In the 1960s Hogan's Heroes (unfairly) drew fire for satirising concentration camps although it was set in a POW camp and never mentioned the Holocaust.

Now we have Chicken Run which also satirises POW camps - and this time there is a hint of the death camp with chickens being marked for slaughter - but nobody criticises it as they did Hogan's Heroes. Times have changed all right!

We get to watch this in English at school and I just wanted to check out the trailer because I remember thinking it was creepy, like Wallace and Grommit. It is creepy! Their eyes are so SCARY! The movie was released in 2000 just as DVD was starting to take off, and so it was simultaneously released on video and DVD. I just saw the film again on TV and the pie machine sequence made me lol with the Star Wars references.

Hogan's Heroes was controversial because people confused its POW camp comedy with concentration camps. Unlike Hogan's Heroes, Chicken Run alludes to concentration camps and the Holocaust with chickens being used as slave labour and going for the chop. But it doesn't seem to have the controversy of Hogan's Heroes, which it might have if it had appeared at the same time. Shows how perspectives have changed.
