The phrase that Leeland uses, "locked in a cage", is a metaphor for how Jesus felt at Gethsemene. It does not mean that He literally was in a cage. He felt the same pain and anguish anyone would feel at the prospect of crucifixion, but the amazing thing is that He dd the will of God anyway. Many times we may feel that God has allowed us to be put in a difficult situation, but we need to do as Jesus did and follow His will not our own.

im sure it did seem like he was locked in a cage hanging on the cross with no way of escape to the many on lookers, it then goes on to say through the cross he couquered the grave. I dont think at any piont they are saying He was locked in a cage, just that it would have seemed like it. just my thoughts though....

@ kencful. I think you have missed the point of the song. Its not Christ who is locked in the cage, but us or the listener singer etc. the cage that sin bounds us in. " you'v never felt in place...etc" never felt in place in the cage of sin if you like. i think its about the time you realise you need Christ and turn "the oposite way" from the 1st verse. as for the 2nd chorus, it says it seemed like he was locked in a cage...
