I'm such a fan of Rick's arsenal (of any era) and the hybrid nature of his post-1984 rigs. Born in the early 80's, I've always liked it when musicians use electronic kits or components. Rick is one of my heros for not allowing some prejudices to phase him.

he is a drummer......its not a surprise on how long it took him....a true drummer can move the information to any limb.....its just that usually ur feet are to busy to play the snare like he is doing......so im sorry but its not a mircale that he can play....im not saying i could use my feet like he is but im not wowed.....but im glad that he could still play the drumset....i want to hear him without his special pedals just to hear him...u know a with and without so i could really hear the dif.

It's so amazing how fast he came back and how he changed his style. He really reinvented himself and reinvented drumming like nobody has ever done before and still to this day. Name me one other drummer who can play like this with one arm. I couldn't play like him with 3 arms. What focus, what determination, what dedication. Absolut Drummer!

I was an avid Def Leppard fan my entire teenage life. Rick Allen was who I was going to "marry" .. all my friends liked Joe Elliott or Rick Savage, but there was something in Rick that I found fascinating... now after reviewing this, I am even more fascinated at age 36 than I was at age 14. Truly an inspiration to anyone who has had a tragedy and overcame it.

What I love most is Rick not trying to re-educate his mind by adding a prosthetic and risking losing the prosthetic during a intense show. He did the best thing what a real embodiment of sheer will and determination to remain the best in his field.

There would be no way to play with a prosthetic, he wouldn't have strenght enought for some stronger hits on the drums with the prosthetic.. and he was really a genious when he created that semi-acoustic drum...

His focus now is on off-grid electricity and water purification for developing countries; another recent project, previewed at TED2007, is a prosthetic arm for maimed soldiers. He's also working on a power source for the wonderful Think car. And, with more funding in the works, we haven't seen the last of the Segway.

One impressive thing about him no one ever mentions is in heavy metal they got double bass and they got rolls like the triple roll, Rick can do that with one foot, Ive also heard him at the finales they do at the end of their concerts do a long extensive steady double bass beat while hes pounding away at the rest of the drums. And by referring to heavy metal I wasnt calling Def Leppard heavy metal, anyone who thinks they are any kind of metal should be torn a new asshole.
