fuck i remember having to read the liner notes inside records and finding crappy magazines to find shit out about bands, now all you faggoty motherfuckers have to do is see someone wearing a shirt, google it and you're an instant expert on the matter and lecture people on the importance of choking victim and the nuances that op ivy brought to the scene. fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu
hahahahahah. Agreed. Back in the 90s you had to research your shit. Now days someone can find out the name of an artist. and through one night of wikipedia they can be an expert the next day.
Dickey still roars in concert I wish on the albums he would stop trying to sing. It what makes the band more then just backgroundcommercial music.
I wish I could go back in time and blow up the year 1996. Ska core offically died that year when dicky and Casillas both stopped using the vocals that made the bands and started using their horrible vocals to actually try to sing.
Dicky=Best voice for roaring in ANY genre
Dicky signing= Extreme crap that makes me miss the days gone past.
The Specials are known as the fathers of what eventually was skacore...anyway, Madness, The Specials, Bosstones and others were amazing, that's what counts, and the music of course...
Nope...the MMB were the ones who said that it was The Special who invented the ska-core and that they followed their footsteps...but, naming their album "ska-core the devil and more" doesn't mean they actually invented the fusion...and as you said, you just got to listening how clean the sound of ska-core is on that MMB record and how it was being developed in the Specials records...ska core didn't born on one record, it was developed with or without knowledge by The Specials and other bands...
love both bands, but the Specials cannot really be compared because they're are in a league all their own, when I listen to them I don't get that punk overtone that I do with MMB, and I love that...ska and punk belong together, spicy and sweet.
First off let me say the Bosstones are amazing they were huge in popularizing the genre here in America but in no way were they founders of the genre not only were they in some cases 15 years later then other bands, they also weren't even close to the first ska bands.
Bosstones kick ass though and were important in popularizing this genre but they werent founders
I actually got up on the stage and "danced" with Ben Carr in Stockholm. It was during the "Let's Face Euro Tour" 1997. Can't say that I'm a huge fan anymore, but I still listen to them from time to time.
I just saw these guys in concert with Dropkick Murphys. The best 40 bucks I ever spent probably! The Bosstones kick ass in concert, especially with good old Ben Carr just up there helping people get themselves moving. People were dancing in their seats even though it was like 90 degrees in Columbia, MD. Sorry we cant have pleasant summer weather like Boston haha
I think what he meant is the Bosstones have had more of a claim to fame. The Bosstones have had songs played in several movies, and Where'd You Go was in one of the Guitar Hero games, and Impression That I Get was in Donkey Konga. They are all great bands but the bosstones are one of the founding bands of the genre.
22 and on the cusp of being a old school motherfucker doing this shit for 10+ years and the only thing i have to show is a nasty cough a damaged liver collection of t shirts and some pretty badass memories
they did a show in rochester ny once('95,maybe?) and at the place they played, the floor underneath the crowd collapsed. if it wasn't for all the piping under it, it would have been ugly. the crowd ripped up pieces of the floor and had them sign it. the lead singer said he had never seen anything like that before. i wasn't a fan, but i have yet to see a crowd go nuts like that. that should go down as rock folklore(i know they're ska, but i'm just sayin...)
the one I went to was 95 I'm pretty sure, and it was at the club near the space needle that changed names all the time and used to be a dance club. I think it was The Oz? it's behind Mcdonald's near the monorail....or was at least.
if it werent for the bosstones, the dropkicks would be jack shit!!! i won tix on wbcn wicked happy!!!! cant wait to go!!for all those who aint goin..... sucks to be you!!
word. they got back together this year to release a new album of b-sides and some other new shit as well. hopefully tour talk will be cropping up soon.
the singer sounds really quiet compared to the backups.. kida weird.. but he sounds good in other sounds.. like Rascal King! lov that song! but yea they are good live
i like all kinds of music: punk, metal, country, oldies, rockabilly etc. but nothing cheers me up more and gives me more energy than ska and you just gotta love MMB

no the BossToneS coined the name Ska-Core from the 1993 EP
Ska-Core the Devil and More
The Specials may be considered the fathers of what most would call 2-Tone.
If you listen to either band you should know the difference.
