  • Don't get me wrong at all. I love Williams' work. I don't have an ipod but if I ever get one it would be full of his music. It's weird that I was ripping on him at all, honestly. Haha I guess my thought was I'm looking at two musicians I like and ripping on John Williams because his is... simpler I guess.

  • John Williams has proven himself to be an incredible composer. You haters just loath the fact that he is popular with the masses as well as with the musical elite. By the way, I love this piece.

  • @TheDavid2222 I agree. Williams has a set of skills that work perfectly in conjunction with the films he has scored, not to mention some of his actual concerti which have impressed me. It is like people hating on Radiohead or the Beatles for being popular, without acknowledging the fact that there is a significant amount of musicianship and craft that goes into their music. Artists cannot control the hype surrounding them. I'm sure most of them resent it. Too bad it creates "haters".

  • I always thought John Williams was mainly a Prokofiev ripoff artist. ;)

In any case, sad that this work, far superior than anything Williams produced, is so neglected.

  • @moosatious lol? I don't know who you hang around with but almost everyone I know has heard of and admires Barber's Piano Concerto. It is not as underground as you would like to believe. It is very popular with piano enthusiasts. Obviously, Williams is going to be more well known among people uneducated in contemporary classical music due to his involvement with many popular films, but I don't think that should detract from his ability any less.

  • @Hamgammy For starters, I'm a bit old for the "hanging around" thing you mention. Secondly, I never used the word "underground" in my post. I did say, however, that the Barber Piano Concerto was "sadly neglected," and I stand by that But I don't make that assertion on the basis of what members of, let us say, the Carl Czerny Admiration Society, would say. I base this rather on concert programs of my own little home town orchestra (known to locals as the CSO) and broadcast concerts .

  • It really makes you realize that john Williams' music is the classical equivalent to a bunch of power cords.

  • @kakky231 lol? Williams primarily composes with films. His music has to be less subtle than this and convey emotion in concordance with the images on screen in order to be comprehensive; I think you are being a tad bit unfair in this comparison.

  • mindblowing...
