some of these questions makes one wonder if these are drop D thumpers and or C F G or E A B open only guitar player wannabes .. no concept of improvisation or Jazz, only rote memory parrots of tired old over played riffs (or actually bad attempts at the their original guitar god runs) seems so lame and kinda sad. wonder what their IQ's are anyways.
I thought your playing was clean and tight, very Joe Pass, great feel for single note lines, I'd like to hear you intertwine those neat little riffs with bigger chord voicings, à la Lenny Breau, I'm sure you are familiar with his work...keep up the good work!
you're awesome, but let yourself go. You're way too stuck on the method and structure, what sets apart players is their ability to convey feeling and capture the soul; i get that sometimes at a jazz club, but i haven't yet from you. You're very knowledgable, it shows. Try something a little looser perhaps more emotional, see how it sounds. Just some advice, take it or leave it.
depends a lot on your technique, but you can do what you can with your gear by turning your mids high and your treb and bass lower on your amp. also, lower your tone knob a bit on your guitar and set it to the neck pickup.
I have done so for years - experimenting with gear. I even showed Mr Howard Roberts himself(co-founder of GIT)my Ibanez Howard Roberts fake guitar which didn´t amused him very much. So you are absolutely right in saying it´s not a matter of gear alone but of skill and phrasing.Perhaps we as guitarists should listen more to saxophone-players and less to the"Johnny-Speedfingers".Why is G.Benson singing along with his solos?:)I have never enjoyed a guitar-videos so much. Thanx Mr Otten.
anybody that has posted negative comments obviously has 2 problems:
1: they do not understand that music is an individual pursuit, its not like clothing, we do not play music to impress others and therefore do not care for your comments
2: they obviously cannot play jazz as anybody that can understands that it is the most liberating music known to man
People don't undestand how good of a musician you are. Incredible job...keep up the good work. I agree with TheTravelingThumb, thats definitely not musical diarrhea.
Really stunning, such a soothing sound, without ever becoming bland or uninteresting. The sort of playing I aspire to, without a great deal of hope!!!!
notes are for noobs? you are retarded, how do you expect to sight read things? are you supposed to hear it once then remember it and play it? you NEED to know how to read music
You can hear that this musician is actually thinking about what to say through his instrument. Unlike some guitarists who play musical diarrhea, it's refreshing to hear style with class AND economy.
i disagree. you say that its not creative, but i think the opposite. He's using a very classic jazz tone that sounds sweet, and because its not so intrusive you dont get distracted by it and you concentrate on the playing...
i love your sound aaaaa that's wonderfull.. ive just seen a thousand video of rocksolo....:/ always the same sound same thecnik same way pfffff thecnicaly good but no imagination. your we c your mouth move with yours note...the true jazz
you know Sylvain luc ? they are video on youtube.. i think he's one of the best guitarjazzplayer ;)

There is a guy in the background that is actually doing the playing.
OK OK It's a joke. I know it's a mirror.
Love the way this guy (and the guy in the mirror) plays.

Good inspiration for practice.

one question- how do you get that distinct jazz guitar sound on the amp
johnzie 5 years ago
depends a lot on your technique, but you can do what you can with your gear by turning your mids high and your treb and bass lower on your amp. also, lower your tone knob a bit on your guitar and set it to the neck pickup.
