Intermittent audio. video also freezes. long gaps before resumption of the song. for me audio is very important. i am not keen of video. Would it be possible to down load a few of You Tube's songs? Please do put up a reply note! Thanks!!! Srinivasan (Srini071142@yahoo.com and gsrinivasan071142@gmail.com. 06 September 2011.
I remember this song when I was a young new mama, singing along with the car radio. So nice to find this oldie on here, love the turntable! ♥ Ya just slow down! LOL ♥
Happy Hanukkah. Thanks for putting this on with the actual vid of this groovy old record player--I'm observing Hanukkah this year and this my Dreidel Song!
I remember when this song came out in '72. People either loved or hated it. It had very thought provoking lyrics. But it wasn't a "groovy" song at all. It demanded attention. You couldn't play it at a party or dance to it. In the late 60's, this would have been a big hit. But by '72 people didn't want to think, they just wanted to party. Even Stevie Wonder's great Living For The City the next year only made it to #8.
gregbarrett9 thanks for the upload, another goody from the self titled "Don Mc Lean" long player, Correct me if I'm wrong but I think D. M. was not altogether happy about this particular release, somthing about being pretentious! I, of course disagree, I like to hear him get a little up tempo, almost rockin' out! Plus, I really enjoy his guitar work! Plus, if you don't like his vocals, my only advice: Clean out your ears! Thanks to: Y T gb9 and the irrepresible Dapper Don Mc R.S.O.,
I heard this last week on my XM 70s on 7 channel. Its the best!!! This week on Casey Kasems was "this week 1972" and this song was in the top 40.....I had not heard it maybe since then... But remembered it instantly...I love my XMs 70 on 7... If you listened to top 40 back in the day this is a GREAT channel.... I love it
I know it was late January-early February of 1973 because my brother was getting ready to take the California Bar Exam when I heard it. "Your'e so Vain" was another song on the charts at that time. The winter bar is given around Feb 23
GREAT song, terrific production, brilliant vocal. And to think it was pretty much his last brush with Top 40 (apart from that overblown "Cryin" cover much later). He was certainly among the most talented singer-songwriters of that era--never understood why he wasn't accorded the respect/career longevity of James Taylor, etc.
Don Mclean never fails to surprise with the sudden twists n turns that he takes us along through his melodious voice!!! True Genius!!!

I agree with Juliano 66 - this Dreidel wasn't made out of clay! This is stone rock & roll and a rich slice of American Pie!

When this song came out, I couldn't wait to hear it on the radio. But it never moved up the charts, much to my disappointment. Great tune.
