@cloudycolacorp They sell a Biathlon Basic that has the same action in a normal stock. It's about 300-400 instead of 1200. It's not cheap, but it's about the same for a good CZ or similar rifle. They're deadly accurate. I want one myself.
Thery're undeniably russian guns(unfinished barrels, sorta cheap looking all round) the accuracy is OK but not on par with the Anschutz Fortner actions. I like the toggle action though it's novel and gets lot's of questions. Really though not a whole lot of gun for $1200+. The "SOBOL" basic is again novel but for the $ you'd be better off with a CZ .22 they are tack drivers and cheap as dirt!\
P.S. I'm told, back in the day they used to shoot biathlon with high-power rifles!
I'm more of an archer than a gunpowder guy. I'd like to see archery used in the biathlon. And I don't mean compounds. Real English longbows, or traditional longbows.
That's a very quiet .22.....in Canada were not aloud to shoot with anything over 500fps (with out a fire arms licence) so .22's are not used in competition and we use air rifles instead :(
@2canmanwilber hey so your Canadian? me too. I live in Hamilton, Ontario...how/where can I get started with training for Biathalon ( i am 16) and how much money would i need?...i am use to shooting guns because I shoot skeet so i already have my PAL
Biathlon formerly used 30-06 rifles and shot at 200 meters. The sport began as a military competition. I'll bet before too long they force us to use air guns, as they have in the pentathlon.
Air guns are cheaper to maintain. Ammunition for airguns is cheaper too. Airguns can have enough power to shoot up to at least a 100 yards. This is pushing it, and would need a lot of fine tuning, but with a PCP with regulator it can be done.
And that kid wouldn't be able to shoot with a 30-06, would he?
Umm, more like "how can we help defend our country from the Germans?" Answered by "equip the rifleman with skies to better maneuver through the snow covered woods".
if u have as good a aim to shoot thru the eye as the ones who actually use this in competitions or if it miraculously breaks through the skull, it would ricochet inside the skull, making the brain into a smoothie
function over form is the name of the game here. same philosophy with the AK-47. it may be as ugly as a dog with lopsided bollocks, but damn if it doesn't kill a whole lot of motherfuckers around the world every year.
I like the action, seems very solid, granitic to say at least. I have a smallbore CZ and with it's standard bolt and handle seems like a toy, the handle "throttle style" of this rifle rocks !
I own one of the older versions of this rifle. They are fantastic pieces of equipment. Admittedly, the bolt action is not nearly as elegant as that of the anschutz rifles and they tend to be heavier, but they are significantly cheaper, the bolt comes apart SIGNIFICANTLY easier for cleaning (I really cannot stress that last point enough, cleaning an anschutz is like disassembling your watch) , and you can dry-fire them forever as the firing pin does not go all the way forward (risking breakage)
The second shooter isn't preloading the first stage travel at all. They're just jerking the trigger completely. You can see the tendons in his forearm as he jerks the trigger.
Yeah, i know, but if they don´t pull the trigger longer, it´s a bigger chance they miss the target. I live in Sweden and have been training biathlon 3-4 years now, and just started in junior class(17-19), and i have been trained by an old champion (Tord Wiksten) he was best in shooting of skiing and shooting and he says that you first gonna train to do as little moves as possible and then shoot a little faster. And if you have tested laser shooting you can see at a screen how much you move.
The 'red sock cap' with 'black/white cross' is national flag of Norway.
Please feel free to ski 30km in temperatures of 20C below zero and shoot out five targets in a row from standing, kneeling and prone, before you can say you can do better...
Better still, come over here and show us how to do it.
these are recruits, they have probably just learned how to shot, give a fat american kid a biathlon rifle and see how well he fares... however the girl at 2.00 is pretty good, she's 15 and know how to shoot, so back of or do it better yourself
Dollars.

A bolt action .22 target rifle?
Probably the least effective other than a rifle with no ammo.
