  • Ryan doesnt use the 5 string on this song

  • Hey dude, stumbled on this vid. I likes it! If thats a T-5 your playing, could you post your string heights? I've been trying super hard to get that kind of response out of mine

  • Good job man. You have a simple style and no real frills or anything too flashy, but you nailed it, and the audio sounds excellent. Keep 'em coming.

  • Thanks everybody for the kind words, this is my old Youtube account and I'm unfortunately locked out of it. :(

  • i think its easer to play this song with a 4 string insted of a 5 string

  • death blooms is probobly my favorite mudvayne song to play, and yes 7sloth's covers are usuly incedibly acurate and ancy but this guy did a pretty god job too so kudos to both of them.

  • You did fine, but you wouldn't achieve Ryan's sound or 7sloth's even if you had warwick.

Heavy picking is a must for Mudvayne sound :-)

  • sick man, nice job

  • O Baxista do mudvayne viaja de mais ahsuhasuha bom trabalho cover

  • nice!!!!!!

  • nice job with the slapin and the pull

  • how long did it take you to learn this song?, is it hard?, cuz im thinking of picking up bass, and i wanna learn this song eventually

  • @MaggoTForLif3 this song would be almost impossible to a beginner. since apparently you want to play metal and assuming you haven't bought a bass yet, just start off with at least 5 strings. that's what i did, and it's been very motivational for me to start with 5 strings. easier metal bands to jam along to are korn, sevendust, dark new day,and rammstein. when those start getting boring to play, start playing harder stuff like mudvayne, tool, switched, disturbed, and flaw.

  • @SkooterBush Thanks a ton mate, i figured it would be near impossible for me, haha, thanks for all the advice!

  • Great Job! Nice bass tone bro!

  • Its a solid cover, you were pretty accurate with your timing. Nice job!

  • yo u got a mean soundin growl i wish i cud get that efect ou of my amp

  • I want this bass :( a Schecter stiletto studio 5, right? I'm playing an Ibanez GSR200 right now which is really good but I want a five string at the moment :P, awesome cover btw.

  • awesome cover man

  • it took me ten minutes to learn this song on the bass, when i first hear this song i wanted to learn it right away

  • i have that same bass, but mine is fretless with fret lines FTW. i dont play it anymore..

  • You should sell it to me.

  • 2 or 3 fingers?

  • to me thats the best bass in the world especialy the der-der-der! bit :D (nt very good description but i have no idea wat its called im a drummer) im sure you no wat bit i mean lol

  • Pretty good dude!!

  • This is a really good cover. Lacks in the energy Martinie puts in, but the precision and accuracy is top notch.

  • pretty good, remember its a COVER

  • i like your bass

  • goat dude is right keep practicing and 7sloth is good but there is better

  • oh yeah 7sloth is great

  • I have my own technique because I have had plenty of obstacles with my left hand that I've had to overcome, including some internal nerve damage in my left hand that keeps me from 'properly' playing, and keeps me from being able to use my pinky without excruciating pain. Thanks anyways though.

  • @silentscream51 very nice technique, it takes a good player to use proper technique, it takes a GREAT player to develope his own and still play a song flawless.

  • ..perfect!

  • Comment removed

  • u suck compared to 7sloth ...

  • no he didnt suck! 7sloth's cover is just more neat and maybe more accurate but this dude nailed it too. wish you could play like that lol..

  • @LPDXDX wtf.... i can play that waaay more accurate and better ;) so don't talk trash :)

  • lol then show me it!!! post it right now!

and it's not trash, this is Nu x)

  • wow... biggest idiot ive ever seen... btw my cam is broken :P

  • wow, even after looking at yourself? hmmm ok then moron if u won't post a better cover shut the fuck up.

  • @nikola799283 haha i jst saw 7sloth's vids and they brutal

  • nice tone sounds just alot like ryan's

  • LOL you have THE WORST left-hand finger lift I have ever seen (WAY too high)!

  • your a good bassist yes, but you still did it wrong, but i give you props for your skills

  • SICK cover dude.

  • Haha I was just about to comment about the lack of harmonics... Good thing I read the more info =P

I did notice a lack of a lot of the dead notes towards the beginning to middle of the song (they're there more or less for a little extra percussion so no big deal, just like seeing them there =P)

I personally think your left hand technique is fine. I think nycbassist76 was referring to how far they come off the fretboard (raising them less WOULD allow you to play quicker I guess) Nice work tho!

  • hey man great cover...and please take this as constructive criticism it's not meant to be an insult...but you really need to work on your left hand it's all over the place...trust me you work on that you will be 10xs faster

  • you need to turn your bass up a little more, other than sounded good

  • Tabs please!

  • this souns so tight

  • Thanks!

  • as the strings are tuned?

  • I kept the bass tuned to BEADG (which is the standard for 5 strings)

  • @silentscream51 wait this song is in 5 string standard I thought it was in drop B thats awesome I now have to learn this song

  • do you use tabs or ear? sounds pretty nice.

  • I learned this one by ear.

  • good job man, and i was thinkn about getn a warwick 5 string, think i should?

  • Thanks! If you can afford it go ahead, the mistake I made was buying this bass for $700 without even having a decent amp. So in a couple years after I can afford a half stack, I'll need to get one of those. :)

  • That is what I was about to say, you need a better amp...

  • i love your tone!

  • yea i agree with vandalismdam. other than that pretty solid (Y)

  • Nice Cover dude But to the next time Turn up the volume of your amp

  • Alright man, I'll def. do that next time.

  • DUDE! MAKE MORE!

  • Haha, alright, the minute I can get a fresh pack of strings (I've got Ernie Ball strings right now and they suck) I'll look into covering some new songs, one that I'm really leaning towards is Prequel To The Sequel by Between The Buried and Me.

  • i learned that the other day, its really not as hard as it looks

well...i didn't find it that hard

  • how did you get so much growl on your bass?!

  • The tone is all directly from the bass itself, it's my mini Warwick. With some DR strings on the bass it just flat out growls. Elixir's are great too.

The tone isn't run into an amp on this video or anything, it's run directly into my computers mic input, no compression, just a little chorus, but nothing else.

  • DR high beams?

  • Yeah, the hi-beams, but I'm buying Lo-Rider strings next time I can cause of the lower tuning I've been using lately.

I actually believe the strings I had on my bass in this video are the Marcus Miller Fat Beams, but I'm not 100% sure.

  • turn your amp up!!! other than that great cover man.

what amp/program you using? got a pretty good tone considering the pickups used

  • can you send me a tab for the slapping part

  • nice

  • amazing. that makes it look so easy.

  • futangina mo ang galing!!!!!!!

  • wow thats the best cover i have seen Keept it up man Two thumbs up

  • You've obviously never heard of someone tabbing out things themselves, have you?

Just because I didn't play it in the same tuning as he does/on the same frets doesn't mean I'm playing it wrong.

Sorry, but the one thing I'm certain of is the tabs being correct, but thanks for your input nonetheless.

  • I don't play hysteria the same way as Muse does either. he is playing it right for the notes are the same, the tabs don't have to be. there is more than one place on any instrument to play the same note, especially on a bass.

If its the same notes and sounds right, then its right, Tabs mean nothing.

  • Dude it was 5/5 for me, the hard is because u never find tabs for 5 string bass (BEADG), is easy only find for 4 string but u need to change the tuning, and its a shit for new players, i only found 1 tab for this music in BEADG, and its live version but i need to know the order, if u could tell me or show where u found this tab u playing, it will be easy :)

  • I actually learned it by ear, and transcribed some of the other parts from the BF#BE tab.

  • actually the tunning ryan uses is F#BF#BE

    for five stringed

and it is not complicated if you know why people play in drop whatever.....

if you know the guitar then u will understand why many metal bands play in drop .....

my filosofi is that it all started when someone wanted to play power cords realy fast but he couldnt cause he needed two fingers (on standered tunning) but then he thought well.."if i tunned my top E string to a D i could play power cords with one finger"

  • SORRY ran out of characters

so i was saying then later on drop Db C B etc...

    occured

and now that i hope you know why they do that- this should have solved your problem

hope im right on all that i just said

  • Yeah you are totally right, ammm, if someone is going to talk shit about someone else videos maybe is because he has something better to show, in this case it can be a Mudvayne bass cover or something but this bastard don´t even have any videos uploaded on his page, Critics are good but in this case he has nothing to prove... silentscream51 did a powerfull job in this song :)

  • hahaha AMEN dude!! XD

  • haha i heard that ryan has double jointed fingers so he actually pops by sliding his fingers under the strings and popping them with the backs of his fingers. I also heard that he uses the three finger picking method. Exactly what is the three finger picking method?

  • in other words he uses 3 fingers to pick it exactly what it means

  • Some cases you can see him using 3 fingers and his thumb.

  • 3 fingers and thumb = flaminco style right?

  • I heard he has laser vision and he has killed 3 men and an elephant with his bare fist

  • Lol Ryan played a 5 string thumb on LD 50 recording, same bass he toured with the first year or so of the release..

  • Yeah but how is it tuned?

I always learned these songs in Drop-B...Now I must re-think...

That's only cause I saw him play a Vampire 4-string...Mudvanye hardly came on the TV back then.

  • oo yeah sikk ass bass cover urr my idol

  • oh yeah umm ryan plays a 5 string warwick so urr description is wrong...if u dont believe me check out wikipedia or look at the live video's..its a 5 string....not trying to be a bitch but ye

  • On the entire LD50 album he played on his Thumb 4, and then overdubbed most of the parts with his fretless Pedulla Buzz 4.

Also, not everything you read on wikipedia is true.

  • That's not true! Everything on Wikipedia is true! It said so on Wikipedia! lol. I'm kidding.

By the way, you did WONDERFULLY on this song! Who puts out the bass that you use?

I also loved the part around 1:58 when you hit the top string. Very beautiful sound, man. This is the first bass cover that I've that's done that. Way to go, man. =)

  • Schecter Stiletto Studio-5, it's a beautiful bass. It's a shame it doesn't get played as much as it should anymore.

    Thanks for the kind words!

  • agreed thats a sexy bass which for $1700 less than a thumb does a kick ass job for ryan's style going to go get one here soon

  • this is awesome dude, very good accuracy, great cover, dont sweat the haters lol they prolly suck ass

  • Thanks!

  • yeah good cover, hard to play on standart 5 string

  • You left out the natural harmonics int the beginning of the song.

  • Read the description.

  • Because I learned the song by ear on a BEADG tuned bass. He tunes to BF#BE, and the harmonics he plays are on the 5th fret of E then B then F#. I can't get those same harmonics when I'm not in the same tuning.

And also, on the seventh fret comment, I think you are mistaken.

  • I'm about to drop a ton of money on an SVT-4 PRO. Still considering what I'm going to get for my next bass.

  • Heh, I was saving up for one, but I don't play out much. I've got all the plug-ins I need.

    Plus lately it's been Techno/D'n'b.

  • very good job,

im too impatient to learn covers lol

  • Thanks, yeah I learned this one by ear, wasn't too bad though.

  • The cover is pretty cool!, Your slap technic is fine, I can't do it better...but I think you must work on the left hand, you can get injured playing like this.

  • I stopped playing bass for the most part, it's all usually techno / electronic music for me now.

    =/

  • Last year I change into guitar, but now I coming back again and It's beautiful, I know that this is mi instrument. Good luck with music, hope you find what you really like to do.

  • Thanks for the kind words :)

I'll find it some day, but primarily I believe it is a solo type of thing.

I have the sound in my head, but no one I know can replicate it.

Too bad I only play bass drums and guitar (not too well), I'll have to work on the vocals :P

  • good cover

  • Thanks!

  • never said you had to prove shit to me lol, i was making an observation, from one bass player to another. make a vid of you playing flow my tears the policeman said. by stu hamm.

  • ehh this is a decent cover, but its probably the simplest mudvayne song ever, he stays in the same scales the entire song. mainly the same notes

  • And what's your point?

I can play plenty of other Mudvayne or Primus songs, but I don't really feel like I have to prove shit to you.

  • tabs please im just starting to learn mudvayne bass tabs

  • Thats was Great, nice job, try Dig next, lol

  • I want to do Internal Primates Forever next since no one has a clean video of it yet, but I haven't practicing much :(

  • Oh yeah, and thanks for the kind words!

  • that was sick!!

  • Thanks!

  • um in ur info u have that its mean to be played in a 4 string tuned drop b its meant to be playe GCGCF

  • Actually, no. This song was played in studio B F# B E.

  • dude that was sick!!! wow your playing it like easy... wish i could play like you... btw can u play forget to remember... i heard that it has a lot of tapping... btw xXShmotzXx has a video that will show his way of tapping maybe u can have a hint... watch his videos too he plays sick like you dude... keep rocking and keep up the good work... 5/5 for you dude... yeaaaaaaaaaaahhhh!!!!

  • Dude is that a Schecter Stiletto Studio-5 Bass? im looking to get a 6 string of the same thing. your playing is fucking sweet on that thing!!!! now do "cradle" thats from ld 50 too its a crazy song man.

  • Yep, it's the Stiletto Studio 5, I was going to get the 6 string, but the string spacing would be too tight for me.

My next bass will probably be a 5 string Fender Jazz P-Bass, or a schecter 6 stringer.

I haven't been playing much bass, but I would like to do Internal Primates Forever next.

  • You should try Severed and Pharmaecopia, those were my favorite 2 mudvayne songs to play off this album.

Pharmaecopia because of the time changes and the syncopation and -1 because of the tapping bridge.

Post up, I'll post a few vids of myself, I cheat tho. I have a pro-tools HD setup, but have a really shitty video cam. I'll probably have to use the isight on my MBP and synch the vid and the recording up.

  • I had to blend my audio signal with the video, and song.

  • i believe its the same string spacing just a wider neck for that 6 string studio

  • I have no clue about the string spacing difference between the 5 and 6 string Stiletto Studio.

  • Thanks!

  • There's a few synchopated parts that you need to get the timing down on, other than that great job.

  • I'm pretty sure it's spelled syncopated, but which part were you talking about.

  • There's little parts all over the song, if you'd really like I could point them all out.

Mainly where a fast part starts and stops is where I see most of it, and yes you're correct on the spelling. It's been a while since music theory. :)

  • I guess, but I think I hit pretty much all the time signature changes pretty good. Don't know about you but I've also some musical theory classes. About 4 years worth.

    Cheers.

  • Ohhhh the irony. Here is a dude tearing it up and YOU want to be a critic. BUt here is the funny HA HA. And that is that you have ZERO bass clips of you playing a damn thing. ohhh Mr. "teacher". Tell ya what. I am monitoring. Let me "see" what you have goin' on. I am willing to crown you as king. Let's see what ya got bro. I am listening!!!!!!

  • I never recall saying that I was better, I was merely pointing out some of the mistakes I saw/heard. I've been a huge mudvane fan since before LD50 even came out and I learned to play this song when LD50 finally dropped.

Sorry to have offended you and your bad grammar skills.

I guess I must've not mentioned that I minored in college in audio engineering and picking stuff out like this is what I do.

I love the song, and the rendition is among the best I've seen but it's not perfect.

  • There is a difference between bad grammar and typing something up late and night while you are drinking. So how much does it pay to listen to other people's amateur renditions of songs on youtube, even the great one's as seen here? I Would love to fill out an application on that one. I could be soo rich with all the Youtube I watch. Please! Sign me up! Oh yea. Truce?

  • ok... you have a degree... that doesnt make it your job to tell people wut they do wrong. if a man has a degree in science... when he sees a kid blowing a bubble... does he preach to the kid on how he could do it better and bigger? STFU you prick. i say this one is among the best. who cares if he didnt do it exactly like Ryknow... no one can. but he puts his soul into his music. thats all that matters. 5/5

  • Thanks, ikejones1! :D

  • very well said.

  • Thanks

  • can u put down the music volume ? i can barely hear ur bass.

  • If I could I would. I'll see what I can do about re-recording the bass though.

  • definitely one of the best covers of death blooms i have heard yet. keep up the good work :)

  • Thanks :D

  • good work the best ive seen anyone do

    keep it up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thanks.

  • But to answer MCLOVIN50's question, I'll definitely see what I can do with Dig.

  • great job man! very accurate.

i just love the tone that your schecter produces, yours is the studio 5, and im getting a stiletto custom 5 sometime soon, and i can't wait to get it because it will probably sound very similar to yours. what amp are you using?

i also have a request if your up to, could you do dig? you have a GREAT tone for that song!

  • Thanks.

Odd I've got so many compliments on the tone, I'm running straight into a mixer that runs into my computer.

But when I practice I use this pretty nice program called AmpegSVX which is basically a virtual amp, I can go through 5-6 of Ampegs heads, then run it through 6-8 different speaker combinations, and then change the mics, and EQ. (But none of that had anything to do with this video.)

But yes, you should probably get a identical sound, I think it's from those EMG-HZs.

  • this ampeg program you talked about, is it a program i can simply download from the net? it would be nice to have a virtual amp, i could probably dial in a tone that would actually sound good for my bass...

in this video, you used your mixer to record?

  • You have to buy it.

  • yeah, I'm definitely buying it next month.

  • Thanks!

  • hi there luv the tone of ya bass wat tuning you play

  • BEADG (Standard 5-string tuning)

    Thanks.

  • great job man ! really great tone super job on the slapping part and even more credit for playing it by ear ! 5/5

  • Thanks for the kind words, and thank you for checking out the vid :D

  • FUCKING SICK TONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thanks!

  • r u using tabs

  • no all the tabs i found were for dropped B tuning, I learned it by ear in BEADG (standard 5-string tuning).

    Thanks for watching.

  • good shit man. +1

  • Thanks!

  • I actually regretted posting that after I said it, what I should have done is been a bit less harsh and maybe actually point out what he was doing wrong.

My bad, and my apologies to him.

  • I love the tone of your bass. That's my biggest problem, getting that muddy tonet hat I want. I just can't seem to get it. Any tips? Message me if so.

  • Scoop (cut) the mids and raise the highs. Let me know if that works.

    Thanks.
