  • sad to see Eddie attended this massive nationalist event of propaganda... he must have been shocked and lost his critical analyse... like all of us actually !

  • This is what healing sounds like.

  • holy... this is a beautiful song... ")

  • Seeing this video takes me back to the first couple of weeks after 9/11. It seemed like everyone was numb with shock over what happened and took a long time for things to settle down.

But we should remember 5/2/2011 which was the day we got Bin Ladin.

  • exquisite!! love this!! beauty

  • Neil Young i love you

  • eddie loves Neil and I love both of them.Ttwo people that mean a lot concerning music and humanity.....Carry on!

    tom

  • omg the godfather of grunge(Neil) and the voice of a generation.(Vedder).. simply amazing those voice save any soul :)

  • i watch this every year.

  • his version with Nusret Fatih is also very amazing and but overall he is always awesome. "There is not need to say good bye"

  • a la mierda se parece a bruce springstten

  • Who the fuck would dislike this??

    9-11-01 Never Forget

  • This is such an amazing song. I can remember listening to it many times over after the 9/11 attacks. All I could think about is the people trapped in those towers after the planes hit. Almost as if it was in slow motion....with this song playing in the background. The flames and smoke spreading upwards to every floor, and the horrible decision that some had to make...to jump from the building instead of face the flames. I hope that their last moments were as peaceful as this song. God bless.

  • eddie looks a bit like elvis this way

  • Eddie Vedder is perhaps the only singer that whenever I listen him with Late Sir Nusrat Fatih.........Eddie just had the upper hand. He is awesome awesome...........

  • the best

  • tjonge tjonge

  • listening to this song is like attending your own funeral...

  • The best songs grab you, simple, complex, whatever...this one just moves me so much...It is one of my favorites...along with Comfortably Numb!

  • Look at that short hair... WOW!

  • thts a classic..

  • Songs like this is not especially hard to write.Give me 10 minutes.

    But the result is ok.

  • @ShareTheSphere youve had five fucking days since your comment yet nothing false prophet

  • @richoandlisa Why should I write a harmonically unintresting song.

I write music and for instance the tune I´m currently working on has taken me and the band 6-7 years to finish and it´s 18 minutes long.

I guess you would not care about that.

But we are not looking for a huge mass of of random listeners.

We want those genuinly intrested in exploring what is great , coming to our concerts.

Those 3-4 chords songs can be nice, but they are not very profound.

But I like Pink Floyd for an example.

  • @ShareTheSphere this song has one chord...G for great....if u disagree then G T F O....i bet nobody cares about your 18minute song.....not because you arent eddie vedder but because you probably have no musical talent and it sucks, try covering a pearl jam song then maybe someone will care

  • @vedderclone I don´t want someone like you to care what I do.

"pearl jam" that would be very easy.,It´s commersial simple and unintresting, whatever they come up with

  • @ShareTheSphere you just proved your lack of musical taste.......you play techno in your mom's basement? you fail nub go away now....buh bye

  • @vedderclone No , I´ve been writing music for 30 years

  • @ShareTheSphere 30 years of failure, find a new argument cause im done....you lost

  • @ShareTheSphere snooty pants!

  • @ShareTheSphere

Oh god, seriously? So a song can only be good when you do a long time about making it?

a song 18 minutes long is way to long in my opinion. Unless it's a really good song, which is not repetitive the whole time.

Well I've heard some songs, that are written in a few minutes that are really good.

And the solo of comfortably numb was done by a few practise solos put together. They didn't take 6 to 7 years to make an awesome song...

But nevertheless let me hear that song =)

  • @articachicken There you are completely wrong about comfortably numb, I listened to an interview with roger waters about syd barret.

One point was that what you might hear on a record was the result of many many years of developing technique and creating a playing style through different licks or musical ideas.

I like a masterpiece like this one ..his best: /watch?v=531VvNAB5LY

You will hear our song as soon the demo is done.

    It´s not horsemanure.

  • For me it is like building a house A song should have some sort of fundament and then very interesting design both on the inside and outside.

For me a song like this is like having shelter made by cardboard.

It works but you get fed up up after living in it for to long.

  • eddie vedder e neil young...otimos...verdadeiros mestres da musica mundial...

  • Je suis sur et certain que Eddie est conscient de sa chance de performer avec Neil...

  • His song and his voice capture the darkness, the emptiness and the pain of losing a loved one (in any situation).

  • Two of the best songwrites ever. Almost like father and son............

  • Beautiful <3

  • the not-likers have no taste, clearly, and probably bad personalities too...they'd have to be just downright negative to come up with the urge to not like ANYTHING Eddie... we should actually be feeling sorry for them i guess! :)

  • the not-likers have no taste, clearly, and probably bad personalities too...they'd have to be just downright negative to come up with the urge to not like ANYTHING Eddie... we should actually be feeling sorry for them i guess! :)

  • what did i just hear? i listened to this 6 times in a row. music to my ears

  • Beautiful

  • Brilliant. End of.

  • I'd like to find tose 12 "not likers" and look into their eyes.

Punch them in the face would be correct, but look straight into their eyes would be better, AND worse.

    Idiots.

  • when I hear Eddie sing, I can feel that everything is better

  • @soulrebelroots amen to that! It seems like everything Eddie does turns to gold for me. When my ex left me "alive", "black", and "release" were (are) what kept me going. "just breathe" is what kept me going when i found out my mom had cancer. "even flow" is my jam when i wanna rock out, "indifference" is my song when im in a pensive mood, "yellow ledbetter" is the song i relax to, and "dirty frank" is for when i feel a bit silly and wanna dance! In short, No one gets me quite like Eddie <3

  • Preciosa Cancion!!!! interpretacion genial de Vedder!!! Saludos desde Argentina y España!!!

  • i walk

  • My two all time favourite singer songwriters Love & Light

  • @silverlight00 Mine too !!!!!! Love both !!!!!

  • There is no other way to put it.. Eddie is one of a kind, no one like him thank goodness... one amazing man!

  • er ist und bleibt einfach der GRÖSSTE

    mehr feeling geht nicht...............

  • I saw them in 2009 and they opened with this, it was amazing.

  • How I wished for you today

  • god, i love this song. It reminds me of how much i miss my grandmother

  • Where is Lou Reed?

  • awesome... long live king vedder

  • remember watching this when it was first transmitted, still sends shivers down the spine

  • JULIA ROBERTS FACE.

  • @21591brian Yeah, wtf...

  • I have to say, I am also in love with EV! This performance just blows me away-it was such a tragic time, and when you listen to this song, you can feel what everyone was feeling.

  • I'm so wickedly in love with this man(E.V) that I refer to him as my second husband....I'm still married to the first one.lol How I wish for you today.....

  • to thebeans00, yeah you! How old are you, just old enough to say dirty words? Neil Young is a legend, why so you think he's in this video with Eddie Vedder? He's still going strong after more than 30 years and he will be on the stage till he dies. Eddie Vedder will do the same, I'm sure. He's awesome. My 3 sons, all in their 30's think the same.

  • Aaah yes, it brings a tear to my eye.. long live Eddie!! :-)

  • I don't know man looked like a pretty good shot of them together at 2:05 with Neil in the background

  • @thebeans00 You spelled shriveled wrong ya dumb ass

  • bittersweet video. one of the best performances of this song, but such a terrible day in history.

  • I am a musician and I wish in my soul and heart that one day I will be jamming with Eddie Vedder....Please universe...make it happen....I deserve it!!!!

  • It's probably been said before but the way they're facing opposite directions adds to how cool this is.

Oh, and Mike McCreadey is also there -- he should get credit!

  • @TomFromJersey it wouldnt be so cool of they were facing the same way, as Neil is on keys. Typical of a keys player to be side face on stage, as is the case here.

    From a Pedantic youtube idiot.

  • I still remember watching this on tv and how everyone at my apartment broke into tears during this. Im talking 20 something hawaiian guys even. Music can reach anyone, even the most "tough".

  • Check out Neil goin nuts in the background haha, love em both!!

  • If eddie vedder sang for 24 hours, 7 days a week...I would listen!!!

  • holy shit...

    that's eddie vedder??

    I would've never known!

  • this makes me cry for people killed, people struggling to survive, and most of all for the rest of us who take everything for granted.

life is so very short, start practicing saying "I Love You" again and again.

  • @chickenjojo - agreed, and you don't have to even say it, just practice it in actions. You can do that to friends, family, and even strangers. What a great place it would be to build love and trust amongst all men.

  • If this song doesnt make you think of someone special that has left you behind in this world then you just havent lost that person yet.......i love and miss you dad.

  • sweet song

  • His voice is so good he doesn't even need lyrics, yet his lyrics are so good :)

  • Needs Nusrat. RIP

  • Man, Eddie hangs with the right crowd!

  • Love seeing him with Neil young

  • Eddie is so talented beyond words and worlds

  • neils just goin nuts in the background!

  • Eddie Vedder is a way of life. MY way of life

  • touches something deep inside me, gives me chills, makes everything thats dark in the world go away... just for the briefest of moments

  • 9/11 can you say INSIDE JOB? WTC 7. Hmmmmmmmmm.

  • This song and Bruce Springsteen's song to start this DVD are incredible!!! Eddie Vedder's voice is pretty great eh???

  • Eddie Vedder the Legend of Legends!!!

  • man, eddie looks great in this.

  • There will NEVER be another WHITE Eddie Vedder.

  • I love eddie vedder because is a simple man,

  • GOD I love Eddie's voice......sigh.....

  • people! shut the fuck up and listen! you are fortunate enough to have some awesome music playing, so listen to that instead of bitching.

  • @mason792

yknow youre bitching by posting that, right?

  • @SomethingOriginal91 ya to get people back in line. seems to have worked, so i think i was justified.

  • @mason792

fair enough. just pointing out the "irony", although its irony in the alanis morissette kind of way.

  • THAT is Eddie Vedder? He shoulda cut off that grunge hair LONG ago--he is HOT!

  • @TranscendingFate1 LOLOL....he IS hot huh? But even with the long hair he is hot. That voice.....

  • this is truly the best version of this song.

  • There will never be another Eddie, another Pearl Jam, another Band like them....PERIOD!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thank you Eddie and Neil !! so great ! thanks for posting!

  • perfection

  • perfection

  • Can't it just be about the music?

  • MUSICA e POESIA............insieme, strettamente insieme

  • Iraq War-Invasion-From events leading up to the United Nations told the world that Iraq refused inspection of their facilities and then dumped it in US's lap to get to why they were refusing access to facilities.

US had a problem with Sadam Husien and used it as access point.

  • 4:17 of chills....period

  • OMG ITS TIM ALLEN o wait its Eddie Vedder.....even better!

  • Poetic Geniuses! i love these guys, they truly are the greatest performers i have ever seen... keep on rocking in the free world Neil & Ed(ddie)

  • Jeez Eddie, I was told before by a guy I know who met you that on a political level, or indeed any level of any intelligence that you were a dumbass. Now here's the proof. I thought you were smarter than that....interesting definition of heroes, doesn't take much these days apparently....good tune though, is it about the millions of people killed by the U.S war machine? sigh.....poor silly brainwashed yanks....

  • @taoibhban This song was written about 6 years before this was played. While he is politically motivated, you would realised, if you decided to find out, that he was strongly against the bush campiagn. But I guess everyone's entitled to there own opinion.

  • @bondy50. I know man, Been listening to the Jam for a long time. I also know he was against the Bush Campaign, I just don't believe he actually knew why was against it. Taking part in this homage to clueless Nationalism, for shame. I hope he explained to the kids at home why 9/11 happened, probably not, probably said 'God Bless America' or something like that. Silly Eddie, stick to the tunes man, because politically you have the World view of an adolescent. It's dangerous, be quiet Eddie!

  • @taoibhban If anyone should be quiet it's you republicans! Ignorant buffoons the lot of you!

  • @RebelThoughts - Are you thick! wtf makes you think I'm a Republican??? In the same sentence you call me an 'Ignorant buffoon'! Seriously 'RebelThoughts', what the the hell ARE you talking about...you seem as sharp as Mr. Vedder on World Politics...sharp like a sponge. REPUBLICAN!!!! WHAT!!!! Explain yourself? Seriously! I'd bet money you can't. I'm Irish, not a yank, and if you think I'm an Irish Republican you're a million miles off. I hate Nationalism in all forms. EXPLAIN YOURSELF! dimwit...

  • @RebelThoughts retard.

  • @RebelThoughts Naw broseph. You're all a bunch of idiots. There's no such thing as a rebel by the way, merely aristocrats in disguise.

  • This hair and getting older fits Eddie Vedder. And of course it is a great song.

  • I have wished for so long.....

How I wish for you today....

  • THANX U FOR THIS POST JANUNUSKA. NIEL YOUNG..GRANDPAPPY OF GRUNDGE WIT VEDDER..KLASSIX

  • This was a good song to put on the CD. If anybody reads this comment, go pick up "America: A Tribute To Heroes" It is a two disc set made in memory of 9/11, has a bunch of amazing artists and songs on it. I have no idea if it's still out there, probably a limited thing, so anyone who has those CD's got to hear some rare performances.

  • I WOULD LOVE TO MARRY YOU EDDIED VETTER AND IF YOU LOVE ME COME ON DOWN!!!! ROCK AND ROLL FOEVER! KEPP ON ROCKIN THE FREE WORLD WITH U2 AND NEIL YOUNG, AND MY FRESHEST PICK RIGHT NOW AT THIS SECOND, PEARL JAM!!! i LOVE YOU MUSIC!!

  • Great song for this particular occasion. I remember watching this almost 9 years ago... God bless all those who died on 9/11

  • Great song. Perfect for this occasion.

  • Excellent!!!!!!!

  • Eddie is so cute. I think I have a crush. His lips are pretty. I want to kiss him.

  • To my Shawn. You sent this song to me once and now it plays in my heart every time you aren't with me.

  • TFOR THE HEROES

  • RIP Joan nos vemos pa alla

  • @brelfan

I'm not angry at all, actually its very rare that i show my anger. The only reason I commented in the first place is that you presume to know what makes good lyrics and are criticizing a musician that is world famous. The fact that your argument made no sense (that there are no seams on roads) only exacerbated the my derogatory opinion of you. You sound like a person who thinks they know a lot but in actuality only fool themselves into

  • Oops. Left two typos in my last post. Man. Anyway... Eddie Vedder gets the emotion correct. He's right on. It's as if, though, he writes while smoking weed. He doesn't quite think through every comparison. You can argue that roads have seams because they have lines. But folks are far more likely to say, "dead possum on the road." than "seams on the road." We associate seams with clothing. But I like Eddie Vedder a lot.

  • @brelfan

YOU associate seams with clothing because you are closed minded and obviously are not well versed in the english language. Go read some books.

  • @BGLDESIGNS Huh? YOU have anger issues. You're also disassociating from reality.

  • @brelfan

thinking this because they are too lazy to properly educate themselves. You make arguments and express opinions only for the sake of arguing and making yourself and others think your smart but in reality sound ignorant and uneducated. It would help not criticizing people who are professionals in their chosen realm, especially when you are talking about their words and you can't even come up with, let alone spell out a coherent argument. Again, i say, go read some books.

  • @BGLDESIGNS You don't know me. Yet you think you know what I do for a living and what I'm like. How many books I've read. You're in a world of your own devising. I waste time on Youtube. Gives me something to do other than work. YouTube is a place for opinions from people like me, wasting time at work. What's YOUR problem? Why do you feel the need to judge and insult people you never met?

  • @BGLDESIGNS Are you one of these artists stalking me or are you in a public relations team stalking me? How do you know what I say? If you don't like negative opinions, don't post videos on YouTube.

  • Two worthy spokesmen for Americana.

  • @lastdaysguitar Neil is canadian

  • @DanielT995 Dan, check your map: Canada is in North America.

  • magic

  • that was a creepy shot of julia roberts at the beginning!

  • I almost saw some big teeth there at the front.

  • From Dead Man Walking / Sean Penn

  • m not like this one.....i like nusrat fathe ali khan & Eddie Vedder version..

  • brelfan:

You are such an idiot and an embarassment to yourself. Go away! You know nothing about Eddie, clearly, or his lyrics, or even English, for that matter. You make no sense, gramatically, and your spelling is a joke. "Beatufiful" and "compulisively". Really? You don't sound smart at all. What joke of a college let you in with your skills? BTW, I actually graduated from college with a B.A. in English.

  • @moosehose FuI'm a reporter. Just don't take the time to spell check for a stupid YouTube commentary to assholes like you.

  • Great song ,great singing ! Thanks.

  • Really love a few of his songs and performances. What keeps him from being a great lyracist, in my mind, is sometimes he confuses the metaphors. For instance, just listened to a song about... uh... can't remember. Anyway, he's taking about meeting a woman and says, "I am the better man." When... well he's met a woman. Small things, I suppose. This song extremely moving. Love his deep voice.

  • the songs called betterman. he wrote it when he was about 17, and it doesn't say "i am the better man" it says "cant find a betterman" reffering to his mum and her abusive boyfriend. your dumb.

  • @Edddh No, not that one. Something less memorable. Little things. For instance, in a song i LOVE, best song on losing a parent I know of, Man of the Hour, he says roads have "seams." How many roads have seams? Shirts have seams. I think Vedder's lyrics are beatufiful sometimes. But these little quirks keeps him from, say, nearing Paul Simon level. But hey, I listen to this and Man of the Hour compulisively from time to time. So I love them.

  • @brelfan

Roads have seams you idiot. Try googling things once in a while, a crack in the road or when two roads intersect and one is elevated an inch or so above the other, there is a seam there also dummy. English major? More like your lying and dropped out of high school because it was too hard for your tiny brain.

  • @BGLDESIGNS Whether I'm an idiot, or spell correctly in every instance, has little to do with the FACT that I majored in English and have been a writer for 10+ years. What good is your bluster an instults doing? ARE you Eddie Vedder? If so, DO like your stuff. You're on of the better ones. Still, you have a problem with nonsensical metaphors. THE FACT that you do is not my fault or problem.

  • For an artists to say, well, you know, the listeners get my drift and I like this... again, that's okay for someone less smart and gifted than Eddie Vedder. Hate to sound like an English major, but of course I was. And people who love music and poetry think well of Eddie Vedder. At least I do. The only young person, if you can still call him that, that I've spent my own money to listen to.

  • @heymanniceshot1 he sings it on "hard sun" from into the wild soundtrack. but , he didnt write that song. its a cover

  • gorgeous...oh and I love his music too :-)

  • There will NEVER be another Eddie Vedder.

  • ..a modern day poet of epic proportions

  • @Johnny1154 There will never be another anybody!

  • Never!

  • @Johnny1154 Check this out, Eddy loves him ! ; )

  • @Johnny1154 Nor another Neil Young.

  • @Johnny1154 and there will NEVER be another Neil Young...both are truly Legends who shall never be replaced!!!

  • @Johnny1154 you mean another Neil Young?

  • @Johnny1154

He's been the most inspiring artist of our generation

  • i remember watching this performance on tv 8 years ago..i totally lost it.

  • what was it for

  • this was the live concert performance to raise money for the families of 9/11 victims. it took place a few days after the towers fell.

  • oh ok..tty for the info..

  • Hello, we are FéniX.

    Check us out!!!

    We hope you like it!!!

    Peace

  • Neil does look a little funny rocking back and forth quickly during a slow song

  • yeah he does..ahah...and whats amazing here is that...as im watching it...im thinking about this: how many contemporany rock artists have their heroes backing them on a live performance?..and on top of that backing them with one of their compositions...this was written by eddie & pj..and neil is fucking playing for them..how awesome....fuck....like it or not....to all pj haters out there..only pearl jam can get away with that nowadays...seriously...theyre THAT good....totally

  • Back in 1995, Pearl Jam were the backing band for Neil Young's album Mirror Ball. Later that year, Pearl Jam produced an EP called Merkin Ball that featured two songs that came out of the Mirror Ball sessions, "I Got I.D." (which most of you may know as the Pearl Jam song, "I Got Shit"), and "Long Road" both written by Vedder. Young provided lead guitar to "I Got I.D." and pump organ to "Long Road". Two incredible songs, by an incredible band and one of their idols.

  • yep..already knew that...i'm a HUGE pj fan...greatest band ever besides the stones...they are trully amazing...eddie vedder is the dylan/young of our generation...this perfomance screams "legend" all over the place...
