  • @Irmogirl2 I like the clarinet better :P

  • Hey guys! You should check out my channel; my oboe videos are new! Tell me what you think :)

  • eh

  • You have to keep the reed wet! I used to suck mine for 5 minutes before playing. lol.

  • Comment removed

  • That was amazing!!!

  • @hopopper a few are. The G and B are the same. (without the right pinky key) I used to play the flute in the band and I switched to the oboe.

  • I play oboe!!!!! In band but I can't even hear myself and I'm not gonna lie it's a really loud insterment but yeah I have to sit next to this really annoying kid who plays his oboe sooooo frigin loud!!!!!! I wish I could enjoy band more I tryed to tell him to play softer and then he got really afended it's like wat da heck?!?!?! Do any of y'all got any tips??? I am really good at this insterment I've been playing for years now and now I don't even know if I'm making a mistake or not because I c

  • is the onoe the same notes as a flute???

  • @hopopper ummm... not really actually. i suppose some people are able to make the switch but its quite a different feel. they both take lots of air. *i played my sisters flute before i learned the oboe. retty different* OH but it also helps if u have lip muscle which u can certauinly ghain by playing the flute :)

  • 1:55 :o

  • I love playing oboe. I couldn't live without it.

  • Your sound is beautiful(:

  • I am a God at this instrument, Yet I play too many anyways.

  • I play the oboe in band class. Beginner ~ ! :P The first time I actually played it, I was like What IS this? but I've gotten used to the sound.. I prefer the lower notes! aaahaa. :3 People laugh at the sounds of my oboe though. And it discourages me sometimes.
  • @MBLAQFtw its completely ok haha once you get your embouchure right youll find that the higher notes are just as nice as the lower ones...and as for people laughing at you(my nickname when i started playing the oboe was squeaky)...well it takes true talent to play an oboe. it requires more determination i guess you could say than a trumpet. And we all know how unreliable trumpet players are haha( no offense intended!!)

  • Great

  • haha i play oboe. I'm only in seventh grade but I'm much better than the eighth grade oboes but not as good as this!!! how old are you? what grade???

  • I used to play flute but now i play oboe. I over blew. Oboe is alot better

  • hey im a flute player who overs blows and is looking in to learning oboe. anything i should do or look for?

  • Wow, so much nicer sounding than the boy at my church did!! It sounded like a duck with a sad disease as my sister puts it.

  • My oboe sounds like a dog dying.....

  • Beautiful playing. I get to start learnimg oboe next week after its fully cleaned. I hope to get that good one day.

  • oboes sound terrible XD

  • I like the way she warms the oboe up in the beginning.

  • @Abletoroll In a pervert style? :o

  • I might start oboe in high school. Thoughts? Tips?

  • @wiz10152 Start now and don't worry if you sound like a duck, a little everyday and build up your stamina, if you're tired stop :)

  • I love the oboe and the clarinet!!!!!!!!

  • The difference between clarinet and oboe is the oboe is harder to play and double reeded while clarinet has single reed while and easier to play

  • Wuts the diff. between oboe and clarinet Ö

  • @riverclanrocks123 There's actually a really big difference between the two. I play the clarinet now, but I've played the oboe a little bit for a beginning instrumental unit in my band class. Although I love the clarinet, oboe is a really pure instrument and A LOT harder to play! Due to the double reed, you have to blow really hard just to make a squeak. Also, the sound tends to be a little more nasally...and a higher pitch than the clarinet. (:

  • @spellsinger03 well you don't have to blow really hard it should be a lot easier the more you play it and keep at it.

  • wow it sounds sooo good,i just started and i sound like im stepping on a duck :(

  • in my band i play the violin, but there are no other violins and the teacher does not have have any violin pieces for songs, so i play the oboe part.

  • i wish i could sound like that when i play the oboe. :(

  • wow you play soooo well!! I have only just started playing the oboe and I would give anything to be able to play like you!!!! How long have you been playing for?

  • cool i never knew what this was

  • @TheShakaria12 apparently you don't play oboe, or you don't play any insturments. (Just Observing) or, you do play an insturment but you probably arent very good on it hmm?

  • @TheShakaria12 let's see you, shakaria. you probably look like a potato with a face. AND WITHOUt THE TALENT.

  • Beautiful and talented musician! She looks like an angel.

  • I love playing the oboe

  • I really do enjoy playing oboe, I don't necessarily sound like a duck but when I play there's a quite noticeable honking noise interruption when I play notes around the low A.

Can this be fix with more embouchure?Because I've noticed in all the reeds I've gotten from my band teacher there's a slight crack always near the middle

    TT . TT

  • I remember playing the Oboe back in middle/high school. Good times.

  • I practically taught my teacher my band teacher doesn't know how to play know but I've taught my self it's surprisingly easy but you have to much Reed in your mouth

  • Amazing!!! I play oboe and I'm the ONLY 1!!! (I'm in sixth grade:P) :D

  • my teacher says its hard, and now that im playing clarinet, i might go for oboe next year on intermedium :D

  • is oboe hard? i want to play it and so does my dad want me to.. and i could get a scholarship. ^O^

Is it hard?? i might play it in 7th

  • @MrTaxiFool the oboe can be hard to reach those high notes but the oboe is incredibly fun to play. you mus have a lot of to play songs sometimes but most likely it will be easy to play so go for you might be that one oboe player better than any oboest.

  • @MrTaxiFool

    It depends on you.

I play it, and it's actually surprisingly easy.

  • @MrTaxiFool

I play oboe and it's really great! You should try it if you want to, it's an incredibly fun instrument! (:

  • @MrTaxiFool Hey go for it!! I started playing the oboe in 7th, and 5 months later I went to a solo and ensemble competition and got a number one rating. Now I'm in 8th and I still love it. Make sure you practice practice practice though because it sure does take a lot of work. (trust me) haha

  • @bubblegumpop1011 thank you so much! <3 <3

  • People laf wen i play but im good, its the noise.

  • lol i know nothing about oboe, so to me this sounds pretty good.

  • lololol i play oboe and i just started and i never knew it could sound this amazing

  • Very nice!

  • there is this girl in my band class that each time i play the oboe she starts laughing :)

  • @29ilovemanga me too! Maybe its because you sound like a duck. I started oboe 2 months ago and no duck sound :). She laughs because it sounds puny.

  • THATs REALLY GOOD

  • good

  • I wish our band had an oboe player who didn't make us want to set all the world's oboes on fire.

  • @spigotsandcogs im ur player!

  • I'm a freshman, and I'm going to be getting private oboe lessons because I want to be in Symphonic Band next year. It's the only instrument I can make any noise at all on, and my band director said I'm a natural. Hopefully he's right!!! This is absolutely beautiful by the way!

  • roses are red, violets are blue,

    your poem makes no sense,

    tree.

  • i wish i sounded like that.....-_-

  • At the end I keep thinking when she bows she'll pass out. I feel like I will everyday in band.

  • @kkaleankless yeah i just got used to that and i`ve been playing the flute for 2 months but it still makes me dizzy

  • Yeh! This has convinced me to learn *starry eyes*

  • she is really good and i play the oboe and i love it

  • Oh to be that oboe.

  • her high school is lucky my band director wont let me play oboe

  • lol sharp is a bad word i meant harsh..abrasive...rough

  • eww your sound is so sharp

  • oh my god she is great!!!!!im going into middle school this year any preffered instruments beacause i like so many but i can only choose one.:(

  • holy shit.

  • it was brilliant players like you who had inspired me to begin playing the oboe. I have been playing for a little under 2 months now and I have truely fallen in love with it. also, it is not true you must start off with clarinet then switch over (as my band director said)..I've been playing the euphonium and trumpet for years now, and to also begin a woodwind wasn't that difficult. amazing job on this piece!

  • i hate this instrument - it's just tense and "unrelxaing"

  • @busessuck1 Music is a subtle, mood-setting communications channel used to great effect in a great many games, movies, radio plays and theatrical performances. Tense and "unrelaxing" is quite often exactly what you want.

Not even dissonance and disharmony is inherently bad. Consonance and harmony is "sweet" and "pretty" but it boring and lacking in emotion. Sometimes a tritone and some distortion is just what you need.

  • And btw when people say oboe is difficult to learn, it really isn't.

It's just like learning any other instrument. Each one has it's own requirements though.....

If you really wanna learn it, learn it.

  • English horn

  • My cousin's kids wanted to learn to play the oboe and was told they'd have to learn to play the clarinet first. They're happy to do so... but is that true?

  • @HowDareThey1970 No i dont think its true i play the Oboe and i never touched a clarinet before.

  • @HowDareThey1970

You don't have to learn clarinet first..............

Actually it would be a lot better to not learn clarinet first lol the embouchures are completely different.

I play both clarinet and oboe :o

  • @HowDareThey1970 i didn't need to. in fact, i played oboe first and THEN learned clarinet. some fingerings are similar.

  • She needs to work on making her low notes clear

  • she is great! i had been dying to play the oboe the proper way since putting on these irritating braces!

  • You people block yourselves mentally be saying you'll never be as good. She great because she must practice a lot so if you wanna play like her start getting serious

  • dang thats how it sounds wow im going to middle school at this september and im going to play the bass clarinet

  • if dicks could fart, they would sound like the obo

  • Oh my gosh, you're crazy awesome. I play oboe and like everyone else will problely never sound that good. 4 years baby! I love it so much. (:

  • HOLY CRAP!! HOW DOES SHE DO THAT?!? I'll never sound that good… (but ive only been playing for 2 years) so i havent been able to see if i can play that good yet… probably never in my life will i sound that good...

  • At the time of this recording Katherine just completed high school and had been play the oboe for five years. She is playing a Loree Oboe.

  • Amazing!! How long has Katherine been playing?? And what type of oboe does she play on?? Bravo!!

  • i play the oboe

  • I play oboe , and most of the time i hate the F(flat) part . whr you have to move your hands here and thr . :( ,

  • I am about to start to learn how to play oboe and that convinced me to! I was going to play alto saxophone but this convinced me to play oboe. Thank you

  • you are very good. i play the oboe my self. and i have been playing for 4 years now. and yes. it is a very hard instrument. but it is soooooo much fun to play. and if u can play it well, u can sound amazing. this girl is amazing. i love it:)

  • @losslife96 I'm an oboe teacher in Georgia and I have several young students (youngest is nine) playing the oboe quite well. Don't listen to people who say you're too young or too inexperienced to play oboe or bassoon for that matter. :)

  • i can never hit that high on my oboe.

  • i can never hit that high on my oboe

  • I play Clarinet, and may be moved to Oboe. :D

  • Este é um instrumento que as pessoa desvalorizam, por não conhecerem, mas é muitolindo,e esta manina toca muito bem.

  • I looooove the oboe! Considering I play it. For two years now. And I'm only in the 6th grade!!!! If u wanna play oboe and think u can do it GO FOR IT!!!!

  • @losslife96 i play both, and the flute is a whole lot eaisier, but the oboe, if you can play it, sounds better and is more rewarding in my opinion.

  • Bravo, young lady... wow.

  • That is beautiful. Bravo, well done! :)

  • i play the oboe and i hav 2 say this girl is realy good especialy since tht is her own reed those r hard 2 make! i just starting doing tht and my first was a total fail!!!!

  • @animallov3rgurl and how long do i have to practise until it sounds ok? (i mean, on the flute you only need a relative short time to get a good tone, but for example on the clarinet it's such a long time to practise until it sounds "clear") thanks for your answer by the way ;)

  • i think about learning to play the oboe. i already play the flute. is it difficult to learn?

  • @oscarlovesher it's an easy transition, the fingerings are about the same. :]

  • i like the way she licks her reed.

  • @LamboKid69 swab it

  • @teamboobooseth1 Cheers, my shaft is really soggy.

  • I have spit in the shaft of my oboe, any advice on how to clean it, I'm a noob in the Oboe-ing world.

  • @SuperGirlfriend123 yeah i'm the best and the only in my band. And sound like a duck.

  • good, i play the clarinet

  • Wow, that vibrado is impressive... This girl just inspired me to practice more...

  • @animorphs135 I KNOW. I PLAY THE OBOE AND SOUND LIKE A DUCK

  • @teamboobooseth1 yea so do i, i mean i am the best oboe player in my band but tht doesn't mean tht i sound good! :)

  • she is freakin' GOOD!!!!!!!!!!

  • i didnt say they were easy i said that they sound bad when played by beginners.

  • I remember playing this when I was in the 8th grade! She's a decent player. With a little more refinement of her technique and cleaning up her fingers on the runs she has some potential.

  • @msuoboe1 With all due respect, I think she is a fantastic player. Sure, she COULD improve, but she doesn't need to make any major changes in the way she plays. I'd say even at this level, the level of ability she has NOW, she had potential a long time ago and is doing a fine job of displaying it.

  • Katherine makes her own reeds, this is a requirement of a professional obist.

  • @danroth31 Just like how every Jedi must craft their own lightsabre ... haha in all seriousness, she is very good!

  • What brand of reed is she using??:0

  • @theJADEleee Professional oboists make their own reeds.

  • @MegaSillylily Oboe are regarded as one of the most difficult instruments to play. I have been playing a while and am now studying at a conservatoire and I have never once found it easy! I don't think I ever will.

You have a wonderful sound and your vibrato is fantastic! Well done :)

  • r oboes hard 2 play

  • @MegaSillylily they are at first but they get easier

  • @morganfawnie like.... whens "they get easier" like after a year?!

  • marvelous!

  • u are so good at blowing through the oboe. I find it soo hard.

  • damn. the oboe normally sounds terrible unless played by a master of the instrument. a beginner and i sounds like a nasal out of tune clarinet.

  • @dragonetti23 No it doesnt... Each oboe player has their own special sound! Oboe is a hard instrument to play. There is no definite sound . it depends on whether u noe how to hear or not

  • OBOE LOL

  • oboe rocks!!!! really nice by the way :)

  • I can't tell which prettier, the girl, or the sound?

  • @TheSuperawesomekid the sound

  • @euassustovoce you must be gay

  • @TheSuperawesomekid the girl

  • sounds great! i play oboe too.

  • what a hell of a shawm. atleast thats what they used back in the days

  • haha the first time i saw an oboe I were at an honor band and we dont have an oboe in our band so everyone from my band was like "Look a piccolo clarinet! then our band director walks in and says "oh i forgot you guys havent ever seen an oboe before!" We felt dumb

  • i am so jelouse of you I wish i could play like that

  • Boston boys, the bassoon has no emotion! It just goes du duh, the oboe has melody and emotion. If you payed attention to her playing, you would understand that.

  • @juniorsrosie Tell that to Stravinsky.

  • that was AMAZING.... I play the oboe and it sounds more like a dying cow :P

  • The oboes for fags. If you want to play an unusual instrument play the bassoon

  • @theboltonboys don't be jealous that you don't have the guts to take up oboe and it is not as easy as it looks.

  • What type of reeds do you use? I have played oboe for 2 years and my band director says I sound terrible

  • @juniorsrosie Its called band teachers always suck cause they don't anything about the oboe. My advice talk to a profesional or get a private oboe teacher. Thats what i did and now i sound a lot better

  • the sound is amazing!

  • I play the flute and eventually will learn to play oboe.

  • I play the flute and will learn the oboe :)

  • Wow I could never get mine to sound as pretty as that(: goood jobbb

  • beautiful! i know its not easy!

  • i play oboe.I MADE IT TO NYSSMA!!!!!!!! IM GOING IN MAY! :)

  • @StarrChorusgirl123 Hey, congrats! I've only recently started learning oboe; I know how difficult it can be! Good luck! :)

  • i play the clarinet

  • @ClarinetChick18 REALLY? i wood never of guessed

  • @ClarinetChick18

    me tooo :DD

  • what instrument will u all recommend if i joined symphonic band?

  • @TheKoreangirl123 it really depends on how much time you are ready to invest in it, and how naturally musical you are. The oboe and bassoon, because of the double reed, and the over all difficulty of the fingerings, I'd say are the hardest instruments. I've been playing the oboe for 8 years, and it pays off because the oboe gets a lot of solos, and there usually aren't a lot of oboes in an orchestra. Cl
