  • Mouth of sauron: :"I am a scrawny whelp with a freakishly deep voice and insecurities about my complexion. suffer for my misery. graaah"

  • So many mixed feelings about this movie. On the one hand, it has songs like this and It's So Easy Not to Try. On the other hand, it really abbreviates the story, has some weird voice-acting, and doesn't bother to explain much of what's needed.

Then there's Where There's a Whip. It's so much fun, but doesn't belong in a Lord of the Rings movie.

  • I don't care what anybody else says, I really like this movie. I think it actually captures the spirit of the books better than Jackson's version. :) Thanks for posting this!

  • This movie makes Aragorn out to be a complete douchebag

  • East is West Now? or does Gandalf have a hard time with maps, he just went on a fishing trip and ended up on middlearth because he thought he was going west back to Aman

  • @timenyart no, cirith ungol and cirith gorgol both lay to the west, but aragorn had to march north and THEN back west to meet that pass, gaurded by the towers.

  • @LordComma East dude , East, pay attention to the map, alright, Gandalf, in this movie got it completely wrong, Mordor is to the East along with Cirith Ungol and Gorgor, and the Sea, Gondor and Valinor all ly to the East

  • Does anyone know where I can find just the song? I love it so much.

  • "I am the Mouth of Papa Smurf!"

  • @DrRipper19 that sam defeated on his own......somehow.....

  • 0:22 "...Cirith Ungol, but that is narrow and dangerous to move an army through."

Oh, and it also has a GIANT SEVEN THOUSAND YEAR OLD FUCKING DEMIGOD SPIDER LIVING IN IT!

  • we SHALL seeeeee

  • 1:55 that guy holding the flag wants to die it seems.....

  • There must be an orc band and choir sitting right behind the wall in order to produce mood music and singing at exactly the right moments. An orc on the wall gives them cues.

Also, what strong voices, they can be heard almost as far away as Gondor in the march sequence.

  • @LordGodsServant Crossing the Ithilien river automatically trigger's Sauron's motion sensor, which plays a repeating loop of demotivational songs.

    (source, the Silmarillion)

  • @Tareltonlives lol, genius

  • These Orcs have won at Middleearth's Idol ;-)

  • There are really only a couple problems with this film, mostly centered around the weird narration Gandalf gives... I like the songs a lot, but the Orcs singing is kinda silly, and the weird thing about hobbits "becoming" more like humans makes no sense... IDK if they were trying to say hobbits and men become one species somehow... anyway... it's weird... I appreciate that this movie really uses a lot of Tolkien's dialogue, though. It is mostly very true to Tolkien's feel.

  • I like the armor of the Haradrim that accompany the Mouth of Sauron.

  • "I wondered.... Where is the ring?"

"Between the towers of the cheeks."

  • I love it when Thurl Ravenscroft sings in a chorus with himself.

  • Haha, I've seen this movie 20+ times, I can't believe I never noticed Gandalf saying "west"!

  • Can anyone else imagine an orcish orchestra playing all the music to this part, off screen? XD

  • @DCdabest The Mordor Philharmonic is the best symphonic orchestra in Middle Earth

  • I love how the orcs have the best songs

  • Win the battle, lose the war, Choice of evils lie before your feet, Retreat, Retreat, Retreat! If you win then you will lose, Choice of evils yours to choose, Retreat... Retreat, retreat, retreat! You are standing in the eye of the storm, Move an inch, and you'll be dead, You are standing underneath, the towers of the Teeth, and the Eye...blazes red!
  • Can you post the end of this movie with the End of the Ring, the Return of the King song ? I love that .

  • This movie had an awesome Aragorn. Why did he literally get almost no screentime?

  • @Cocarat206

Because the movie is based entirely on the third book, The Return of the King, and Aragorn didn't appear very much in that one. They could have added more Aragorn scenes, of course, but you can only fit so much into an 80-minute movie, and he wasn't the main character, so the new scenes went to the Hobbits.

  • We shall seeeee

  • @jjj10098 lmao, give that VA a grammy. :P

  • Half expected an elevator "ping" sound when the Black Gates opened!! :D

  • somebody needs to make an abridged version of this with all the funny voices and jokes that an abridged version entails!

  • go nourth and weast

  • Is there something wrong with me when I know that Cirith should be pronounced Kirith, not Sirith?

  • @nefaust No, there was something wrong with the poor research they did for this movie.

  • songs to match your spirit Gandalf?... in that case; AWESOME!!!???

  • Nazi Germany against Poland. That a fair fight? ? ?

  • WE SHALL SEE!... love that line i love this movie to almost as good as the regular ones

  • He is neither.

  • I thought Sauron was was a Balrog not a wraith?

  • Respond to this video... Stand forth and do battle! ! !

  • @beamerball666 Sort of. Sauron was one of the Maiar, the Balrogs were also a sub-group of Maiar but Sauron was not a Balrog. Aragorn was just stating The Mouth of Sauron was better suited than the Nazgul for speaking on Sauron's behalf rather than just attacking them right away.

  • @suchiuomizu This explanation makes more sense thanks

  • "You are standing in the eye of the storm!

    Move an inch,

    And you'll be dead.

    You are standing underneath

    The towers of the teeth

    And the eye

    Blazes red!"

They just don't write them like they used to, do they?

  • @BlueDemonofFire Do you WANT to be there? ? ? DOES ANY SANE MAN ? ? ? ONLY A BERZERKER ! ! !

    I can be A BERZERKER! ! And I am a INTELLECTUAL! ! !

  • @BlueDemonofFire Oh yes they do.

  • This movie' all right. My main issue with it is that it doesn't give enough time to properly develop its characters. Aragorn's the title character and he has approximately 9 lines.

  • @stitch99; Or at least, all its characters other than Sam Gamgee.

  • @PadraikKasier

    Hey, you're right!

  • so the orcs may not be the best looking creatures, but at least they still have a musical streak!!

  • oooohhhh dear, this film *cringe* bashki's version was great tho

  • me: *watching this vid* hey, Aragorn? can you help me find this version of ROTK in full somewhere? i know i have the video somewhere around here...

Aragorn: *as seen in 3:32* WE SHALL SEE

    me: -_-"

  • The orcs are simply going to crush them with their superior singing skillz

  • the black gate should have a revolving door

    revolving doors are true evil

  • Aragorn:

"Dammit! They command the power of song against us!! What foul, black sorcery is this!!"

  • I didn't know the wringwraiths were Banshees!!!

    lol

  • Not so much directed at you as inspired by you, 67nairb.

Also, you focus on "Gorugoroth" while ignoring "See-rith Ungol"? I can't decide whether that shows misplaced priorities, or a spirit that I should commend for not being pedantic and fanboyish enough to point out that it's pronounced "Kee-rith Oongol."

  • Also, they pronounce it Gorugoruth plateau. IT'S GORGOROTH, NOT GORUGORUTH!!!

  • I can point out an error in Gandalf's directions. He says go north and then west, but that would take them to Rohan. The right direction would've been east. I always joke that he drank a bit too much ale after the battle. :)

  • @67nairb

OH GOD IT ALL MAKES SENSE NOW.

(Seriously, though, that's pretty cool, even if it does make me imagine a scene in which the Towers of the Teeth have a hallway full of doors, and Aragorn and company lead the forces of darkness on a merry chase to the tune of "Yakety Sax"... which has naturally been mashed up with "Where There's a Whip.")

  • @NephandiMan Was this comment addressed to me.

  • You know, I like a lot of things about this version of The Return of the King - some ironically, some not - but seriously, this version of the mouth of Sauron looks like he should be saying "And the Dark Lord would have gotten away with it if it weren't for you meddling kids!"

  • @NephandiMan The Mouth of Sauron's voice is supplyed by Hanna-Barbera's main voice man Don Messick.

  • @NephandiMan LOL! You have a good sense of humor.

  • The map of Middle Earth for which Gandalf and Aragorn were studying was so accurate from the maps in Tolkien's books.

  • 0:08-0:16 it's the Gorgoroth Plateau not Gorogoroth.

  • @67nairb Alternate pronunciation.

  • 0:02-0:08-the man flanking Aragorn on the right is Eomer. Gimli & Legolas could've made an appearance in this ROTK tv special as extras and not say anything.

  • I think Sauron directed this part to make his servants sing in this way!!

  • @OmarioMufc Of course who else could it be his regular conductor got killed at the Battle of Minas Tirith Sauron himself had to step sorry if I mispelled anything it's almost 3 in the morning&i'm tired

  • @beamerball666 LOOOOOOL

  • In the book the Mouth sais "It takes more to make a king than a piece of Elvish glass" they almost got it right. What he said here still makes sense.

  • @LordGodsServant Indeed. And this Mouth fits the book's description WAY better than the live action one. He's a human sellout, not a Lovecraft reject portrayed by CGI that looks less convincing than the movie version of the Ninja Megafalconzord.

  • @ZeldaTheSwordsman I thought that the Peter Jackson version was a bit overplayed but still fit the theme. But oh well, to each his own. Thanks for the reply :)

  • Sauron personally hired the Haradrim's best Band and Choir directors to direct bands to make mood music. They're sitting behind the gates in this case some soldiers on the top are giving them cues on when to stop and start playing.

(seriously, the Orcs have the best singing voices in these movies, they must have formed several big brass bands :D )

  • 5 people came to waste words in treating with the likes of he, one of Sauron's slaves.

  • 2:32

    oh it worked..

  • very encouraging song. ;(

    you show him aragorn!!!!

  • very encouraging song. ;(

  • 4:26 Sauron is an evil coin.) Yeah i knew that.

  • Retreat!

  • silents

  • Wraths on flying horses instead of Dragons? Pushovers.

  • @necropathos Not dragons, ever, they're just called "Fell Beasts"

  • listen to Aragorn say "We shall see" at 3:32, OMG, I couldn't stop laughing, that is youtube poop material on the level of: "...NO", and "what the F...auuaahhh!!!", and "Its over 9 THOUSAND!!!"

  • @Spartan038lverr Yes, that and the Mouth of Sauron's scream at 3:55. PURE GOLD

  • I loved this movie, I grew up with it.

And now this song will be stuck in my mind. But a lot of the songs in this movie are pretty catchy.

  • Now thissss I want on my iPod, minus the spoken-word.

  • So much more like the Aragorn of the books than in the live-action film, in this regard, at least---Aragorn wouldn't randomly lose his temper and behead an unarmed emissary.

  • @brownqs The only problem here is that, in the beginning, it seems to be more that Aragorn's arrogant, and actually believes he has a chance to fight through the forces arrayed at the Black Gate. Peter Jackson did get the part that the battle was a diversion right; Handling of the Mouth part? No, but it still decrees a badass move. What better way to make someone want to attack you than to cut down one of your lieutenants? Anyways, both versions were awesome to me.

  • @LSKennedy78 He didn't come across as arrogant, but brave. To stand up in the face of evil, even when outnumbered shows great spirit and courage.

  • @dujl Indeed. The only reason I said he was arrogant was that he didn't seem to be as respectful of Gandalf, just calling him 'wizard' when they were good friends in the book, and he makes no mention about helping Frodo like in the book. The book does the scene much better, in that Aragorn know's he's likely leading these men to their deaths but is willing to do it to save all of Middle Earth. This scene just doesn't seem to catch that part to me. Anyways, You broughtup a great point. Thanks.

  • @LSKennedy78 The book definitely does it better, but to me it merely sounded like Aragon was being a bit light-hearted, and jokingly spurring his friend to show hope in light of what was to come. That's my take on it, anyway. :)

  • @brownqs Yes it sure does, why making Aragorn an arrogant prick is the right way to go! Seriously this isn't Aragorn, in the book, Aragorn was more respectful to Gandalf since they were friends and this scene makes it look like Aragorn cares nothing for his men nor mentions it would be a diversion to draw Sauron's attention, allowing Frodo and Sam to make their way to Mt. Doom. Also horrible voice acting at 3:31 It sounds like a robot is saying that line.

  • @azn3000 He wasn't being disrespectful here. I think they were going for "Gallows Humor."

  • @SpartanVid Not really

  • Bentheman11 is correct - the whole purpose of this military campaign is to divert Sauron's attention so Frodo and Sam can get to Mount Doom. If it really came down to a pitched battle, the forces of Mordor would obliterate Aragorn and company; their intention was to camp and wait out a battle in the hopes Frodo could destroy the ring before Sauron sent his army to crush them.

  • @wayne62682

    thank you wayne62682

  • u know the gondorians dont look equipped for a seige

    gonna be pretty one sided

  • @BENTHEMAN11 I don't know why the film fails to mention this, but the whole purpose of marching on the gate is to buy time for Frodo, not to achieve any sort of military victory. They certainly were not equipped for anything but a suicide mission.

  • @ZillaRocks

    i know that!

but come on even when buying time u gotta be prepared!

  • Comment removed

  • @BENTHEMAN11 Problem is, they didn't have time to prepare

  • @ZillaRocks

    true but still

  • Also is it just me or is the Mouth of Sauron's flag bearer wearing glasses? Take a good look at 3:57, he looks like he has big glasses on

  • The Mouth: I am the Mouth of Sauron!

Aragorn: His emissary, you mean, for you be no wraith but made from flesh and blood beneath that mask and those robes.

    (etc. etc.)

Aragorn: Begone! We did not come here to waste words entreating with the likes of you; one of Sauron's slaves!

    The Mouth: Grr...

    Gandalf: PWND!

  • Gandalf: oooooooohhhhh, East! I thought you said "Weast!"

Aragorn: Weast? What kind of map are you looking at?

    Gandalf: this one.

    Aragorn: that's WEST, Gandalf. -.-;;

  • @ShadowLivesonForever You're FIRED again.

  • @ShadowLivesonForever Yeah. Attack GONDOR? ? ? NEVER! ! Attack Denethor? YEAH! ! !

  • Aragorns sword sounds like a whip?

  • those are the ringwraiths? is this lord of the rings or Fantasia? i don't care which but make up your mind.

  • @Andrewlevin i know, lame. they were clearly described differently in the books lol

  • Smooth runners beneath those tremendous doors.

  • 4 people are servants of the Dark Lord.

  • I choose to MAACH!

  • Gorogoruth plateau? You mean gorgoroth? I mean it's even written out at 0:14, come on Gandalf. lol

  • wait a minute.aragorn says'' the king of gondor demand the black lord to come forth'' aragorn is not king yet.he won't be crowned till the end of the movie.

  • @katyaandnikkil A technicality. Even in the books they referred to him as "King" before he was officially crowned.

  • Is it me, or does Aragorn's voice at 2:30 actually sound a lot like the Aragorn from Peter Jackson's film trilogy :O?

  • @KamikoAmaterasu You know, that was my first thought when I saw that seen in the live action movie.

  • @KamikoAmaterasu A little your right

  • We shall see.

  • As poorly done as these films were, I still love them for introducing me to Tolkien's fantastic world. At the time I was maybe 10, and reading LOTR was a monumental task that i didn't accomplish until I was 14. I owe a lot to these films.

  • @Hektor88 "Poorly done" ?!?! GTFO!

  • This clip deviates from the book in that it shows Aragorn deciding to invade Mordor instead of merely engaging them to buy time for Frodo.

  • The Black Gate is opened: "Clap on! Clap off!"

  • Ugh, the pronunciations are terrible. Especially the name of the Enemy, it's pronounced Sour-on not Sore-on.

  • @Martintheauthor I know!! thank god I'm not the only one!

  • Comment removed

  • @DranGore3 Spelling doesn't have anything to do with it. If you're going to read from Tolkien should at least know how to pronounce the word properly. Peter Jackson's film trilogy had Tolkien scholars working on it to make sure of that.

  • True fact: the people who made this movie mispronounced everything: "Goru-Goruth plateau", "Sirith Ungol", and my personal favorite, the Dark Lord "Sore-on". Look it up on Wikipedia. It even shows you how to pronounce everything. Peter Jackson did an infinitely better job on that note, if you want proof.

  • Aragorn Jesus!

  • is it just me or does the mouth of sauron look like a tall version of pippin on drugs? its sad to say it, I'm a fan of the movies and the books, but the mouth of sauron looks like a druggie.

  • iv been sinign this song for two days now DAMN IT!

  • @Russellt0228 Two days? Heh. It's been running through my head at odd moments for two decades. Along with the theme from Hogan's Heroes. And.....well, you get the picture.

  • Aragorn in this movie actually sounds a lot like Viggo... it's scary lol

  • So what, the Black Gate has automatic doors?

  • @NightMarkVII

Or, you know, magic. I hear Soron may have a bit in his back pocket...

  • Comment removed

  • @NightMarkVII

    *ding!*

    "Thank you come again!!"

  • @NightMarkVII Good joke. The gates of Narchost and Charchost, the Towers of the Teeth, are opened and closed by Trolls.

  • This version's Gandalf is a wuss. They knew they couldn't beat Sauron, the whole point was it was a diversion.

  • The masked man's voice sounds familiar to me.

  • I CHOOSE TO MARCH!

  • One of the things I noticed last time I watched this was that, despite being the title character, Aragorn has approximately 9 lines in the whole movie.

  • Then... if the choice be mine... I choose to MARCH!

  • Whenever my brother says something and I have a different opinion I say that...

    "We shall see!"

  • @LordOfTheGnomes1

whenever I'm presented with a particularly promising or troubling situation i spontaneously break out into song that's appropriate to the mood, with a surprisingly charming baritone despite my homely appearance and absolutely no rehearsing whatsoever. because rehearsing would just be silly.

  • @LordOfTheGnomes1 thats awesome LOL

  • I love these animations! My aunt gave me the video tape for my 7th birthday. They are definetly from the films!

  • I loved this.

  • It's funny how so many trash these cartoons for the songs when the songs are actually in the book (most of them anyway).

I think these cartoons are pretty cool. The art is awesome and in it's condensed form, still tells the story well.

  • @psyjax yea... except "win the battle lose the war" was NO WHERE in Return of the King, or anywhere else for that matter.

  • dude, the writers didn't know east from west.

  • We shall see

  • I love that line.

  • we shall see

  • FUUUUCK im nostalgiaing SO HARD

  • HEY!!!!! some people want to watch this without your words popping up in the comments. Most people enjoy listening to the funny songs and watching Gandalf point around on a map giving directions that he contradicts with his hilariously long finger.

  • wat

  • Oh wait, it's Aragorn's finger. Sorry.

  • the black gate is quite small...

  • lol that's what I was thinking

  • Orcs, though ugly, have surprisingly good singing voices.

  • I have seen this movies dozens of times and for the first time I realized that Gimli was never depicted. Aragorn, Gandalf, The hobbits and Legolas were all depicted (Legolas never mentioned but clearly there) but poor Gimli was not in the movie.

  • @thesagebrushkid That's actually Eomer. Both Legolas and Gimli were left out XD

  • The Mouth of Sauron (at 3:53): WHAAAZAAP!

  • aragorn chooses to maach

  • In this version the king is at least a king, and not Gandalf...

  • very well done, the music; the story most of all.

  • i love their singing voice! this scene gives me the shivers... lol, i think it's awesome! :D

  • Comment removed

  • See I LOVE Jackson's movies, but I will admit I can see why he cut out the Mouth of Sauron and Witch-King vs Gandalf versions (still available in the extended versions though). The voice of the Witch-King didn't work for me in this, but I give them a pat on the back for following their own design kinda like the book and the Mouth of Sauron still creeped me out here (his eyes reminded me of Palpatine's). The men and orcs have great singing voices too. Massively underated classics these movies.
