k9 associated obedience in such cases outside of the home, at work. my guess.
um, why was a trained and licensed police dog just running loose in the front garden??? He should have been in a kennel or under the direct and immediate control of his handler ie on a lead or a couple of feet away at the most.

Um ... we are hating the deed. This dog attacked a man and injured him quite badly. They also said that it wasn't an isolated incident. The dog has proven itself to be a loose cannon despite years of extremely strict training.
So yeah. The dog could stand to be put down, especially if his handlers can't influence him. It's not worth another torn face or injured person. What if the next time was a child?
