  • I can't do this stretch, when I have the other leg bent to the side, I just fall over to the other side cos it's so stiff! I REALLY need some help with this issue. I've stretched for 3 years for martial arts but I'm not having progress and I believe I might have some weird problem with this that is causing the lack of progress with splits as well.

  • Many people don't understand the hurdler's stretch. I use it and teach. A person need to the hip prepared for this stretch. If that is the case, the knee will not be in danger. Hurdler's stretch also tilt's the pelvis in a more functional way, then unilateral sit and reach.

Reaching back is a totally different issue.

Not having strengthened the hips and doing that could cause problems.

Notice your front leg has a turn out, that means you are not ready to do this stretch.

  • lol!!!! his doing the excerises complitly wrong a true hrulder can bring his chin to his kneew and a complitly streched leg! (sorry for my spelling mistakes)

  • You can't injure yourself stretching?

  • yes you can, the whole point of stretching is to warm yourself up. So there's no point doing a stretch that doesn't test you, if you over estimate your flex and go with a stretch that's too hard it causes injury because your muscles aren't used to that level of difficulty.
