  • That is NOT how you wash rice. You are wrong and that is a safety hazzard. You must not be a real chef.

  • Arigatou Shuji-san, benkyo ni narimashita :)

  • Thanks, very this was very helpful We did not wash our rice growing up. Can't you just use long grain rice and not rinse it. Or should you still rinse long grain rice too?

  • @bwcjjr1 Short grain and long grain rice have different texture and flavour. If I don't wash my Japanese short grain rice then the rice boils over the pot. I think it has to do with the starch coating forming bubbles. Also, if I don't wash my rice, it comes out more sticky and lumpy instead of fluffy. It is as if the starch formed a glue.

  • Thanks for this very informative video!

  • @xxxdieselyyy Thanks for watching my video and for your comment. New video of how to cook Japanese rice to be uploaded soon! Shuji

  • How do you boil/steam your rice after washing it using this method? Do you keep it simmering while it cooks, or do you turn off the heat from your stove while it cooks?

  • What kind of sushi do you make? what seafood do you use for sushi?

  • @dafranx I make seasonal sushi. In May I make hoba-zushi with grilled salmon.

The video is being shown on Sean Sakamoto's channel.

  • WOW! A great purpose for using "rice water". I never knew "rice water" can be healthier and more nutritious, for plant life. :-D

  • Rice rinsed water can also be used to boil daikon, white radish and takenoko, bamboo shoots. It helps to tenderize tough vegetables and removes excess wild flavour called aku of bamboo shoots while boiling the root vegetables.

  • thank you.

Is starchy water really better for he plants?
