@XxTOxICiTYxX1227 If you really want "the best" combat force the US has to offer, take a look at the CIA Special Activities Division... almost all of them are former Force Recon, Rangers, D-Force, SEALs, et cetera, retrained to be able of performing what the CIA demands.

The Marine Corps is more "motivated" and is more combat-focused overall, while the Army overall is more focused on mission accomplishment. The Army has its motivated, hard corps combat units, while also having relaxed but professional service and support units. Your options of learning civilian-equivalent skills in the Army are greater than in the Marines, because a great part of the Army is non-combat and much more resources, time, and training is put towards it.

Marines are tough, fierce fighters that are used to having to suck it up and make it work. Unfortunately the Marine Corps is not well-funded, which means the Corps gets all of the old equipment that the Army doesn't want anymore, and new equipment is not as common as in the Army. I'm not a big fan of the Marine Corps mindset though, but I still respect the Corps. I like the Army, it's still full of tough individuals, but the Army has many facets to it and can fulfill many purposes.

How long is pre-deployment training? For Afghanistan?

Most infantry units train specifically for a middle east deployment for about 1 month or so. But they train from the time they return from deployment in all aspects of their job. You never stop training as a combat Marine. Many infantry units will go to CAX in 29 Palms to train while others may go to mountain warfare school in Bridgeport to train for Afghan as well.

I agree. Those Marine officers are a whole other breed of human beings, everyone wants to be one and almost no one has what it takes to do that kind of thing. I was at Quantico yesterday, it was a nice base, I wish we had bases like that!

I'm surprised none of these Marines ever corrected you on your inaccuracies, but then again they probably did you just didnt get it on camera....And one more thing, NO ONE becomes a Marine Officer just because the economy is bad;the training is entirely too hard to do it just for that, you have to want to lead Marines, people who go into training because the economy is bad, never make it through OCS, and end up out on their asses looking for a job in the civilian world.

Its cool that you did this report on Marine officer training, but the video has many inaccuracies, from calling these Marine officers recruits. You should have done more reserach on this before reporting on it. And this is only the beggining of a Marine officers training. After they graduate from this (its 6 months long), they go on to MOS school, than get assigned to their unit, and before they deploy to A'Stan, they train at the Mountain Warfare center in California to prepare for that.

This is Camp Barrett in Quantico Virginia. These young men and women ARE officers in the Marine Corps, not soon to be officers, they are 2ndLt's beginning their careers at TBS (The Basic School) where all Marine officers start their careers. If you want to see soon to be officers in the Marine Corps, go to OCS (Officer Candidate School) which is where men and women go to prove they have the neccessary skills to become Marine Officers. OCS is also on MCB Quantico.
