Research shows that most folks who DO enjoy their career do so for it's intrinsic value to them rather than for the income. Certainly we all desire income sufficient to support our dreams, our aspirations, our values. Some people have predatory values but most don't. Our incentive comes from what we value. Inflated pharmaceutical prices are a result of socialism, not capitalism. The existence of gov't sponsered health care and public/private health insurance has inflated the price of healthcare to obscene amounts. Pharm companies don't have to worry about a price competitive market when all of their products are paid for by insurance and health care. Socialism is just a bad idea.
If people want to be communists, they should be communists. Where these communists (be they "real" communists or "fake" communists) go wrong is dragging everybody else along into it. Oddly the NHS works reasonably well over here and is in effect free to the UK people. I will not say it is perfect, far from it, but at least if anyone is sick or ill, then they can get treatment!

What has happened is a ruling core (upper tiers of the Bolshevik party e.g. Lenin, Stalin etc) set up a dictatorship, hoarded funds for themselves, failed horribly at dispersing wealth to the people while spending copiously on the military, causing millions to die of starvation. Millions died of violent acts under Stalin because he was psychopathic, not the workers rule as communism entails, but a perversion.

Inflated pharmaceutical prices are a result of socialism, not capitalism. The existence of gov't sponsered health care and public/private health insurance has inflated the price of healthcare to obscene amounts. Pharm companies don't have to worry about a price competitive market when all of their products are paid for by insurance and health care. Socialism is just a bad idea.

The confusion of terms common to our political debate is ugly. The USSR wasn't, in its final stages, anything remotely like socialism, which necessitates cooperative control. It was a largely state capitalist system that functioned via authoritarian plutocratic bureaucracy. But then, so is America, increasingly. Over-centralization of economic power in the hands of the few is the same problem repeated, and an ill reasoned take down of the dissatisfied by poorly informed isn't helpful.
